We have some good recent opening day history with Newport. Started the 16/17 season with a 3-2 win down at their place, then began last season with a 3-0 win against them at home.

Can't remember anything significant happening between us in any games whatsoever after that so put us down for another three goals and three points. Ta.

We never seem to get the decisions against Newport, I think during the two legged play-off semi-finals they got away with three red cards. I respect Newport because they have this ability to keep achieving more than anybody including themselves expected but Christ they have a larger than usual percentage of fans that are weirdos.

I had a quick look on their forum and they are still delusional about how they are pretty much widely regarded the most physical side in the division.

Don't know what to expect tbh, what with it being Dempster's first game. Also don't know how much Newport have kept their team together from last season, or even added to it? If either, they have good reason to be confident.

I wouldn't be unhappy with a draw really, first game of the season down there. 3-3.

Pretty sure they have added quite a bit of strength in depth, to be fair to Newport playing them away from home is one of the most difficult fixtures in the divison and the front pairing are a real handful although we do have a very good defence.

They seem more like a team that excel when things pick up, the race is on and the fixtures are coming thick and fast - if they start well they will be in and around the play-offs I imagine.

Happily take a point, you should never take to much out of the opening day fixtures.

I never feel confident playing Newport away. Not sure if the record backs this up but they seem to stick in the mind since the Conference days as being a nightmare to play at their ground. I fancy Newport to win.

Few important things to mention is Tomlinson and most importantly White are out for this I believe which does weaken us.

My biggest worry is with it being the first game we might not be prepared for the aeriel onslaught which is what Newport do best, you always get sloppy performances so early on.

I reckon this year could be a tough one for Hayden White. He's likely to have lost some muscle while he's been injured making him more prone to injuries with his explosive style. Hope I am wrong but wouldn't surprise me if he was in and out the team for a while while he regains full strength.

No surprise Newport are winning, if they have promotion aspirations they should easily be beating teams like Mansfield.

I had a bad feeling. Time will tell but I didn't think our transfer business had improved us. Overall, we're probably about the same as last year but without competition for the three centre backs.

2-0 after playing the same team that finished last season.... changed formation and bring on our best player and its 2-2 magic.

Decisions never go our way against Newport, the penalty looked soft and I didn't see the Mellis challenge but after them getting away with around three red cards in the play-offs and Danny Rose being fed through a straw for a couple of weeks the last time we visited them in the league it really is a sore point.

I feel like a lot of the yellows and decisions are being made due to the Newport fans, which is a credit to them tbf.

Referee is literally chucking out cards like confetti and has lost control.

The first half was quite frankly absymal, pretty much everyone was shite except Rose and Maynard although they did not really do much but that's what saves them. Fair Play to Newport they performed good and took full advantage, I need to see the penalty again though it looked a bit soft.

Second half we had to change formation due to CJ Hamliton getting injured so we changed to a back four and brought Kellan and Khan on, Khan instantly changed the game with his absloute quality on the ball and we scored two goals on the bounce. It only took a few minutes later and we got a penalty which Maynard made far too easy for the goalkeeper to save. Jacob Mellis got sent off but I am not sure what happened.

Glad that fixture is over, and happy with a point, Danny Rose is coming off the pitch with a bloodied head bandage - only a few months back he got absloutely clattered here and ended up in hospital.

Side note on the referee who let the fans decide the flow of the games at times, it's just not good enough at a professional level.

Would have taken a point before the game, important to go to a place like Newport where you know they’re going to be physical cloggers and try and beat you up.

The comeback was encouraging and happy with the result, sounds like we were completely taken aback in the first half but rebounded well in the 2nd.

Seemed like a Jekyll and Hyde performance, but happy to escape from there with a point

Entertaining game but should have been out of site by HT. Logan made some great saves again. Great first half but fell asleep after the break.
2 clear cut pens today. Looked like your 17 pulled Matt down for our pen, not sure why he hasn’t booked as was already on a yellow.
Our new guys look promising particularly full backs Haynes and McNamara.
Mansfield lumped it long to Rose most of the game, prob got a headache hence the bandage.
Same old Mansfield, falling over at every opportunity. Was embarrassing, especially the little fella in midfield trying to get Labs sent off. He’s hilarious.
Mellis stood on Labs for the red card - another off the ball challenge.
Think you Mansfield fans need to wipe the shit out of your eyes - time to take off your yellow tinted specs and see what your players get up to.
