Today’s attendances, courtesy of @thomasfeheny:

Notts County 6,934
Southend United 5,678
Chesterfield 5,356
Grimsby Town 5,034
Woking 3,068
Eastleigh 2,572
Yeovil Town 2,024
Dag & Red 1,423
Solihull Moors 1,271
Maidenhead United 1,060
*No Boreham Wood figure

The Woking figure is big!
Basically similar to League 2 minus Bradfud - with Maidenhead equivalent to Harrogate or the Ex MUFC toy team.

Stockport County.
We had 5,265 last week.

Some great attendances from the ex NL brothers.

Grimsby sound like they're bringing a great following Tuesday Night so could be a decent attendance.

Nor do i
But I didn’t think the home team were that much tbh

We looked good first half then just put everyone behind the ball in the second when we didn't need to which made for a difficult watch.

Christ, if you thought we looked unfit then god knows what you made of Torquay.

I think I rate Torquay higher than a lot of people to be honest. Thought they were in for a proper transitional season, but they look to have replaced well and were much the same as they were last season. Today reminded me a lot of the play-off game against Chesterfield, just without the last minute winner.

Monday will be interesting. Dunno why, but I can see a chaotic 2-2 draw or something along those lines.

We’re going to see a lot this season of what both Torquay did before the sending off(high press) and what they did after(9/10 players behind the ball) Admittedly we did create a couple of good chances early on and ‘earned‘ the sending off, but generally I think we struggled against both those tactics, and that’s a bit of a worry. It could well be that we do better away from home.

I don’t think Torquay will be top 7 this season.

Don’t agree with this, we lack strength in depth in some areas and look vulnerable on set plays. It is however great to see us playing some really nice football it is a real pleasure to watch after years of dross. Play off still for me.

Bromley we’re poor, but it was only their first outing and it showed in their legs at the end.

Barnet, Wealdstone, kings Lynn and Weymouth next four up.
No reason why we can’t if we get a bit of luck with injuries. The midfielders can all break the lines and we have 2 genuine goal scorers up front.

Game today was won off the bench by having the option of Weston inswinging from the right. We never had them options last season.

Inevitably we will add to the squad throughout the season. Consider we added Vilhete, Sagaf and Khan midway through last season.

I’d take play offs of course but we’ve made 2 sides who will be up there look very ordinary. We look a ‘team’, very cohesive and them sort of sides tend to go well down here.

We will see over the coming months if we have that grittiness needed when we’re not on our game.

I agree they’re the tactics we’ll see a lot of, and today there were signs both that we have ways of dealing with it and that there’s still plenty to work on. Johnson will always have his team doing both of those things better than most managers will in this league as well.

Aldershot (and Boreham Wood, apparently )
We're 1 or 2 players away from being a good side.
We’re 1̶0̶ 1 or 2 away also.
Actually we’re just not good enough for this league. Couldn’t go today, but several mates have said it was a repeat of last week- adequate defence, weak unimaginative midfield, powder puff attack. Same old, usual league position.

Read your own forum, there are enough Spireites on there who have said the exact same things as we have.

Based off those first two games, if we can get a decent striker in, we’ll start picking up points.
Fine you crack on youth, definitely be keeping an eye on the Wealdstone promotion juggernaut.

I think youre both suffering from Aldershot syndrome. They were all giving it large about how they werent that far away blah de blah after comfortably losing to a far superior Chesterfield side.
So which Aldershot fans were ‘giving it large’ as I don’t recall any of them doing that.

It's fucking grim the amount of timewasting that goes on in this league. I dread to think how much time the ball is actually in play.

We were at it a bit that last 20 tonight, so I'm not pinpointing a certain team. Every fucker does it.
Yep our first game back here today and we had it from the first minute from Weymouth with their keeper being the worst for it but then bizarrely after 75 minutes he was suddenly in a rush. :bg:

Fairly comfortable win for us, thought we’re started well but second half was a bit of a non event after we lost Khan.
We’ve had a fairly low key start and think we will need to up our game when we play better sides but that’s a good start!
Nearly 5 and half thousand in the ground is a good start though!

I know it was on telly and a late kick off Stocky but many here were expecting a much bigger turn out than today ( respect to those who made the effort ) don’t even think you brought 300, the Stockport fans we were drinking in the pub with didn’t expect a good turnout either, disappointing.

You won’t let it lie, will you. Your obsession with lavatories is unhealthy.

Probably deserved nothing but please don't tell that the ref is standard for the league?
Last week after attending our first game in the very competitive National League at Kings Lynn I thought this ref is good, sadly the opposite today, easy to criticise but very poor today

Just got back and what an amazing performance that was. i would like to see the red card again as it wasnt if the crowd or players were complaining. Terrific defending in the second half agaisnt Notts in full flow. Of course we are going to slow the game down hardly going to go 4 players up front. It was up to Notts to overpower and out play us.

I wasn’t - 5.30 KO on the telly to one of the teams furthest away from us on the back of an absolutely horrendous performance last week.
I thought as it was your first away game you could go to after COVID , and only one poor performance, it was very poor. Seen in the past you’ve taken great numbers away, sadly not today

The crowd was definitely complaining, Wootton may have been going away from goal slightly but he would certainly have had a goalscoring opportunity had Omar not brought him down.

Yes, it was a proper backs to the wall performance from the Gulls in the second half. Literally every man behind the ball, well organised by Gary Johnson, made it very difficult to break you down, which is why I’m probably slightly less critical than some of my fellow pies. If it looked like we were ‘trying to walk it in’ I think that’s because we were trying to find a way past the massed ranks.

We peppered plenty of balls into the box, just more often than not they went to a Torquay shirt, we just needed to be a bit more clinical and a bit less predictable. The one time the Gulls did switch off Wootton glanced a nice header past Halstead from a decent cross by Chicksen (although I still think we missed Taylor in the LWB role). Thought we would win it from there but it wasn’t to be - at least we gave it a go, double sub at Ht and camped in their half for the next 45. Under previous regimes we’d probably have lost that 0-1.

I thought you were physically first to the ball with eleven on the pitch and never allowed us time to play, it's what every scout will report back on how to play us.
Thought it was a clear red, once he blew for the foul he has to give it a red as he was last man, facing goal and just outside the box.
You defended like dogs for seventy minutes and we only made the keeper save twice, both comfortable. We played down the flanks and in front of you having started with five defenders and a holding midfielder who was rightly subbed at half time.
Suspect we'll both get to be around the playoffs but neither will go up for different reasons.

Agreed. Probably both of those players are strikers. Yours were both fairly useless yesterday. I liked your midfielder Dyer and your lanky centre half Cook, his telescopic legs stopped two potential goal scoring opportunities for us.

We did enough. Wasn’t overly impressed with us but we had two injuries and i think we had another gear in us if necessary. Khan was looking great in midfield until he had to come off at HT and our defence looked solid, too many gaps in midfield though and Rowe (striker not manager) had an off day.
