On paper Scunthorpe should win their game, I’m just interested in attitude and whether that plays into Boston’s hands, they have now had 3 back to back dogfight win or bust games and know how to handle pressure situations…….can Scunthorpe with a large expectant crowd? When the pressure was on them earlier when neck and neck with Tamworth the answer was no as they buckled…..if Scunthorpe turn up it’s an easy win but if they don’t Boston have their chance.

Other game is tougher because Brackley won’t be trying firepower to win the tie, Chorley will have got a big scare midweek because they looked poor and Brackley who I find play similar to Curzon will have noted the approach which seemed to hinder Chorley midweek.

But the pressure is eased off Chorley here because they go from favourites to hopefuls it may suit them better

Pressure is massively on us, we finished with the best home record in the league and are in the perfect position to get promoted. Big crowd too, something we notoriously struggle in front of. A Lincolnshire derby adds to the fire, albeit neither teams really sees it each as rivals.

I’ve generally been a pessimist with this club but something just feels different this year, I think we will shade it and win

A play off game at home and you’re not going? Wow. :bl:
I’ll go to watch Spalding, it’s free, it’s nearer, they might win promotion and i won’t be criticised by club officials for speaking my mind.

And the there were four……

Play off semis:

Scunthorpe vs Boston

Brackley vs Chorley

Thoughts??
Got to think it's advantage Scunthorpe and Brackley. Not just because they finished higher in the league but both Boston and Chorley going 120+ minutes in mid week. Big ask to repeat the same required intensity half a week later against a side that is fresh.

Think Brackley are looking dangerous again, they're a hideously efficient team and in reality they play without the pressure of 'needing' to be promoted.

Kind of hope it will be Scunthorpe though. Otherwise this league is starting to look a bit stacked with full time teams next season who will potentially be going for first spot. Potentially: Scunthorpe, Kidderminster, Kings Lynn, Macclesfield. Buxton turning professional too, and still to be seen what South Shields are going to do whilst the take over is ongoing.

No doubt that Scunthorpe and Brackley are favourites, but.... dont write Boston off, they are difficult to play against and I dont believe Chorley will play as poorly again as they did against Curzon, we will all know by teatime tomorrow. Cmon you Magpies.

Boston win on pens…….they seem to be heading for being the most ‘average’ side ever promoted, just blandly chugging along on their way to the final.

Couple of average wins, then two play off games they are second best then win on pens………fair play to them they are defending like hell in these games.

Can they win the next one. I sound harsh with the comments above but it fairness to them they are doing the only thing that matters now……winning the games

I'm pretty convinced that finishing 4th-7th is more advantageous. I think it gives you more momentum going into a semi final game.

Certainly hope you are right Harrier, 6 hours of play off football without a goal so far! Cmon Chorley!

Don't think anyone would disagree if we could win another coin flip next week that we'd be favourites to finish bottom unless a club got into meltdown
Meandered between 6th and 10th pretty much all season but keeping clean sheets at the right time, even though we've been slightly 2nd best in both games

Again though, another advert to get rid of penalties in playoff games. Just send the higher team through if it ends level
Neither team was arsed about winning with 15 mins to go, even scunny who had us on the ropes as we got leggy in extra time

Thank since we went to 6 team playoffs only one runner up (Harrogate) has gone up and that was also the only year 2nd v 3rd was the final

Still think the format is better than 4 teams, 2 legged semis which gave no advantage to the higher team (if anything it was harder as they played away in midweek)

What's the plan for Scunny from here then? Ploughing more dough into getting out? Felt very much like a shit or bust season, but obviously the new owners seem to be a bit more sensible. With the crowds you're drawing in, you'd like to think you're still favourites next season in terms of budget even if you don't go anywhere near as gung ho.

Expect there will be a board meeting or two to decide what happens next.
Seen suggestions of a new manager and how big the budget will be cut.
@Bottega Don’s fingers must be worn out now from all his pro-Dean posts and reposts this morning though.

Already pretty much confirmed the budget will be slashed due to historic debts created by our last two owners. We should still have easily the biggest budget due to our club size and attendances but not as big as this year as we have a sensible owner now.

Think we only have like 5 contracted players for next year and no contracted manager so some big decisions to make.

Our fanbase will never be happy whatever manager we have so it’s irrelevant if Dean gets a new contract or not.

I think the conference north is trying its hardest here for ‘worst play offs in history’ currently.

We are surely not going to have our 4th 0-0 draw and pens!!!

Thank god a goal.

Brackley through 1-0, final is Brackley vs Boston.

Think probably this season going to finally be Brackley’s

Yesterday just gave me that feeling it was Boston's year

Every lose ball just seemed to drop to them, one of their penalties was a stronger hand away from missing, just feels like they're destined to win

Oh well, congratulations to Brackley who were the better side today, I feared we set up not to lose rather than to win, but it's easy to be wise with the benefit of hindsight, Introduction of Johnston was much too late but let's see what happens in close season, will we go full time, only time will tell. Think Brackley might finally get thro to the National League.
