Sorry to disappoint any County fans wishing for some sort of trophy for winning a popular match thread on Stagsnet, I’ve just checked and I’m sorry to announce the Chesterfield thread has 5800 (739571 views) replies to the meagre 1747 (142798 views) for Notts County, it’s a fair representation of reality. To be fair.

For what it’s worth, the idea that Grant went missing for parts of last season or was anything other than superb for us is bollocks. He was never quite as appreciated as he should’ve been for us because of where he was on loan from.

It’s a shame that he’s back in this league because he’s too good for it, needs to get out of Forest permanently.

On the Boldewijn comparisons - they’re totally different players. If you could combine Enzio’s pace, power and dribbling with Grant’s end product you’d have a top Championship player at worst.

Conks is right, you patronise your rival or near neighbour who historically you are bigger and more importantly better than.

Forest do it to Notts, and Notts do it to Mansfield. And both clubs are right to do it.

1747 posts!?!?!! :ohm: Since when??? Jesus H Christ!!! How many posts and views has Mansfield’s main season thread got?

That’s madness! Coming up to 150,000 views from a set a fans who we are continually told that they aren’t bothered about, and don’t see us as a rival :fl:

In fairness chesterfield still try and laugh at us, despite being a good 42 places below us.

Oh don’t get me started mate!! I had a look at your gaff and the arrogance from a team bottom of the table is astonishing, my brain is hurting.

I don’t agree on Grant. For the second half of the season his performance levels dramatically dropped and he stopped scoring. Obviously he wasn’t the only one, but the others haven’t got his talent. That’s why he was dropped on more than one occasion. If he’s not scoring, there can be many games where he doesn’t contribute much else, hence “gone missing”. It would be churlish to say his overall contribution wasn’t anything but really good, but he must look at Ryan Yates starting Championship games and wonder why that isn’t him.

No one has said Enzio and Grant are similar players, but they’re both very talented for this level and it’ll be interesting to see who affects the game on Saturday.

I think that the stopped scoring thing is a bit harsh - there’s no way a midfielder was going to be able to keep up that level of scoring for a whole season. He was still easily our most creative player and always put a shift in IMO.

I think if anything Boldewijn is much more inconsistent, but when he’s on it he’s that horrible word - ‘unplayable’.

Also going to stick my neck out and say that Grant has more chance of making it as a Championship player long term than Ryan Yates. ;)

Blimey Jacob, Yates was MOTM for Forest on Saturday, Grants never going to make the first team, he's at least a division, maybe two behind him.
Yates is a monster, box to box midfielder or a holding midfielder, powerful and versatile and O'Neill will love a player like him, he's liable to keep on improving because he has all the attributes needed to move up.
Grant did great for us and has had a great start at Mansfield but a robust full back can mark him right out a game. Take away his set piece skill and he can be anonymous at times, that Luton looked beyond him when his loan was up rather than trying to extend it is telling.

It’s a bit of both viewpoints imo. I agree doesn’t need to score to contribute. He’s definitely too good for L2, but not championship so by reckoning he’s s L1 player currently.

In a good confident side like Mansfield he will shine brighter than most but once things turn against the team, his performances in the 2nd half dropped considerably and was rightly dropped on a few occasions. Saying that I was always disappointed when he wasn’t on the teamsheet cos he can do magical things.

Yates clearly over Grant last season, and even moreso this season.

The last 2 games at meadow lane have been draws and I don’t think either side would secretly have a problem with that, Notts seem to actually have some decent players now and should be unrecognisable to the hopeless riff raff that turned up at field mill, but likewise, we’ve beaten sides much better than county this season and if we turn up and play how we can....

Hopefully for once the police will see common sense and not cause trouble - it’s ironic that the police seem to think there’s something there between the 2 clubs, just let folk enjoy the day and hopefully the football.

In a side note these 1pm KOs with seemingly any club in the East Midlands are turning out to be quite useful, unbeaten in all 11 since they were introduced! Cheers!

There wasn’t much in it but I actually thought we deserved to win last seasons game at Meadow Lane until the injury penalty decision which came completely out of the blue , it didn’t look like the Stags would ever score that day in the snow .

On the other hand the season before, Nolan’s first game we were lucky to get a point following a battling display and a shocking miss from an ex-pie .

It’s the fans that often cause the trouble rather than the police , I’ve seen it with own eyes along London and County road last couple of seasons .

I wonder what the flares set off and thrown onto the pitch score will be this season ?

My only issue with Ritchie was that someone needed to tell him to stop shooting all the time, Rafa’s sorted him out moving him to left back. ;)

And despite them being in threat of relegation to a regional level of English football I still hate them. A lot.

We need to show up on Saturday and find a way to win if we are serious about potentially chasing the title all the way, I mean if we don’t a lot of twist and turns are yet to happen but it’s gunna be a lot more difficult.

Agree with Conks, If we’ve got hopes of the title then we need to win this one and keep the pressure on.

It’ll be a battle and a half, Notts are going to try and stop us playing our Man City esque style so we need abit of quality from set pieces. I’ll be a lot more confident if Ben Turner is going to be fit and play. If we end up with Jones/Benning out of position playing centre back then that worries me.

And just read that the game this weekend will come too early for Turner. For fuck sake. I’d be very surprised if Flitcroft changed the formation so that means a full back will end up playing centre half.

Rose out for six weeks too, I know he’s not playing but that means we have no different options from the bench for upfront either.

I’m hoping county come at us and play football, do that and well probably win - the odds are we’ll be better - the players both sides have and the league position shows that - do a Yeovil where they close us down from the back, give us no time on the ball abs time waste and there’s a good chance they’ll get something.

On a separate note - Carlisle play MK Exeter play bury that day, so any win would be really big on extending the gap

Who plays LWB in that then? I’ve always been impressed by Benning there - would be happy to see him move to CB.

Some of our best defensive performances this season have come from players playing out of position in defence. Reece Hall-Johnson has been so good recently that he's well on the way to being fully converted from an attacking full back to a centre back.

We've had a succession of horrendous full back performances all season from various people so have resorted to playing Mitch Rose and Rob Milsom there. Early days, but they've been great.

Mitch Rose at RB? He put in absolute shift and a half at Palace at RB. Probably his best game all season. Kept Zaha in check all game.

It looks as though Ardley has signed him as a right back - mentioned he could play there in his interview when we signed him and has chucked him straight in rather than putting him in midfield.

Might change long term as we still have Matt Tootle who was one of the better players in the league last season but been constantly injured this year, but a promising start for sure.
