Interesting question on this, would you actually say we are a terrible team or just massively lacking in confidence at the moment?

With the same squad we were comfortable and amased 28 points first half of the season so what’s changed in your view?

Most would agree what it’s better man for man than last season in terms of the squad for instance?

The goalkeeper I certainly agree is better and also Leon Legge (when he gets picked). The problem with the team is the midfield has the same failings it did when Pugh and Tonge were playing almost perpetual slow motion last season. The strikeforce is basically Pope or bust and he clearly shouldn't be playing right now. The others have given us no better than what we got from Anton Forrester. It is noticeable however the confidence of this team is extremely fragile. The moment we fall behind its panic stations (Morecambe being a classic example) and we haven't turned a game round in a very long time is proof of that. Basically its a combination of both being awful and low confidence.

I feel the midfield issue is playing Kay, not that he is a bad player for example but he came in when we panned Yeovil away 3-0 since then we've won 1 league game...

The issue I see there is that whilst he is a good foil it just slows us down so much, he is a sideways, backwards man and slowing us down... add to that we then need an extra central midfielder to cover his lack of legs and you then take away from someone attacking.

If we look at the bare facts we've won 4 league games Kay has been involved in over 14 months (and he didn't start 1 of those).

Going 4-4-2 with Manny back last week would have been better had Kay not been playing as then your asking Manny to be his legs as well! Manny and Conlon worked well when we picked up 16 points in 11 games only 3 of which ended in defeat.

I don't get why we haven't reverted back to what worked in the Autumn in this situation, worth a try surely... Miller and Pope up top, Ben out wide, Legge at the back bossing it.

No idea how this week’s events will affect the team on Saturday. Financial uncertainty seemed to do us good in 2009/10, not so much in 2016/17.

If we play like we did against Lincoln and Mansfield we’ll win, if like against Newport we’ll lose. Hopefully a full week without a game will do our owd codgers a bit of good.

It certainly can’t help matters especially the manager who has basically been lied to his face

Todays developments up the ante from our side off the field with the protests... wonder if either or both Norman and Hardy will be there tomorrow? At least they can face it together.

Anyone else feel a bit sick?

Yep, this is going to be torture today whoever wins. Either way so long as it’s not at our expense wish Notts all the best after today.

Kept busy, even dreading the stress of it all week. Setting off at 12.20 via Maccies as haven’t eaten yet.

It’s a bloody big one.

Hope we both survive come May but today we could either put a large gap back or be in royally deep shit.

Samaritans would make a killing if they put a tent up outside today!

Purple Army!

I’m here! Hoping for 1200 plus Valiants to roar the lads home/concede a sloppy goal and huff and puff and lose 1-0 in typical Vale fashion.

Fully fit squad apparently. Must see more from Manny today assuming he starts.

Anthony Kay is dropped!

Disappointed Whits isn’t starting but looks like we are cramming the midfield with Joyce, Oyeleke and Conlon in the centre and assume Worrall and Hannnat wide.

Legge starting is wise against Stead’s height.

Would love to have seen Ben start but assuming by this we are pumping balls aerially into the box!

I was happy with it until I saw Gibbo out. Not even sure what the line up is? Could be three at the back with Clarke wing back? But then who’s the second striker.

Bench looks strong but rather go for the jugular!

Should be out of sight and ultimately that’s why we are struggling.

Dominant half played mostly in the Notts half but not done enough although the keeper made two fine saves.

Notts are very physical and leaving some in yet the referee has failed to book one! The keeper “tackle” on Wozza was bizarre. It’s from behind yet no foul!

Lots of huff and puff from both sides but no real quality. Kinda what you’d expect I’d guess.

Good atmosphere from both sets of supporters though.

We’ve basically loaded the midfield to take advantage of their old legs in there.

Wozza having a good game. Got our customary goal ruled out although think this on was right... should have buried the first header though.

Hope we don’t rue this.

He’s played well, still not sure what’s Joyce is bringing to this lineup though. If he tempted on the hour get Monty on the other flank and try and stretch them more if we can see out the opening 15 minutes.

Gutted! Missed a hatful of chances and good ones at that. Notts will be thrilled to get a point out of that!

We met some Vale fans in our local before the game and all agreed 0-0. Not helpful to either side really. A feeling of inevitability about it.

Time will tell whether that’s a point gained or two lost but I can’t fault the effort today. Probably should have won but age old issue of no quality in the final third.

We should have won but the ugly problem is that we couldn't put it in the onion bag. On paper Notts side looks a good one, but their confidence is at rock bottom. If Vale can be the dominant team in a game then you've got problems...

Only other thing I’d say today is people keep saying Popes problem is lack of service. Well he had a couple of glorious chances today and failed to hit the target. That one is wearing a little thin with me. Thought Worrall was superb, put in a great shift and Leon at the back was rock solid.

Horrendous from us, Vale should have won, Pope a real handful up top on his own, thought Oyeleke was good in midfield and the lad at LB/LWB gave us the run around, especially 2nd half.

Vale fans decent, subdued atmos from us but not surprising given the events of the past week.

Looking bleak for us again now after the wins v FGR and Stags, if we don’t beat Cheltenham next week that probably is goodnight Irene. We looked a bit like a relegated side today.

Simply can't score, my slight hope is that County were hideous how on Earth did they get 7/9 recently.
Any decent team wins that 2-0 at a canter.
Two shocking teams

To be honest I thought your fans in the Kop helped make a decent atmosphere. Basically both sets of supporters deserve a hell of a lot better than what we’ve had on and off the field. Wish you all the best and as I say so long as not at our expense hope you guys can get out of trouble.

Thought Notts looked a lot like we do at home, just absolutely terrified whenever in possession and inevitably just gave it away as a result.

It was one of those (again) dominated, had chances but can’t finish. Popey doesn’t usually miss those mind (the header early second half!) soon as it came across and he headed back across the keeper I was ready to jump up!

Today sums up why both teams are where they are...

Notts were pretty terrible throughout the side and didn’t seem to have anything about them. They’ve signed some alright players but are all old so put some legs against that midfield and you can easily over run it. Taking Kay out and putting three against o Brien and Doyle and it just over ran them (takes sum going to get over run by our midfield!)

Thier lad Rose got murdered by Hannant who isn’t exactly in form lately... They just need some legs. The lad Gomis ran around a bit but couldn’t pass for toffee.

Stead was like Pope out of form.

Vale on the other hand... we’ve got some plus points, our defence is decent and with Manny back we look better in midfield but we can’t score and today and the Morecambe loss sums up why we are where we are. We’ve battered them at times and missed headers, keepers made two good saves, their defender has got a toe on one and Manny has driven a shot wide when he had enough time to take a touch and drill it home!

It’s just not going for us at the moment and Pope needs that goal, I don’t know if it’s the fact it will be his 100th weighing on him or what? He buries those chances if that game is played in September!

Atmosphere was decent, always a good away day Notts, behind their goal made some good noise and didn’t see any trouble or issues.

Hopefully we can both somehow stay up as we deserve better!
