If you call training 3 evenings a week part time, then Dover are too

Our manager has today said that our budget will be dwarfed by many clubs in this league, he also said tranmere have 34 pros on their books and we will start the season with 18. Not sure how true that is but there you go
Certainly more than 18 on our books, not sure if as many as 34. When squads were listed on the back of the programme, can certainly remember some sides like Dagenham having more than us.

Tranmere had the biggest squad by far. 2nd biggest budget as well. They had to loan connor jennings out to get him games as he couldn't even get in the matchday squad. Same as Louis Almond. They had an excellent squad and will probably go for a 30+ number again

Pretty sure Sutton Utd and Solihull Moors are still part-time too.

You don't have that many. It's classic patter from a manager of a bankrolled club. Try and push off their own expectations by arguing someone else has more.

"16 James
He played for Dorchester Reserves last season
Had offers from league and non league clubs but Fylde scholarship blew them out of the water tbh"

Come across this on Facebook last night, the guy who posted moved up from Bournemouth because Fylde BLEW EVERYBODY OUT OF THE WATER with their offer for a 16 year old.

Lowest budget in the league.

We train three mornings a week and the players are on 44 week contracts.

Excuse my ignorance. I've never heard of a 44 week contract. Does that mean they are unpaid when the season ends? Is that common?

Pretty much.

I don't know which clubs are 44 and which are 52 myself, read somewhere that Aldershot are moving from 44 to 52 this summer though.

Yes and yes.

Proper PT teams generally run with 44 week contracts, although I suspect if they have any on two year deals then they'd get paid through the summer. We, as a FT Club, dropped down to 10 month contracts for a season (I think it was our second season down here).

Rumours on this thread that Daggers had a huge squad and budget are well wide of the mark. Budget was around £700k which was £500k less for what we had in league two. The huge squad on programmes was due the amount of loan players and youth team we had to play or name on bench due to injuries. We had 22 pro's looking at our squad list from last season many of which were signed from the likes of Enfield. We don't pay big wages to anyone. Top earners around £30k a year.

After last night at prenton park we have a new left winger on the books a bit aging however he seems a real team player content on being the person to supply the ammunition to help everyone else achieve their potential in the team.

Hopefully he will sign a 5 year contract on june 8th .

I believe we do 44 week contracts also.

The lack of information from Plainmoor is, once again, rather disturbing.

We can field a 4 a side squad currently, with only Nathan Ashmore, Jack Powell, Andy Drury and Darren McQueen already signed on for next season.

McMahon is sitting down with the rest this week and next apparently. I'd expect the majority to be kept, with only Charlie Sheringham, Reiss Greenidge, Mark Phillips, and maybe Sean Shields to be released. Time will tell though!

We'll probably only need to sign 4 or 5 players.

700k is still a big budget in this league. Especially when you only get a little over 1k through the gate. Chester get twice that and probably operate on half that budget. (Not that gate receipts matter that much to a number of teams but it's an indication of how much a club can operate in if that's their main income stream).

Indeed, the suggestion above that £700k wasn't a big budget did leave me a little baffled.

We can be used as a bit of a benchmark, our budget last season was just about half that, at best.

apparently Dover fans shouldn't be worried as the chairman's son said on our forum this morning
"We will be stronger this season, no doubt about it! "

You can easily name 8-9 teams that had a budget bigger than ours last season. If any clubs have smaller budgets then us and get double out attendances they should be embarassed. Before you mention parachute payments it is all being used to pay off the council loan we got for that shiny stand you all pay £21 to sit in.

One thing that gets me is how come in non league, everyone seems to know one another's budget?

Not sure any fans in L2 knows what each other's budgets are.

Nobody knows. They just think they do.

I believe you can see clubs accounts for the past year online, but that's not just players wages. Takes into account sign on fees, management, etc.

Maybe I'm thick but I can't understand how fans here just seemingly make a calculation of each other's budgets and it's not really based on anything. I've occasionally visited this board for several seasons and it's always been the same.

Is there an equation to follow like average crowd x pies sold x squad size divided by toilets rolls used per match day with the square root of the club's floodlights diameter, or something along those lines.

There's a lot of adapting to do getting relegated down here, that's for sure.

Folk dont. They are just doing an educated guess
Except in Gatehead's case, whose chairman admitted his club would need gates of 3000 to break even on the money he chucks in every year-they get about 900. :bdick:

Or Eastleigh, who let everyone in for free 4 or 5 times a season because their chairman chucks in millions and they don't need the gate money. Do the math.

Or Forest Green, whose accounts showed the chairman was bunging them over £3,000,000 year after year after year (and they were still shit). :£:£:£

How is it embarrassing to live within your means? We're 100% fan owned and get 2,000 crowds and more or less break even every year, allowing a £325k budget. Simple as that.

Where does all your money magically come from then?
