To be fair at least Notts never dissapoint the home fans on the trip to Field Mill

Strange derby really. No real animosity between the two clubs. I do remember Notts beating Mansfield at home, and I do remember us beating Stags away, but we are talking like 1997/8 here. Thats how long ago it's been

I guess some of the younger Notts fans probably do see Mansfield as a rival now? you can't realistically have one with forest any longer, it would be pointless.

Stags have sold 4k. Another 500 left.

Isn't that your biggest home attendance of the season?

Jokes aside, should make for a good atmosphere

500 left for who? Our allocation is 4,122.

Edit - seen the tweet, I’m not sure if the club will purchase another 500 to be honest///

Turns out County can’t release the tickets currently due to the police, they need approval. Let a club earn Nottinghamshire Police.

Disagree there's no animosity these days, in the 80s and 90s there wasn't really. When we last won this league in 97/98 there was only 6700 in attendance at ML, including about 1500 or so Mansfield.

For whatever reason it has definitely stepped up as a 'derby; since 2002 I would say, which was the first time Mansfield brought a proper big following (3k+) to ML and Iyesden Christie scored a deeply controversial last minute equaliser. Since then there has always been a huge police presence, I've seen both sets of fans kept apart quite a few occasions, and the reason the cops see fit to make both games a 12/1pm KO says something. And despite the early KO both sets of fans turn out in greater numbers than normal, home and away. You see it online, too, much more invective in the build up than normal.

Looking forward to it, anyway.

Even with the inevitable defeat or at best draw, even with the history of playing poorly in front of big crowds. There is no way you can’t look forward to this. The away end will be in impressive full voice, the stadium will look magnificent with twice as many in as usual.

Hopefully we won’t have the 4 or 5 smoke bomb/flare things thrown on the side of the pitch this time. Clubs only get into trouble for that sort of thing, and Mansfield really don’t need that after the Lincoln incident at the end of the game.

Agree there is definitely needle there and is far from ‘just another game’. I’ll look forward to it until we go 1-0 down and then you will hear the negativity come rolling down from the stands like an avalanche

It’s definitely had a lot more edge as a derby game than I can remember from last time we were in the same division. It’s only a couple of years ago that the police were happy for it to be played on a Friday night, there’d be absolutely no chance of that now.

First post on here but a long time reader.

I first went to ML to watch the Stags back in the 97/98 Season, the year County romped away with the division and had it won by March iirc. County won 1-0 as we played in our blue and brown centenary shirt. I remember it as I was only a nipper and my Dad took me. Me and the other kids spent all the build up to the game in a local pub, the Trent Navigator I believe and ripped up a few books of yellow pages into confetti. I also remember that Stags fans and County fans were mixing in the pub with relative peace until a glass went flying and smashed on the wall in front of me, chaos then ensued and the pub was closed. We then went to the turnstiles and were refused entry with the confetti with the stewards citing that we may set fire to the paper and throw it on. We were quite low down in the Kop, Darren Ward was getting dogs abuse from the Stags fans....'Darren Ward, what a wanker, what a wanker!'. One of my earliest Stags following memories.

I don't think we met in the league again until the 2002/03 Season. The needle came into that game from the fact Billy Dearden left us in the middle of our promotion season to keep County in the division above. Iyseden was so far offside I think he made his way into the penalty area from the kop. The reverse fixture that season was also quite tense, we were cruising 3-0 and County managed to get a couple back late on but we held on for the win. After that beating County has become the norm. The only time they have beaten us in the league since my initial memory was when we threw a 2-1 lead away one August bank holiday. Pilko broke Beardsley's leg and stayed on the pitch, Lawrie Dudfield condemned us to defeat I think.

The highlight of our meetings in my time was definitely the 5-0 game, a great day.
But to me Notts County are just a rival for the day. I have no ill feeling towards the club or the fans. I hope whatever the outcome of this season is, I hope we are in the same division next season. The Notts County away day is 2nd to none. Great boozers, a ridiculously swelled away following and a chance to catch up with folk that you wouldn't otherwise see unless we've drawn a big FA Cup tie or are off to Wembley.

I recognise a few posters from here from maybe a decade or so ago when I posted under another alias. JacobNCFC is definitely one of them.

As for the game Saturday, we are due a loss. I'd take a point now but it won't help either of us!

Welcome to the forum S42. Quite a long post for your first one! Enjoyed reading it though. I also think it will be 1-1, our 4th in a row!

I think a point wouldn’t be a bad result for either of us in the grand scheme of things.
We have lost 2 times at home. Playing 4-5-1, since Nolan has gone back to 4-4-2 and whilst unspectacular (Crewe aside) it works, so the teamsheet for Notts could decide what result it’s going to be before a ball is kicked!

Mansfield will be bang up for this , as they always are, because it’s their seasons Big Day Out.

We won’t, is mystifying but countless times we look like boys against men. Only last season in the dogged home draw under Nolan did we put up a decent fight in an extremely scrappy and competitive game.

With our record we should start favourites, but on paper Stags are better, history shows they always win or draw so I’m going for 2-1 away win.

Sadly

Hoping for 13000 in attendance to soften the blow

Hopefully you'll go 442 as it should be the same as us and it suits us much better when sides play like that.

We’ll definitely go 4-4-2, it’s just a question of whether it’s Ameobi or Alessandra alongside Stead, will be the former if his knees are working that day.

Only other questions for us really are whether Noble or Husin start in central midfield (probably Noble after his performance at FGR) and whether Dickinson or Jones start at left back.

Yeah. I think he has a lot of the time when people have thought it was 4-5-1, to be honest, but because he’s basically a winger playing out of position he tends to drop deeper.

Looking forward to our 'Big Day Out' on Saturday. Hoping to be at waterfront for 10am with a few Guinness for St Patrick! Will probably miss most of the first half as my bladder seems to have shrunk with age.

How have you counted down to our "big day out? Got balloons? Got a self made advent calendar? Some bunting maybe?

Or is just a day out in city round the corner where the beer is good, the county fans are good, and you never lose? It's a nice little city from Manchester, we'll head up to the trip (love the pub!) after the game out the way, sister lives in sherwood so free accom. Everyone's a winner

If only there was an example where 2.5 stands were full of Notts fans at Field Mill for a league game :ffs: Oh yeah there was. Albeit that was when Field Mill had 4 stands :brill: back in the 1990s. Wouldn’t happen nowadays obviously Radford wouldn’t allow it.

Oh and no need to bring balloons or bunting just bring friends , family and some forest fans who never normally attend Field Mill :2thumb:

Was going to put Draw in the Oak predicta but after all the stags fans saying that their form and they are due a loss etc.
Northstand slaps a joker on a Mansfield win.
The game is well and truely on. I have obliged with the same, Notts win + Joker.

I'm just hoping that we actually put a good performance in, the last three have not been very good at all. Eventually it does catch up with you, even if you do have a really good set of players like Mansfield.

The performance against Coventry was bizarre - a goal and a man up inside 20 minutes and you draw, the point against Lincoln - though they scored late was fair for them - only caught about 45 minutes in total of the Colchester game off Iplayer of a phone.

In short we've dropped 6 points from winning positions all at home in the last 3 games. It appears flitcroft wants to play the long ball which is a complete disaster with our set of players - if he keeps up with what he's done in the first 2 games were more likely to drop out of the playoffs than enter the top 3.

It's pretty simple, play 442, play passing football and press and with our players were more good enough. We've a better starting XI than county, and by some decent margin. However, Nolan has done wonders since he took over at county - they had playoff form last season and this season tells its own tale .

It'll be hard to beat county - they've only lost 2 at home (bettered only by us, having lost 1). It'll all go on a great goal, a red, a bad decision.

It's easy to get caught up in completely pointless arguments like this, but i'm not sure that your starting xi is THAT much better than ours. You've definitely got a much, much deeper and better squad (as the total mismatch in the Checkatrade showed when both teams made a raft of changes), but Grant, Hewitt, Tootle and Stead would all start for you I think and you could make a case for one or two more.
