They've went to the trouble of creating this article, to explain their use of the these stats.

To be fair, no news corporation can compete with twitter journos. They can announce 20 seconds and have absolutely no accountability if they're wrong. These people used to inform sky etc and now they're just informing the public direct.

You also have to remember that there is probably far more people that get their news from SSN than twitter so to them SSN is quickest. Just because we use twitter and other internet sites, doesn't mean everybody or even the majority do.

I think you have to know who and who not to believe really in terms of transfers. i.e. a proper journo who works for a broadsheet is going to be infinitely more reliable than FootyAgent_123.
