Far too early to read anything in to this. Regardless of the signings a team's made they could still take the first half of the season to gel, I don't think you get a good idea until you've played most of your pre-season games.

I'm also quite uneasy seeing us at the top of the list, just adds to the pressure which has already placed on the team to go back up at the first attempt.

Barrow are being over-rated a bit here - we'll need a lot of signings, and we'll need them to gel quickly, to be competitive in the play-offs this year. Although results were good, some of our performances were shockingly poor last season I'd happily see us finish a safe and silent 12th and then push on in future seasons.

No way should we be favourites, as we showed in the play-offs we're still some way short of the best sides in this league, and tbh with Pennock's style of football i'm not sure that's going to change. Top 5 is doable, but I can't see us winning enough games to do better then that.

Grimsby, Eastleigh or Tranmere will win it. But none should be shorter then 7's as no one really stands out at this point.

I don't agree with the odds quoted at the start of this thread. I can't see why ours are so short, far lower that I would have thought, we limped into the play-offs and showed that we were still some way off over two legs against the Gas. If Parkin gets crocked, or age sets in, we are really stuffed for goals unless Joe Yorke and Guthrie can produce the goods. Why are Macclesfield all the way out at 33-1, far too long, maybe worth a punt. There are a few teams who I would expect to be better next season, plus we have the unknown quantities of Tranmere and Cheltenham, both of whom could easily be challengers. I am expecting a finish similar to the one I had predicted for last season, of somewhere just outside the play-offs, which will undoubtedly please lots of people on here.

To early to say with most squads needed to be added too but i'd expect the likes of Grimsby, FGR and Eastleigh will be up there. As it stands not including Moult who'd id expect to be in or around the 20 goals mark i dont see another player in our squad who will get in or near double figures. So without 2 or 3 goalscoring wingers/forwards added we wont be challenging but Mills has stated he's after forwards

Exactly our odds are far too short, as unless we improve significantly we're simply not good enough to win the amount of games you need to win the title. Goals could be a problem, neither Guthrie or Sam-Yorke are likely to be particularly prolific, and you wonder how we'll cope if anything happens to Parkin.

I wouldn't bother. Askey did exceptionally well last season but we currently have no team (as already mentioned elsewhere) and us fans would really like some good news (in form of a signing) soon, and it was a similar situation last season that led to us being favourites for relegation. Our financial situation needs to change before we will challenge realistically.

No surprises with the odds that have come out. Bristol Rovers were favourites last year and Tranmere fits that profile this year. Bet365 had Forest Green and Eastleigh 2nd and 3rd in the betting, so again, given they both ran into the top 5, I can see why they have put them back up there.

Have you ever seen a bookie who looked poor or underfed?

Agree with your top 5 and without wanting to sound over-confident, I'm kinda expecting us to run away with it tbh and that's before we've even signed any strikers. It couldn't be much of an easier job for Hurst. I think our only real threat will be Eastleigh.

Certainly do not see us running away with it. We have a decent core but certainly not good enough to run away with it. It will be interesting to see which strikers we can pick up.

I think it will be very tight this year. For my top 5 I'd go for...

Grimsby
Wrexham
Eastleigh
Tranmere
Forest Green

... but it's so tight it could be in any order tbh.

Said a while ago that it'll go one of two ways, we'll slump to mid-table like most play-off losers do or we'll win it comfortably. I'll probably stand by that statement for a while to come and I firmly believe it'll be the latter. It might look a little shaky at first but after 46 games we'll be worthy winners. Our only competitors will be Eastleigh.

Looking forward to being heavily quoted on this in a few months time when someone like Woking sit top.

According to the NLP Cox the former Mansfield manager is favourite.
The chairman has been on the forum basically said that the NLP made up the 2 names in the paper and there has been a couple of interesting late applicants. Dave Penney and Malcolm Crosby are names now being mentioned.

Cox would be a silly one if you still want to go down the 'footballing' route.

Lincoln, Halifax, Dover and Bromley are a bit short.

Chester will finish higher than 16th.

We're not going to win the league so 20/1 or 2000/1 doesn't make any difference, going to be half a new team next season and an entirely new midfield, logic would suggest it will take us a while to get in to our stride. Not expecting anything other than a top 8 finish.

Well it does, 2000/1 would suggest you're going to get relegated. Mid-table for your lot next season.

We were 8/1 second favorites behind luton for l2 at this point last summer so read nothing into it.

Cheltenham are a great price beat us twice last year, i still cannot understand how they went down

Good to see we're well-fancied as ever!

Don't really think there's a value bet in there. Maybe Barrow if they go on to recruit some big players for this level. But I don't think I'll be betting on anyone with those odds.

Did the double over Cambridge as well.

We went down because we were bloody dreadful. You were just worse. I said for a good few weeks before the end of the season, whoever stayed up out of us, yourselves and Hartlepool would be stealing a place in the Football League, luckily for Pools it was them.

I was hoping we'd progress a bit and not regress instead, there's three or four teams just above us in that list that I'd have further down.

Agree that you look a little too long there. I'd expect you to finish ahead of Bromley, Dover and Macclesfield to be honest.

It was a strange old division we should have done the double over shrewsbury and we hammered wycombe away. Losing leads was our downfall last year at least 3 times we lost from being 2-0 up.... As you very well know!

That comeback win made us believe we were going to have a great season, a couple of weeks later we were top of the League.

Disaster from then on though.
