Would have been much better if when the kid gives the old fella the telescope, the camera pans out after he's looked at it and he appears in the house across the street. COMPLETE THE BLOODY METAPHOR GUYS.

Jeezus.

Found out today that John Lewis is employee-owned, is that right? Made me slightly less annoyed about the Christmas advert (which I won't watch cos I don't have a TV), because that's a good thing and more big British business should be employee-owned.

So go on, John Lewis employees. Have your shit Christmas advert that makes twats cry. Can't be any more egregious than that Sainsbury's one about World War I.

Edit: I think it's actually run by its employees more than owned by them. Still.
Edited edit: No they do own it.

Don't have a problem with the Jon Lewis adverts myself, but that Sainsbury's effort was a shocker.

Yeah, the John Lewis Partnership, which owns John Lewis and Waitrose is employee-owned so employees have some degree of say in the running of the company and also a share of profits. I can probably forgive them a sentimental Xmas ad tbh - everyone's at it these days so I don't really view them as any worse an offender than any of the big supermarket chains. Usually seem to manage to avoid them until at least December.

Are you a professional astroturfer on behalf of horrible advertising agencies? There's a suspicious pattern emerging here.

The Nazis had nice uniforms, MATES.

You'll be trying to defend the Coca Cola truck tour next.

I'm a JL/Waitrose partner and tbh I'd rather see the expense go in my bonus tbh tbf.

As the old Buddhist proverb goes, one will never realise inner peace and contentment until one reconciles one's self to the grim inevitability of mawkish Christmas adverts on the television. Stop fighting it m8s.

Actually, that's probably exactly what a professional astroturfer on behalf of a horrible advertising agency would say, isn't it? Shit, RUMBLED

To be fair, although I don't particularly like this advert, they are raising awareness for Age UK, which I'm glad to see is a cause that is gaining a lot of publicity of late.

I'm a bit of a sucker for the JL adverts. Most adverts are pretty forgettable but they do seem to hit a chord each year and although it's a ploy to get us to spend more money, I do like their adverts.

Saying that, it's too early for it and this year is nowhere near as good as previous efforts. I'll still have a wander around JL before Christmas though. It's right next door to my office in my defence...

It's possibly a bit too early but I like the advert and the message it's trying to get across.

Is this your prediction for next year's advert?

I saw the start of the John Lewis advert this evening, but I managed to lose concentration halfway through. I'm embarrassed with myself tbh. Says more about me than the advert that.

I was still reeling after the Edith/Mary argument I think.

I want to throw items at my television every time the John Lewis / Coca Cola / Halfords and other very specifically 'Christmas' adverts come on.

Which is quite often.

It's early November, FFS.

My TV isn't gonna last it into December in one piece.
