I always enjoy the shrill pantomime dames who constitute the Mansfield fans on this forum who simply cannot tolerate any thing that might be construed as criticism of their team and flock together like some self-righteous lynch mob crowing about how (insert team here) are violent/lucky/cheating/vile/cloggers and lower league officials are biased/inept/influenced by opposition fans. Opposition fans are 'nonces', 'thick' 'unable to embrace their 'own teams physicality'

Is it just me, but am I the only one who thinks this was just another fourth division game between a relatively bankrolled side who have underachieved for a few seasons now, and a team with fewer financial resources who are punching above their weight? Neither team are Barcelona. Nobody outside the Rodney Parade or Field Mill gives a tupenny fuck about whether we are overly physical, or that Mansfield are the very definition of the beautiful game.

Stop being knobs and enjoy the season. I seriously worry that some of us will spontaneously combust and it's only the first game of the season.

Surely we're all a bit abnormal people who invest our heart and soul in following what are basically shite football teams who give us a glimpse of nirvana every decade or so. I've been to enough County games, and seen enough Mansfield fans to know there really is very little difference between the two teams other than some Mansfield fans lack the grace and humility of the average shite lower league team.

I might be just another 'uneducated thug' Newport County fan, but grow the fuck up you bunch of crybabies. It's just a game of football. Thank fuck we don't all churn out the same style of football. What a dull game this would be.

On the upside, at least they're not using our pitch as an excuse for their eternal underperforming. If Mansfield were really as good as some as their fans think they are, surely they would have worked out how to have beaten all teams, including the vile cloggers of this world.

Is this what constant underachievement does to people?

Just seen highlights

Both keepers should do better, Logan for the Newport first, County's for the equaliser.

The Mellis thing, it just looks a bit snidey by JM, not much contact but he knew what he was doing.

For me and I may be bias, it’s silly what he did but it wasn’t a stamp therefore it should have been a yellow.

Similar to when someone pushes another players, it’s silly but it’s a yellow.
maybe its a yellow, but just dont get yourself in that situation, and then youre not at the risk of a poor decision

Are these all genuine gripes or just a carry over from last season’s POs?

Probably both mate, they definitely got away with some reds in that but I still find that red bemusing yesterday. One thing that has always got me was last season when Danny Rose got clattered so bad he broke his face and was fed through a straw for a fortnight, they just boo’ed him and sang the original ‘same old mansfield’

To anybody who this thread upsetting, unfortunately for you this is what a lower league forum on the internet is like, and always will be. I’m more than happy to respond to people of the nature like Roger Stone and El Staggo but equally somebody who fancies a chat about important match moments. Not interested in somebody who writes a huge post about ‘crybabies’ because he takes it too seriously and manages to come across like one in his own post.

Not upset ... just a bit tedious (and a bit pissed last night). It was all a bit Groundhog Day. It is in the nature of a forum such as this, that name calling etc. takes place in amidst the chat about football. It does me chuckle that Mansfield fans take on so re: the sort of physical football that is a staple of L2 when Mansfield are as guilty of gamesmanship and overly physical play and as any other team in the league. The stats from yesterday's game don't lie.

Regardless of this, the Stags will do very very well this season (and so they should with their budget) and rookie manager or not, he saw and sorted the problems at half-time which bodes well.

Once the County bed in the newbies, I reckon we will be in with a shout come the end of the season.

You’ve got to admit we have different levels of physicality on show, I mean we had Nicky Maynard and Danny Rose upfront while you had two giants in comparison (who I both rate to be fair) upfront.

I’m not trying to say we are not physical you do indeed get a element of that with any side at this level in English football, but for me Newport were comfortably the most physical side in the division last season and I’ll probably come to that conclusion this season too. Credit to the fans too because they claim for absolutely everything and if you get a incompetent referee that really does help. I’m actually surprised you don’t see it, and equally I’m surprised you don’t like the fact I say it surely it’s a compliment considering it’s working pretty well?

On a side note Danny Rose was back to his best yesterday, he once again took a absolute battering and got his head split open and eventually was required to go in midfield but he was brilliant.

Interesting read on here but stunned to see a Newport fan refer to their player as Labs.

I read some comments that on Stagsnet that he'd be a bit part player this season. On that evidence he'd give any of your forwards a run for their money.

Anyway, here we go again. Thank God the football is back.

Oh ... Amond a giant? Matt certainly is (although for a big guy he's not the greatest in the air), but Amond looks like a 'willowy' 5' 10" to me. Willowy-ish. If he had more pace he could have played a lot higher. Superb football brain Podge.

Not seen any highlights. Said a draw would be okay before the game. Thing with that though is I would have snapped your hand off for it at HT but then it's disappointing to not win when you miss a penalty that would have put you ahead (and got us the 3 goals in the thread title FFS).

Sounds like both sides can take positives from it for the season. This might be the beginning of a beautiful friendship (aka mutual pantomime villain rivalry) as the season goes on if we're both doing similarly well.

Same Newport, can see why no one likes them. Big bullying physical long ball side... wont trouble the top of the divison really. Even from a throw it's going long. First pen wasn't a penalty, players came together and Matt threw himself down in comical fashion. Danny rose needed his head glueing back together at HT, suppose that's an improvement on the broken jaw he got at Newport last time.

We should of won, poor pen from Maynard and then mellis wasn't even a yellow.. never mind.
Good to get a point at such a horrible place before it turns into a paddy field in a few weeks time as two rugby clubs play at Rodney parade.

First half was poor from us, but Newport didn't threaten that much and wasted a million chances as usual. Got gifted a pen and still couldn't get three points. Brilliant

As a neutral I’m a bit torn on that red card, definitely deliberate but then not an actual stamp and I don’t reckon it’ll have hurt as much as the Newport player is making out.
For me I’d say a yellow but can also understand why a ref might give a red, and the guy is daft for giving the ref a decision to make.

Also loved Mansfield’s first goal, love a nice bullet header me.

Clear cut as far as I'm concerned. He goes in with his shins onto Labadie's back and maybe thinks the referee will be more lenient because he used a 'less dangerous' part of his body, but it's got all the hallmarks of a red card, deliberate, no attempt to play the ball, trying to hurt the opposition player, and I'm sure it would hurt if you're in that position on the ground and then a big physical midfielder lands in the small of your back. The fact he didn't go in with his feet first doesn't make it not a red card.

Labadie (a player I've never liked) probably isn't as hurt as he makes out but that really doesn't matter, unless he play-acts to make a nothing challenge seem worse than it was then the fouled player's reaction is irrelevant.

Red for me.

Just because it's only his knee/shin, it doesn't make it any less of a red. I have little sympathy for someone who gives the ref a decision to make. There's no need for him to drop onto the player like that.

EDIT - As above, basically.

It’s very split and I respect your opinion but Jacob Mellis is probably the least physical player in our squad, but I get ya point.

It’s split on Stagsnet to be fair, I still stand by my comments.

I’m waiting for a different angle of the Newport Penalty because I’m still not sure about that either.

Yeah but 'tricky midfield playmaker' doesn't quite sound as painful a projectile.

The official highlights are useless for the Newport penalty, all you can really say is that if it is a penalty, the second screenshot is just after is the moment of contact. Jamille Matt (if that's who it is) looks to be going for the header in the first one and then his trajectory has changed by the second.

About as blatant a red card you will ever see, unless of course you are a myopic Mansfield fan lol.
Can you imagine the pant pissing on here if it was the Mansfield player on the receiving end of such a dull, cheap shot. There’d be pages and pages of bollox with no end of the usual hilarious and original comments.
Don’t understand the Mansfield sense of entitlement already rearing it’s ugly head after a single game. Right up there with the Gogs on that front boyos.

Let’s draw a line under all this bickering and all just agree that both Newport AND Mansfield are cheating filthy dirty bastard scum. ;)

Thanks.

Roger Stone is right about the penalty though. Having seen the extended highlights and the slow motion replay that's as blatant a penalty as could be. He alters his position to put his knee(s) into Labadie's back. Any player in any league would make a meal of that.
