"100" Barnet at Eastleigh.

That figure is almost as laughable as the 1800 home fans they said were there. A fan on our forum said he did a headcount second half and got 217. Definitely 200+

I can also confirm that there definitely more than 100 away fans at Eastleigh - roughly 170+. No idea where 100 came from.

Yeah that's ok, I'm sure there won't be any issues with you pulling your own figure out of thin air. :woot:

Can't say I spent the time counting them to be honest, I was too busy trying to find a seat in the away end that wasn't covered in bird shit

I have had a bit of a lurk on here for a while now but never really had any desire to share my thoughts. But I have to congratulate simonfromsurrey (and of course the forum nobhead) on such a well informed post. Wipe out the AFC Fylde Community Foundation, wipe out the Fylde Sports and Education Centre. Bollocks to the kids and the pensioners.

Who the feck does this bloke think he is. Making a few quid and putting it back into the local community, stick it in the Cayman Islands like the rest of the multi millionaires you selfish twat.

I don't really know Dave, just nodding terms really. I have been in his company a few times over a few pints but not for many years now. But those times were when I played for Kirkham and Wesham back in the 80s and he would very often be out in Kirkham on a Saturday night with the football lads. I don't think he ever played, either not very good or too busy making money. If I am honest he was, and no doubt still is, rather too brash for my liking, but he has a very strong belief that getting kids involved in sport is the best way to keep them on the straight and narrow.

Of course the football side of things is arguably the most important and I suspect the 2022 thing massages his rather large ego but there is far more to the AFC Fylde story. It will probably ultimately end in tears but it will be a great shame if that includes all the community stuff.
Stockport County, a team that draws crowds of 4-5,000, have struggled to sign anyone this summer because the players of sufficient calibre ask for wages much higher than we can afford due to the surfeit of hobby clubs at this level who would pay that money.

I'm sure the people involved in the ventures you mention are lovely people, and they do good work, but there's loads of non-League community groups who exactly that, except Fylde's get extra benefit from being attached to a vanity project that has a sorely detrimental effect on football as a whole. So yeah, sod 'em.

There are moments in life when you wonder about your friends. On Saturday when I offered to pick up a friend on the way to The Shay, he said, "do you think we should get there early, I've got a feeling Fylde are going to bring a lot of supporters". Now, he's not been well recently and i know he has a lot on his plate at the minute but this was the first time I thought early-onset senility was a possibility. It took a few moments of silence to process the question and formulate a reasonable response. "ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR FUCKING MIND?????" DO YOU KNOW ANYTHING AT ALL ABOUT THIS SHOWER??? NO! WE'RE NOT GETTING THERE EARLY! DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY THEY TOOK TO WEMBLEY FOR THE BIGGEST GAME IN THEIR HISTORY? HUH? DO YA? DO YA?"

He admitted he did not, and promised to do some research before asking such a stupid question in future.

Friends, huh guys? :ds:
That is a very believable story, apart from the bit about you having a friend.

Welcome to the forum, Mr Haythornthwaite!

Have you considered that you could run kids’ teams and organise pensioners’ days out without sticking a financially doped hobby club into the centre of it all, that then makes a false economy out of an already financially precarious non-league ecosystem?

Well done for not sitting on your capital in a tax haven for now, although I’m sure with New Kellamergh Park’s Brexit Party rallies you host, that you’re aiming to turn our island into another Cayman.

Bankroll one little club, to hell with the rest. Make loads of money and keep it within your hobbies, to hell with the rest of society. Pattern of behaviour right there.

The Barnet 100...given the games are segregated and the away fans have their own away end turnstiles, that's how 100 were accounted for... 100 of them came through those turnstiles...
I was bored at the game, but didn't count heads, that's for nerds, but 100 seemed about right.

It is 1/4 of their home support to be fair and the most they'll take away anywhere all season.
Nope. That's just a silly claim to make. We'll have beaten that twice by middle of September, again in November, December and January, and probably in March and April too.
Sorry. :ds:

Still think we won't beat that?

Wrexham to Halifax, 91 miles, Chesterfield to Halifax, 66 miles...... I know some who declined Wrexham because they'd be late back and they had work in the morning.....they don't have the same concerns this time.

Nottingham to Halifax, 61 miles...... It's a Saturday match........:ds:
