There are multiple incongruities in this photo. Not only the contrast between the solemnity of the occasion and the wide-eyed inane look of the mascot, but (allowing for anthropomorphisation) cod in their natural state always look pretty solemn to me.

If we're on tinpot facilities, I present you the male toilet in the Warwick Road End, Brunton Park

I don't know who took the photo, not me though, it's a brave man who wanders into the toilets with a camera (although presumably the photo was taken when the toilets weren't in use)

As they have been described. The only place in the football league where you have have a piss and a shower at the same time.

Stalybridge Celtic's toilet is a bit like that, only smaller. My son wouldn't piss in it; "It's just a WALL dad". Kids today, don't know they're born.

Greeslee are about 2 or 3 miles from Burton and used to be our local rivals at one time, they even won the Southern league Premier division when they were Gresley Rovers but didn't get promoted as the ground didn't meet Conference standards ! Gradually went down hill and then bust. Reformed now and doing very well. Its just bitter rival between Staffordshire Burton and Greeslee South Derbyshire still to this day even though we are worlds apart football wise.

Shrewsbury and Chesterfield's old grounds also had open toilets. The former's toilets was basically drain pipe stuck down and I'm pretty sure you could stand 'in' the latter's toilets and still watch the game.

Brunton Park's are luxury compared to what they were.

Yep, you could stand in the bogs at Chesterfield and watch the game - I went to our last game at Saltergate as I was at uni in Sheffield at the time...fond memories.

Reminds me of Holker Street. Been there once in the home end and they must be the coldest bogs in the world, though there was an element of heating in there, i.e. a steaming hot turd someone had just left on the floor. Fucking rancid.

Was at Blyth Spartans game with the Albion in the 70's at a 1st round FA Cup tie, the game was just a big ruck from the minute I got off the coach, Newcastle nutters in abundance, Before we even got into the 1st pub a table came flying out of the window. The game was held up for 20 minutes during the 1st half due to fighting on the terraces spilling over onto the pitch. Having survived I ventured into the toilets 2nd half to find supporters unconscious in the urinals who had unfortunately been relieved upon. Was just glad to get out of there before I suffered the same fate. Not sure that's tinpot but definitely a frightening experience !

Its hard to explain, it was every man for himself, scarf hidden under my donkey jacket to avoid getting a pummelling, no stewards, police struggling to control events, these were Albion fans lying there, I was much younger then and although not proud to say it, self preservation won the day. It was an awful situation to be in. Saw virtually nothing of the game as it was pretty much duck and weave all afternoon but know we lost 2-1.
We drew them at home later that season in FA Trophy and a baying mob were waiting for them, thankfully they only bought about 20 fans who the police kept well segregated. Would not ever want to go back to those times.

Not got much more to say on this subject as its not really on thread, It was just how things were back then, I can remember a lot of sorry incidents from those times, suffering at the hands of Sheff Wed hooligans at Mexborough and Worksop, Chelsea at Wycombe, Man Utd at Hyde and Bridgewater, Bishop Auckland, Bridgewater Town and Hereford at the old Eton Park. Other fans though suffered when Derby fans attacked them on many occasions whilst following us.
Nowadays we have zero problems from our supporters but did have some ugly scenes when Grimsby Town were relegated out of the football league at the Pirelli stadium.
Its nice to feel safe when you go to football and can enjoy the game, long may that continue !

Did the other hooligans expect that Derby's firm were among the Burton away fans? I know Derby were pretty infamous back then. I suppose most of these fellows had police looking out for them at the top-flight games their own teams were playing in.

Stafford will always epitomise tinpot for me for a few different reasons, but that is one.

We played them in the 4th Q. Round of the FA Cup, and had them the week after in the league, both at their ground.

After the first match, our supporters complained about the toilet having no roof. When we went back, they had addressed the issue.

By laying (completely loose) a sheet of that curvy corrugated metal on top of it

For those interested the other tinpot things were that the view was obstructed by four different things (camera gantry, floodlights, roof posts & segregation fencing) and we spent a good ten minutes pre-match listening to a Stafford fan go to great length to explain how bad the Conference is and how they'd rather be two or three divisions lower so they could play their ''local rival'' again.

No idea who that rival was, but they've got their wish. If it was Gresley Rovers then that bloke must be cock-a-hoop.

To be fair, it's more the way it was done. If you've not seen that toilet block, it's about the size of two portaloos, and they had laid a whole panel of metal on top! Looked utterly daft!

Not sure it's really at a full tinpot level, but I went to watch us at Barnet about 7 years ago. Got there earlier than normal so got in the ground as soon as the turnstiles opened at 2pm. Went to get a coffee but was told I had to go back at 2.30pm when the water would be hot.
