Missing Tranmere v Wimbledon? Do the bookies know more than the clubs?

Got to be hoping for the win at home to Accrington. Fortunate yesterday but we're now five including the League cup unbeaten, definitely a more solid team than last season so far.

First game of the season away for me at Donny, using Sheffield as a base. I predict many beers and a very close game between two of the early pacesetters.

God only knows what sort of side we'll put out given our injuries. Picked up another yesterday and a suspension to leave us with one available centre back. Our attacking options should be boosted though with the return of Andrews, plus Dack made the bench yesterday.

Keepmoat is a happy hunting ground for me, two visits and two Gills wins, so here's to a third on the bounce.

9/2 on Grimsby seems extraordinary. I'd say they have a better chance than that with Dunkley now out which now makes 3 centre backs missing. Possibly 2, Grimes might be back but he's not kicked a ball since last season. Might see Williams alongside Naylor which is slightly worrying.
That said I think it's kind of important we don't lose as 5 points from the first 5 games would signal a pretty poor start.

Have to be targeting a win against Morecambe. I know them being bottom with no points and no goals is deceptive as they are clearly not a woeful side, but our home record is shocking and we have to put an end to it right here. If we don't that Bromley win will be forgotten about the fans will vent their anger.

Even seeing a goal would be a start after 6 home games without one. Fingers crossed we can scrap out a result. Going for a 2-1 win.

Feels like another game ‘we should be winning’ with relatively little fuss if we want to be a team competing at the top, Accy have conceded 14 goals in 5 games so no excuses with our attacking players. Also looking at the next two after that - Bromley away (shudders) and Gillingham look tough so I’d love a 2-0 please Stuart

(we all know it’ll be something daft like 4-4)

Ideally could do with getting some sort of result against Newport just to kickstart things a bit for us. Don’t know too much about their team but clearly started well and seemingly looking to follow the Swansea model so will expect them to try and be possession based. Would like to see we have developed some semblance of a plan or cohesion to our play as at the moment we are either relying on a moment of inspiration or a set piece to score.

Think we’ll draw at Salford and beat Walsall at home.

I've got a feeling we'll get our first league defeat of the season at Donny to be honest, they're the team to beat for me. No Ehmer is a worry, he's normally pretty good at handling the experienced, wily forwards in this league and Sharp may be too clever for Ogie and McKenzie on the day, he clearly still has plenty to offer. In a physical battle I'd back Ogie any day but he does have the tendancy to switch off occasionally and that could be a problem. So I don't see us keeping a clean sheet in this one meaning we'll need to score a couple to win - we aren't properly firing at the top end although getting there, interesting to see who gets the nod up front after a decent debut from Wyllie yesterday and a strong cameo from Andrews. Personally I'd stay with the same.

Just need to hope for no further injury problems from the pisspot trophy game in the week really, currently on the treatment table are Turner, Masterson, Coleman, Dieng, Rowe, Nevitt and Hawkins, plus Ehmer suspended and Euan Williams on International Duty. Dack hasn't had a minute of action yet either so won't be anywhere near up to speed. To be doing as well as we're doing with that list is remarkable.

At the moment I'm veering towards 2-0 Donny.

Horrible time to be heading to Bradford, who will be licking their lips at the prospect of facing us whilst we are in managerial limbo. Hoping to see a change to our system, and would love to see us using a couple of our more forward thinking midfielders (which limits us to Sadi and Biggins) given a go. Cameron Harper and Dylan Mcgeouch should be in contention, but we're still without Robson, Guy, Charters, and Kelly.

We're not going to sellout but there should still be 2,000 blues in attendance for this one, hopefully getting right behind the side no matter what.

Think this comes at the wrong time, and fully expect to be taking as much of a beating on twitter as we're likely to on the pitch. It'll likely be a couple of weeks until we start to improve.

3-1 Bradford.

Lewis and Wyke will have their best games of the season on Saturday. I'm hoping we get something but I still feel a bit naff after that Grimsby performance. Hope Baldwin is okay to feature, Sarcevic too. Probably a 1-1 draw. Nothing for either set of fans to get overly excited about, which seems the norm from our past encounters.

Another away game so another loss. Seems to have been the way for us for a while. Absolutely no idea how Chesterfield play. I hear they’re possession based but don’t imagine they’re speedsters like Notts County because that’s what I worry about. Another game closer for Thompson to come back and might see the introduction of Obikwu and Luker to the squad - will at least improve our bench regardless.

3-1 to Chesterfield.

MK will be a good test for us to see if we are as good as we have looked so far barring Tranmere where we still deserved something fancy a draw here just hope we dont pick up anymore injuries in the pizza cup against blues on tuesday.

I fancy us to win at Chesterfield based purely on the fact that we’ve played at their new ground 3 times and won the lot by an aggregate of 9-2.
There are some grounds that you just always seem to play well at so I fancy this one.

Just don't fancy us at all at the moment. Feel like we're in a rut already, don't have any idea of our best team, have no real style of play and just looked like strangers. Newport have started well and it's a horrible place to go.

Just the matter of El Plastico to get through today... we've not been good at all under Williamson when on Sky so I'm not overly confident despite being certain we have a better team.

A draw would make our record this season equal to 07/08 before then going on a 2 month winning run so I'd take that all day long (with the proviso that history repeats itself)

Yeah Newport away is not the game you want when you’re out of form, that’s one of them grounds that’s the total opposite to what I just posted about Chesterfield away, always play absolutely abysmal there.

The Spa Derby on Saturday.

God knows what to expect to be honest. At times we've looked decent, but more often we've looked way off the pace. A home win is required, but I have a bad feeling at the moment.

As much as I hate the BSM Trophy, we really could do with a win against Newport tomorrow to get some confidence into the team

I was just thinking that yesterday about our dreadful home record against you lot since we moved into the new stadium. Remember our 1-3 defeat to you lot on the opening day of the doomed 2017/18 season like it was yesterday, a season we were tipped to do well and bounce straight back into league 1… haha yeah went well that.

The 1-4 defeat was in Cooks first season back, the year you went up from the NL, when he’d just took over and had a group of James Rowe players that really could not play his way and you boys rocked up & bullied us. Remember a Holohan rocket into the top corner which I was right behind, what a goal.

What I would say is that the 3 times you’ve played us at our place, we’ve had pretty shite teams so that’s probably played a part in it. Looking back though it’s really surprised me that we’ve only played eachother in two league games at our place since we moved stadiums which was back in 2010!!

Yeah I left that 3-1 game thinking that we would both be top 7 that season, I had no idea that the reason we both created so many chances that day was because we were both absolutely shit.

Should be looking to win this really to make it a fantastic start. Hoping Palmer might be fit for a first start, although controlling midfield is less of a problem at home on our massive pitch I think. Believe Jones and Jatta have both turned down international call-ups, which is a bonus.

We never do well home or away against Newport with just the one win since they returned to the EFL.

Think we will lose this by the odd goal as we are still very disjointed and our defensive issues need addressing.

If Moore does what any Vale fan can see and sets us up 4-2-3-1 with Croasdale and Byers in the middle and our lack of pace at the back covered by being a flat back 4 we might do better than expected. Big IF though.

We have had a much better start to the season than any of us expected, we were unlucky to loose at Cheltenham then followed that with two well deserved wins against Donny and Accrington then a backs to the wall fighting win at Morecambe, who by the way are a lot better than their position reflects, but we are under no illusion that we have to raise our game to a whole different level against port vale we bookmarked this as one of the toughest games of the season and i don't expect it to be any less, but playing at home and the way Jardim has us playing should hopefully be enougth to get us over the line having said that i would'nt be disappointed with a draw.

This is like Luke Molyneaux tweeting about Vale Park being a difficult place to go...

We've won once in 2024 at VP and 4 times full stop so would be a bit of an illusion to think it will be one of your toughest games at the minute!
