Nobody thought this when shite teams like Barrow were going for promotion.
Would not call yourselves tinpot, Youve done your time.I don't think the shite teams like Barrow are that shite anymore- yourselves and Sutton have adapted to L2 well. The National league is far more professional than it used to be and better a well run club comes up than a basket case club who finish 22nd every season cling on to their league status. I'm all for it moving to three up three down.
The danger is more tin pot financially doped teams coming up.... Cough.
I might be a bit off with this but I think 18 of the current 24 in league two and 12/24 in League One have been promoted out of NL since re-election was binned. Given so many in the EFL have experience of the bottleneck of NL I'd be hopeful they'd not pull the ladder up. I know from experience that It only takes a few poor decisions and a team comfortable in League One finds themselves in NL in short order... I'd be hopeful that clubs vote to make things easier to return for if/when they drop.I think pretty much everyone now agrees that it should be 3 up 3 down but will 75% of League 2 clubs ever vote for it?
Not a fucking chance.
So then you only have three spots at the top of the NL that mean anything? You'd have dead rubbers at Christmas.Should be 2 up 2 down & 3rd bottom of League 2 plays 3rd top of the National in a play off, similar to the German model.
There are only 18 teams in Bundesliga 2 though, so that playoff model is just about fine for that amount but really that's the absolute max you want. With 6 extra teams in the division that's a lot of teams with nothing to play for quite early on in the season.Id say go for elections again but none of you lot would vote for us anyway!
Seriously, there is a case for keeping a bottleneck to deliberately make it hard to get into the league. I can accept the reasoning.
Should be three and three though. So I would plump for the German model.
Casey
That would effectively kill the play-off system though.Should be 2 up 2 down & 3rd bottom of League 2 plays 3rd top of the National in a play off, similar to the German model.
That's the thing, over half this division have been down to the NL so we may as well do the extra club to officially normalize it .I might be a bit off with this but I think 18 of the current 24 in league two and 12/24 in League One have been promoted out of NL since re-election was binned. Given so many in the EFL have experience of the bottleneck of NL I'd be hopeful they'd not pull the ladder up. Timing may seem sus as a fan of a team just relegated but I genuinely have argued for years that 3up/down should apply from Prem - NL.
Once everyone is back where they belong we can pull the drawbridge up, there's still a lot of work to be done.Time to pull the drawbridge up. No more promotion or relegation. Don’t want any non-league minnows polluting our glorious 92, do we brethren and sisters?
Agreed that the third promotion place should be a relegation/promotion affair and I like the idea of the 3rd bottom side being disadvantaged with 2 away ties. They'd REALLY have to earn that reprieveSo then you only have three spots at the top of the NL that mean anything? You'd have dead rubbers at Christmas.
The NL playoffs are great, that model needs to be rolled out across the EFL.
You could give 3rd bottom in L2 the 7th placed playoff spot in the NL perhaps?
First legs of double legs more often than not damp squibs. National League play offs are some of the best sporting chaos of the year.Lot of crap first legs in the EFL playoffs this season, this should have brought some momentum into bringing in a National League type system. Won‘t happen because a)the current playoff system has been in for over 30 years and b) they wouldn’t want to be seen taking ideas from the lower orders.
The only problem with league 2 is that it would bring 9th into play for promotion, but many would see that as a good thing.
Grimsby and Hartlepool: Hold our beers.League 2 to national league is about the only level that doesn’t have some sort of yo-yo effect so it’s doing something right.
Tip don’t hire Holloway again and you won’t have toGrimsby and Hartlepool: Hold our beers.
