Yeah Cov should have been 3 or 4 up at half time and Notts were lucky to go in 1 down. The decision were dreadful but you can't disagree that Cov entry were by far the better side.

Great quality comments from all corners for the footballing world on here, hope it doesn’t dramatically dip like often happens and shown in other play off thread

Coventry the better side but it's a different game when Forte scores... I back us to go on and win that. Then they go and score an offside goal.

You can't really make it up after the penalty decision in the last game.

Coventry have some real quality. McNulty too good for this level. We now need to get our summer recruitment right. Pace should be top of the list as we are very one dimensional.

Noble had another poor game

If you put yourself in his shoes and you see decisions 3 leading to goals in the tie go against you, would you praise the opposition? I don't think I could.

Seriously what do you expect three big goal decisions went against his side. I’m sure Fatty Fat Fat Evans and even David Handbrake Flitcroft would be the same.
He’s just praised cov for their performance 1st half tonight which is right

Coleman hit nail on head post match.

Overall very good season for those Stylish pies, now can we buy a quality exciting forward or 2!

Brilliant game.

I have been so critical of the team this season and the way we have played. So many games we've been bullied by teams who clearly know we struggle with the that extra bite.

Tonight, however, we stood up to it and gave it to County. Finally decisions going our way.

Huge shout to Biamou as well, the lad was playing non-league in Paris 3/4 years ago before going to Sutton. He has never played in games anywhere near this magnitude. The bloke is fucking superb.

The game itself was a brilliant advert for lower league football in England. The atmosphere was absolutely phenomenal from both sets of fans. Easily the best home support I've heard since the we were last in the Championship.

Decisions went our way over the 2 legs, but truth is we simply outclassed them over the 2 legs.

Hmmm totally outclassed in 1 half of 1 leg, very even imo in both halves at Ricoh (partly due to weather) but 2nd half until the wrongly given 3rd goal we were far the better side. Overall though deserved winners but not outclassed

Biamou was superb indeed

Well done Coventry, deserve some cheer after so many years of decline without even a play-off place.

Of the three FL play-off finals this looks to be the most intriguing pairing, and if the way Coventry played tonight is any indication should be a great advert for League 2 and less cagey than many a past final, so this might be the one I'll go to. Haven't decided where to sit though, either team going up will do me fine!

Actually feel a bit for Nolan tbh, whereas there was no doubting Coventry were much the better side on the night, small decisions like those that went against County can define seasons, and it's done just that - I think any manager down here would be going mental at the assistants with those decisions.

Still, league 2 will look much better with County and Lincoln in it next season which is a big relief

You had about a 20 minute spell in both matches tonight and at the Ricoh where the long ball and trying to win the second ball looked like it might pay off for you and you put us under pressure

The rest of the time we had you chasing shadows.

You get your usual 4 points from us that’s for sure , so I don’t blame ya.
Hope Exeter go up purely for financial reasons. Great to see such a large crowd at the Lane.

You thought you outclassed us in the first leg? Or looked a bit better?

Tbh Cov have a better side than us (all season) and probably better squad unsurprisingly yet we always seemed to be higher in the league performing better. Like I said earlier very talented but mentally dodgy / weak

If Coventry have outclassed us over the two legs then they should be very worried that the only difference between us was 3 objectively incorrect decisions.

Really absorbing both games and a shame the refs have ruined it. Great season for Notts, good luck to Coventry in the final.

Coventry in the first half reminded me of their performance in the second half at our place earlier in the season, which was the best 45 minutes from an opposition team at SB this season.

Us and Notts are similar in the way we play and both have been beaten by sides who have a bit more quality about them to be able to take games away from teams, like in the second legs.

Can't argue with any of that, more baffling is the fact that both Exeter and Coventry have many fans that want their managers out?!

Sorry, but the 'better team won' stuff is just bollocks. Coventry were superb for the opening half an hour tonight and we were dreadful. They deserved their 2-0 lead, fair enough. What happened after that was an absolute farce.

The Forte offside decision is the one. If that is allowed, we'd have all of the momentum and would be favourites to go on and win the tie. It's not even a close decision - he's comfortably onside. That they then break up the other end and score a goal that is offside almost immediately pretty much sums up the way the tie has gone, and that's without mentioning the ridiculous penalty and non red card after twenty minutes of the first leg.

I'm struggling to think of a comparable two-legged tie where four pretty obvious game changing decisions have all gone one way and all been wrong.

So the better team didn't win?

We got most of the decisions, yes (although your lad should have been sent off first half today for his head pushed into Mcnulty, Mcnulty does sort of push his head back but ends up missing and hitting fresh air so don't know how you want to interpret that bit)

Get good and you wouldn't have needed to feel aggrieved over referee decisions, concede 4 goals at home then you deserve to lose the match regardless.

I don't think you can say whether the better team won or not. The tie was turned into a complete farce by two sets of officials.

Maybe if we had won the first leg 1-0, as we deserved to, or we had got it back to 2-2 tonight, as we deserved to, Coventry would still have gone on to win the tie. But we'll never know - it was decided by two sets of officials who've made some of the worst decisions you'll have seen anywhere all season in the biggest games of the season.

It wasn't that you got 'most of the decisions', either, but that you got ones that changed the course of the tie and were objectively completely wrong and not particularly difficult. I mean even if we just strip it back to goals that should've stood it's at 3-3 over two legs and we've ended up losing 5-2, that's ridiculous.

I agree that Brisley should've gone, for what it's worth, but would say that's comparable to the Tom Davies one in the first leg that i'm not particularly pissed off about.

In defence of the ref for the Tom Davies one, it was one of them off the ball the incidents the the refs often simply don't see. Can't really blame the referee for missing it although if he does see it, it is obviously a red. Wouldn't say that was referee error as he simply didn't see it, and he can't give what he can't see. Its not like he seen the incident and decided it wasn't worthy of a red because then that would have been an error, and hence why retrospective action was able to be taken against the player.

The one today was right in front of the ref and linesman for everyone to see.

I think the linesman/ref realised that they was going to have to send off both of them if he did anything (as McNulty went for the headbutt back and missed) so decided that a yellow each was a better option.

I agree on the Davies thing fwiw, don't really blame the ref for that. It's the penalty at the Ricoh and the miles onside equaliser tonight that are a bit more difficult to get over.

Why haven't you mentioned the red card in the first half? Had McNulty gone down like 90% of footballs would have, it would have been a red.

Evens out with the elbow and foul on our keeper in the match a month ago.

By the law they both could've been sent off, thought Brisley was very lucky at the time not to be sent off particularly but looking back at it now I think what the ref did was probably fair enough.

I don't think it's really comparable to conceding an 87th minute penalty when you're 1-0 up away from home where the player cleanly gets the ball, then having an equaliser that would've swung the momentum of the entire tie disallowed despite it being comfortably onside, and then conceding a goal that finished the tie off that was somehow offside twice.

Why would McNulty be sent off?

Why would McNulty be sent off?

He decides to push his head back into Brisley's rather than going down. I don't think either of them really needed to be sent off mind, to be honest.

Don't really know why you lot are keeping on about it, to be honest. The officials managed to completely ruin the tie between them, but the result isn't going to change. Go out and get pissed or something.
