Possibly too early to say, but getting Hunt and Towler locked into season long deals would be good. Would be great if we can get that sorted before the Jan window opens up too. We are indeed light up top. We all know we need that elusive #9 coming in, but additionally we should be seriously looking at cutting our losses on Scannell for me. Can't have both him and Grant taking up wages if neither of them are gonna kick a ball.
Scannell is back in full training tomorrow, this is really last chance saloon but a fully fit Sean Scannell is an awful prospect for every defender in this division IMO

As long as there’s no disaster, I think we’ll be comfortably making the playoffs, though I worry about our strength in depth, especially upfront. January will also be a very interesting time as Wrexham (who should make the playoffs regardless of manager) will obviously strengthen and you can’t see Stockport and Chesterfield hanging around (obviously no window for them). Our increased attendances might give us a little more cash to spend but that’s usually the time of year when Paul Hurst teams come unstuck. It happened to us multiple times and he did it at Shrewsbury too.

Getting early points on the board can’t be complained about though and we’re ahead of the curve in playing the top teams, need to be putting the shitter teams to the sword this time.
Yep, said it multiple times, Hurst shits his pants every January and it’s a huge issue. You could say it even happened last season which is harsh but our January effectively relegated us last season.

The one January window he got right we went up, but even then we were incredibly poor and limped into the play-offs.

Hats off to him so far though, couldn’t be happier with the start and I think the squad is a very good one.

Our January relegated us? Wow.
So that fraud Holloway, who was in it for a windfall and signed a load of players on long contracts without seeing them play and the Club (and Holloway) having one pre season game, and having an owner who was relying on covid stopping the season so did everything on the cheap, basically were only a small part of the reason we got relegated?
Where as Hurst was given a month to try and get as many players as he could to replace the complete dross we had, probably had plenty turn him down due the club being a public shit show with a chairman who was outed in the press for trying to get investment from a convicted fraudster, with bad eggs in the club e.g. Danny Rose.

We were putting a run together before the season run out on us, but it was Hurst that got us relegated. It wasn’t even his team, he had to try and get anyone who said yes.

He has now had a full pre season to get the players he wants with a supportive ownership and look where we are.

Mainly Hursts fault for us going down? Do me a favour. It’s more than harsh, it ridiculous. That is of course imho

I like the name Waters; my appellation is not just because I lived in Limerick, and was the city's premier wicket-keeper/ batsman of outstanding mediocrity for a short while, but also a reference to the magnificent Joe's birthplace. Wouldn't it be great to have a centre forward named Waters...

Back in training tomorrow? He'll be back out for a few weeks by the time PH does his pre-match press conference in that case. Can't agree with your awful prospect for every defender opinion. Perhaps if the year was 2015 I'd be inclined to agree. I said it on the day he signed that was he a shite signing and got red crossed to fuck on The Fishy, but I've been proven right.

I'd bet very good money that Hurst's previous January recruitment at Town was severely hamstrung by Fenty. It was quite often a case of one out/one in back then if I seem to remember rightly, which essentially means you're looking at a busy deadline day unless you get lucky. Hopefully he'll be afforded the luxury of not having to operate within a chain of transfers this year under JS and AP.

In terms of the tough start, best way I can put it is that apart from last night, every result that we've had would be deemed a 'decent' result in isolation (maybe not Southend given there other results). It doesn't look great when all put together, and it only means something if we pick up the 'expected' results going forward.

Sounded rough last night, but from what I heard and can gather, the third goal was a last min breakaway and there was every chance of us nicking an (undeserved) point in the last 10 mins. Not justifiable, but not meritting the hysteria seen on RP and Facebook.

We are not far off, we just need the right midfield setup, once that clicks it will solve our other 'issues' (deep defence, disappointing attack support). We will improve as we gel and move forward, but so will everyone else.....We just need to improve more than they do.

We will improve as we gel and move forward,

There's absolutely no guarantee of this yet every single Wrexham fan carries on this delusion. You're a couple of injuries (having no realistic way to replace players) away from your season being over. That's just as likely as this miraculous gelling.

I don't just mean Wrexham though, as I said in the post, it is logical that any teams will improve with players having more time together.

Trust me, we are fully aware of how injuries can sink us, this exact thing happened to us after the January window closed last season, it isn't fair, but we have to deal with it....for what it's worth, we have already had seven of our expected starting XI miss time with injury this season.

Woah who said it was mainly Hursts fault we went down? It might’ve sounded like that in your head but that wasn’t what I said was it?

I’m talking about the results in January, Stevenage, Southend, Port Vale, Scunny. Those set of results completely buried us, the recruitment of Holloway etc was obviously the cause of the relegation, nobody disputes that.

People slate Scannell but he played 11 times last season and played very well in the majority of those games. Is he a liability to the wage bill? Yes. Is he a good player when he is fit. Absolutely yes.

I think one ‘issue’ Wrexham may have is players/fans of other clubs will see you as a massive scalp and raise their games accordingly. Would 6k+ mad codheads have turned up last night for most other clubs in this league and created a Galatasaray-style atmos in Cleethorpes? Debateable.

It happened to us when we had a (bogus) big money takeover and Sven etc, all kind of tinpotters turned up and played like it was their cup final. A couple (Morecambe on Sol Campbell’s debut, with half the town there, and Accy) even beat us, celebrating like they had won the Champions League, as was their right. At one point around Christmas we were down in 7th or 8th, about 14 points behind Rochdale. But then Steve Cotterill arrived and managed to get our side of L2 galaticos playing as a team and we ultimately won the league.
Hmm, GalataGrimsby, I quite like that, perhaps we should cultivate...

Of those 11 games though, 6 of them clocked in at around the 30mins or under mark. The only 1 of his 3 full matches I saw was when Exeter spanked us at BP and he was pretty useless. Fair enough if you've seen something I haven't, but I've haven't. I hope you're right, of course. If he starts playing well, I'll definitely hold my hands up and say I've called it wrong.
Grimatasaray, surely?

I wouldn't bother he seems to have some sort of issue with us.
They all do, not seen it with any other club. Well you could say Barrow but really that's just one obsessed fan.

Like most I'm happy to leave it with they definitely deserved to win and are the bestest team ever.

Hmmmm...
Evil Danny Wright.

We can all clearly see how important this game is to Grimsby. Looks like they all believe this is the decider. People fighting to get seats. Huge pressure on that set of players tomorrow.

You'd fancy them to go all the way after turning us over 1-0 from a set piece.

Incredible amount of Wrexham related threads on that Fishy forum. Following our every move.

Even had a dedicated one for our game against Notts

So far today we've had Danny Wright, the Torquay keeper and now Challinor all classed as pure EVIL by Grimsby fans. Emotional lot.

Add him to the Grimsby HATE LIST.

He’s got a lot of work to do to catch up to Danny Wright, Challinor and the Torquay goalie from the playoff final.

Nobody will ever forget The Push Of Edgeley Park.

Reaction on here will be incredible if they beat us.

Grimsby fans are so obsessed with us, he says checking The Fishy for the 11th time that day and clocking up Grimsby content in about 30% of his posts on here since we came down.

The BEEF this time round is getting mean, I agree. I think this division actually needs a Crawley/Fleetwood/Mansfield, as in like a tinpot club spending way above their means as opposed to a proper club. Either that or it's the Stockport lot that are somehow causing all this, because they weren't really around last time we were down here.

I'm blaming Chesterfield personally.

There's definitely a Wrexham and Stockport Alliance whereas Grimsby and Chesterfield are more aligned. All out BEEF war and Notts County are the refs.

I tell you why Grimsby and Chesterfield are more aligned, it's because they are proper football clubs unlike true non league dross like Wrexham and Stockport.

If you've been down here 10 years plus or in the league below and basically a phoenix club you are proper tinpot non league detritus.

I used to hate Grimsby with a passion but it's a travesty they and Chesterfield (County and Southend also) are playing at this level. Grimsby might be a bunch of twats but they are proper fans and I respect that.
