Table topping Crewe visit South Wales looking for a 4th away win in a row (I don't think we managed that many the whole of last season)

This run can't go on forever and I'm expecting a very tough game. Newport look tough to beat but aren't scoring many goals. Abit gutted we won't be playing our new lucky gold shirts so for that reason I'm going for

Newport 1-0 Crewe (Matt) 4,055 (290 Railwaymen)

It’s the second consecutive season that Crewe have played us at home whilst topping the table.

Also, this is our second consecutive home game against the league leaders, after Plymouth last week. Over to Port Vale to try to continue that trend for the next home game.

Demetriou is out for 2 1/2 months and there are doubts over Labadie, Bennett & Dolan.

We are 14 games unbeaten in regular league fixtures, a club record, and 9 unbeaten at home.

With Crewe’s flying start, our injury list & possibly one eye on West Ham I’ll predict 2-1 to Crewe

4th straight season we've played Newport in August. Would have been the 4th straight season playing at Rodney Parade in August as well had the fixture not been switched to Gresty Road 2 years ago.

Expecting a very tough game. It's crazy how even our record is against Newport over the last 3 season. Won 2, drew 2, lost 2. One of each at each ground too. Scored 8, conceded 8 as well.

Would happily take a point. Not sure we'll get as many chances as we did against Oldham and Crawley, so we'll need to be clinical Infront of goal. Going 1-1, Powell and Almond.

Hoping Pickering is fit, he came of Vs Crawley with an injury and were not exactly stocked with replacements at full back, I suppose with Lancashire back from suspension Hunt could fill in there if needed. Will also be interesting if we get a look of our new signing Chuba Anene.

3-0 Crewe win. Lowery, Powell, Kirk and Porter too much to handle in the first half. Comfortably seeing the game out in the second half.

Very average first half. Crewe with more possession but not doing much with it, while we aren’t doing much either but with less possession. Riveting stuff.

Frustrating, sounded like we controlled pretty much all of the game, then get caught out like that in injury time.

Poor game. Neither side deserved a point really, let alone 3.
Crewe had lots of the ball, tippy tappy from the back but nothing on the end of it unfortunately. Ng was quality today in fairness.
We defended well, shocking going forward though. Excellent 3 points as we didn’t play well plus have a few out injured.

Very solid at the back so far. 4 clean sheets since the opening game. Flynny is looking to get another forward in before the transfer window.

Better side for 92 minutes, then get caught on the counter. Hilariously predictable.

Still not enough cutting edge, Powell and Kirk are all style and no substance at the moment. The midfield always want that one extra touch, that one extra pass. Not one of them wants to pull the damn trigger.

Criminal to lose. Maybe we didn't do enough to win, but don't bloody lose it FFS. Oh well, it's been a good start through 5 games. Need to be better in both boxes for sure, but I'll take 9 points from those first 5. Need to be better next week otherwise Donaldson and Vaughan will tear us a new arsehole.

Anyone got got any idea why Artell made no subs today? A boiling hot day aswell. Hardly surprising we concede late on.

1st half both teams were a bag of shit, 2nd half crewe played us off the park until they reached the final third they were woeful in front of goal and wouldn't have scored if we played till next Saturday then caught by the old sucker punch in injury time, I thought Ng was the best player on the field with kirk not far behind him, for us sheehan was the only stand out and also our defence looks very solid, its on to west ham and then fgr for us and for crewe a week learning where the goal is.

Was thinking to myself in the 90th minute what a good point that is against a good Newport side, then we go and shoot ourselves in the foot. Oh well, we’re going to lose a few, could point the blame at Artell making no changes but he will have his reasons. We learn, we move on, seen enough to suggest we’ll be up there this season.

Smash and grab today but I'll take that all season long. Our strikers are struggling to find last season's form, but we are as tight as a crab's ass in defence.

Crewe looked decent but why didn't Artell chuck a couple of forwards on towards the end when both teams looked tired?

Hot day. Crap game. Great result.

Hearing we had 92% possession in the 2nd half which if true is astonishing.

Everyone's saying we've played so well yesterday and yet I'm thinking that was our worst performance of the season.

We created very few clear cut chances. We dicked about with the ball in the final third. We didn't test their keeper enough. And we suffered for our failure to test the keeper by making a diabolIcal mistake which punished us against a side who I thought were exceedingly poor and devoid of any creativity about them. But they took their chance in added time and deserve the win and we can have absolutely no complaints about it.

Get extra target practice on the go in training because it's holding us back from really being in the promotion mix and I do think if we don't rectify our lack of goals soon we'll begin a slide down the table. But I'm very happy with our start to the season compared to last year's. Bradford will be tough next week but after that, let's just hope we have a good September for the first time in what seems like forever.

The lack of subs seemed to have come from Artell thinking a goal was coming. Which in part I understand, we spent most of the 2nd half in their end. But on the slip side, him thinking a goal was coming is a bit odd, given the starting XI had created very little, bar Kirk's weak as piss header and a superb save from Lowery. Porter could have come off, Powell could have come off. Maybe get Finney or Jones on for Green?

He's admitted his mistake, but that also doesn't cover the fact the fact that our most reliable defender in Nolan got done is embarrassing fashion by Abrahams. It's a shambolic bit of play from a guy who doesn't usually make those mistakes. Annoyingly composed from Abrahams to square calmly to Amond as well.

You had 63% overall, so can't see how that would work?
It's not that complicated to understand. If for example, both teams went in at half time with 50% possession each and it finished at 63% in our favour by full time, it would suggest we had somewhere in the 70-90% region solely in the 2nd half to pull it so heavily in our favour.

So that equates to Newport only having possession for, at most, 4 minutes of the second half. Despite having 5 shots in that half, plus some free kicks/corners/throw ins etc. No chance is that accurate.

Well, it must have come from somewhere. It's way too specific a number to have been made up. And to be honest, true or not, 63% possession across the whole game for 3 shots on target is abysmal.
