You can still be somewhat competitive in this division on the lowest gates. As much as Morecambe haven't quite progressed in the years they have been in the league, they always assemble a good enough squad to stay in the league, with the odd player going on to play at a higher level. Crawley must gate gates on average of 2,000 and always seem to do okay too.

If you believe what was going on at Accrington, they were on a small budget with a low fanbase but with the right management and scouting in the non-league they had a couple of good seasons and got into league 1.

The problem isn't the fanbase, it's how the club is being run.

I'll be the first to admit I didn't think Sol Campbell would have done as well as he did, so his appointment turned out to be decent and to also credit him, his recruitment looked pretty decent this season too (I know he filled the squad with a lot of rubbish in January, who never even played for Macc) so if Macc had a decent owner, you could continue to survive in this league. I'd much rather see Macclesfield town here than the likes of Eastleigh or Solihull Moors.

Its harder now than the days Vale and Crewe were successful in the second tier on smaller gates as money is the key now but you can still do it with a long term project such as Accy and probably the best example of a side who havent thrown loads at it being Burton Albion.

Never in a million years should they be making the Championship on their gates and finance but they built year on year and are as well run as any club in the EFL.

Its difficult but needs either lots of cash if a smaller club or a lot of patience (which very few fans/owners have)

In the early days when it was him and his brother running the club it was very much played on one of their wives being from Macc so had affiliations with the area. Over the years the interest soon dwindled, their own telecoms business not making as much money and then suddenly deciding "they know best" and appointing Steve King after our relegation. Just slowly but surely lost all interest and it feels as though now has kept hold of the club far too long and needs to find ways of making sure he gets as much of his input back.

He has covered short term gaps now and then, but whereas in years gone by these would then be converted to shares, in the last year or two he hasnt and then reimburses himself as soon as possible, and now getting worse that he's taken loans out to pay the shortfall and has to pay them back. Has become a classic "rob Peter to pay Paul" scenario.

I don't personally think he's got malicious intent, just let things roll on far too long and is paying for not running the club properly for the last 5/6 years.

Funnily enough, we actually turned a profit a few years ago following our run to the FA Trophy final.

I think Bashar was more active and keen about the whole thing initially, but he stepped away from it and Amar got involved. Funnily enough this was yearish before we got relegated.

Amar then decided to opt to have more of a say in things and (even before the Steve King debacle) his leadership resulted in a string of selling players and not replacing them, and then trying to save us by chucking a ridiculous amount of cash on Brian Horton (his wages, not giving him to spend on the squad that is) for just 8 games. And he didn't win a game and we still went down. Then he ignored the advice of others and went for Steve King and completely fucked us. Apparently agreed to sell the club at one point with the sale going through numerous steps (meeting with the EFL etc.) but then he pulled the plug, hoping to get more money out of it.

We're a joke. Surely he can't stay in charge like this?

Doesn't look good for Macc. They obviously rely heavily on matchday income and with Bradford game being called off that will have hurt them massively short term.

They had to have the Vale fixture to pay the previous month's late wages I think so what happens in the deep winter if games are called off or they host low travelling teams.

Very worrying but also pretty frustrating that its being allowed to happen month on month considering this was regularly occurring last season.

Last season we had a home game called off in March, and that was used as a reason for not being able to pay wages at the end of the month. The game was rescheduled for April and thus we had an extra game that month; still didn't pay wages on time.

Ultimately the issues run very deep within the club (by club i mean owner, as it's just him) and these will only change with a change of ownership.

It's official. The players are looking to cancel their contracts.

This is heartbreaking.

---

Macclesfield players are seeking legal advice and looking to cancel their playing contracts after the club have, once again, failed to pay their salaries.

It's the tenth time wages have not been paid on time and the second time this season and players have also complained to the EFL.

A players spokesman has told Sky Sports News: "We have not been paid again and after contacting the EFL we once again feel extremely let down by them after they promised they'd look into it in more detail and didn't realise how serious the matter was.

"It is clear however that they've done neither as an email sent to them 15 days ago has had no response whatsoever.

"The players are now regretfully left with no alternative but to seek legal advice on how to cancel their contracts and find new clubs."

The club appeared in court earlier this month faced with a winding up petition. It was the second time this year after an HMRC petition hearing was adjourned in May over an unpaid sum reported to be £73,000.

The Bradford postponement, as been said on here, will greatly decrease the income for Macclesfield from a planned 1500 travelling support to a midweek 500 ish?

In terms of the future surely administration would not be a bad option for Macc, at least unlike this season -12 points wouldn't be terminal and with one club only going down if it happened today for example they'd only be 2 points from safety and can keep their squad which looks to have enough to stay up even with a deduction.

If the squad walk out and they have to play kids week in week out then that likely would be relegation as you've seen with Bolton's results as they would get walloped week in week out.

Macclesfield apparently blaming Brexit for the current situation!

I've heard it all now. I can just see them all sat around that table in Brussells dreaming up ways of how they're gonna screw Macclesfield.

I really feel for the Macc fans. To me this sorry state of affairs reads more like genuine mismanagement at the top (due to inexperience at running a FL club perhaps??) and not the usual SOB approach that quite a few clubs think is a good idea until things go south (see Bury).

Bury have received a stay of execution because they may have paid too much tax?
Still paying tax for employees who are no longer working at the club?

The thing that gets me is in the past clubs in trouble have had embargo’s on signing players so why on Earth where Macc allowed to make signings in the summer when players hadn’t been paid from the previous season and many of them had walked out their contracts due to it?!

Agree 100%

It was the same in January and barely any if them played , baffling way to run a football club.

I just don't see how they can finance the season if at the very beginning of it wages can't be paid.

The players should walk away. I hate to say it as the club would then no doubt go down, but this is tiresome season after season.

To be fair, isn't Macc's issue just cash-flow rather than anything overly sinister?

Topline yes I think it is. But this has been going on for so long now that instead of the owner getting out at a time when all of this could have been avoided, he's borrowed money from here there and everywhere to pay people, and then screwed himself over when it comes to paying that. It's like a football club version of a desperate person using payday loans to get by on a week to week basis.

Reports are that he and his business have net assets of -£3.5m, yet the club somehow "owes" him £4.5m. That just doesnt exist, and there's no assets for him to strip (I'm 90% sure the ground is covered by a covenant meaning it can't be sold without a replacement built), so the creditors list just continually grows.

What would administration actually solve, other that screw all out creditors over, and just start the cycle again of having low income so we miss wages?

In short, We're fucked. But no idea what the way out it.

Joe Sealey (was interested in late bid for Bury) is looking to buy us, but Amar is proving uncooperative/blocking it.

Got brought up on Talksport today. Hopefully the growing media pressure might force the owner to do something.

He likes to keep a low profile, but that's not going to happen now he's being talked about in the National media.

Potential player strike for a FA cup game is more attention to the situation that we need, just hope the narrative is that it is one person at the centre of it all that is the issue.

Well, on Talksport anyway...

And the Sun. Plus Jim White is a Sky Sports man as well, so a lot more people are hearing about Alkhadi's ownership of Macc now. Can't be a bad thing.

I don't understand him whatsoever... He clearly can't afford it and continues to bull shit his way through. We aren't stupid and everyone knows he needs to step aside.
