It might be the Cardiff that pawltry Macc Town knocked out the FA Cup a few years again, can't say for sure though.

Now, I've not kept a complete look-out in transfers down here this pre-season for obvious reasons so I might get a few things wrong.

Tranmere will always be there or thereabout, likewise Dagenham under Still.

Aldershot to carry on where they left off last season, although losing Kanu and Benyu will weaken them, Wrexham look solid in defence and midfield but I'm not convinced they've got enough goals in them as of yet and we don't know how Keates will do given that it'll be his first full season in charge.

Of the relegated sides, I've been more impressed with Hartlepool's signings than Orient's but there are question marks over both managers at this level IMO, particularly the former. Hartlepool look to have a decent amount of goals in them.

Fylde will need to tighten up at the back this season. They'll not be scoring 109 goals again and the need to be tightening their defence up quite a bit. I can remember thinking that Ebbsfleet's signings have look good but I can't for the life of me remember who they've signed!

Cox has got a tough job with a bit of a re-build at Barrow, likewise Askey at Macc but we all know what Macclesfield end up doing!

Gateshead appear to have done nothing of note this summer, Boreham Wood's 'safe' style will always seem them be in that mid-table area, which is that close you could go anywhere from 11th to 18th. Dover have lost far too many players and goals to be up there IMO and have had a bit of a Braintree type summer. Kinnear is someone who seems to get the best out of players and finding a way to get results so I don't think they'll do a Braintree, but I can't seem them troubling the top half.

No-one's screaming out bottom four, for me. Heard nothing of Solihull, Woking with a rookie young coach and little money doesn't look a recipe for (relative) success and also lost goals in Ugwu. You'd fancy Devonshire to get Maidenhead safe, I can't make my mind up on Chester so I've put them there by default really!

Worry for Torquay because there's nothing to suggest Nicholson will get any needed investment and the chances are that anyone half decent will be off,

As I say, I've not kept a 100% eye out so I may have missed a few transfers, which would change my opinion!

I'll eat a tub of lard if Steve Davis of all people gets Leyton Orient promoted this season.
I'm not sure on Davis either.

Did he play tippy tappy stuff because it was the Crewe way, or is that how he is anyway?

Neither. It was negative turgid hoofball and constant pressure being placed on our young keeper and a leaky defence. Our midfield was an embarrassment with him at the helm and our ball retention non-existent. Add to the fact he often loved to win 1-0 rather than attack teams and you've got a recipe for disaster when you're 1-0 down early on in a game like we were. Artell has us playing more like the Crewe way after a good 4 or 5 year absence from our philosophy thanks to his predecessor.

I think Orient have made a huge mistake but I can't wish any ill will on a great club like the O's. That said, I'm confident he won't win them promotion. He's a one man ego show and they'll find out soon enough.

Pisser how he said in the London Evening Standard how he said he rejected job offers from Wolves and Burnley to stay loyal to Crewe when any man worth his salt knows that's obvious bullshit. For Christ's sake, he's even a massive Wolves fan!

They're getting quite excited about him on this forum :2thumb:

Just because I think that the Hartlepool side looks fucking turgid again (and I really don't think I've ever seen a more disgusting, half-arsed performance than yours at BR last season), doesn't mean that I think Steve Davis is anything more than an arrogant chancer who is going to be desperately hanging off of Martin Ling's glorious nutsack.

Don't disagree about the performance but that was then. You keep banging on about it but what bearing does it have now? This is pretty much an entirely new team. A lot of non league media and here on this forum seem to think we should be in the mix with the side we have. So we'll see if they're right.

Mid table all the way, both of you.

I bow to your greater expertise, what with you having watched a mid-table conference side for the past decade.

Excuse me! Midtable. Then briefly flirting with promotion for three seasons. Then lower mid table. If you please!

You might do better. I might be being influenced by all the wailing and gnashing of teeth by Orient fans over the last few weeks. Then again being the least popular team in London must give you an inferiority complex.

We have 5 players who were regarded as the best players in this league over the past 2 or 3 years. I'm not sure why this Orient fan is so sure we won't do well. Yes, question marks over the manager, but you are saying the team looks 'fucking turgid'. From the team that played Orient last year, there is likely to be at least 8 new players in our starting line up. What exactly are you basing your 'fucking turgid' opinion on?
