For those of you that don't know, latics are in talks about investment which would see a Dubai based football agent named abdallah Lemsagam take a majority share of the club. From the outset this looks like a very dodgy deal.

Pre season most latics fans were optimistic of a decent season by our standards. Maybe a top half finish. We needed 1 or 2 more additions to make this possible but we still had 3 or 4 weeks to make it happen before our first game.

The transfer activity came to a grinding half however, and I don't think we have been able to name a full bench all season yet. We have lost every game and sit joint bottom of the pile.

Most of what has come out so far is unsubstantiated rumour, but it's said that:

●Abdallah wants to take a 70% stake in the club while corney keeps 27% to remain as chairman. (3% belong to the trust)
●Abdallah is intending to flood the club with trialists and loanees from abroad he is aware of and 6 or 7 current players have already been told to find a new club. We named 3 subs on sat. Those not involved have no future here.
●Sheridan will be sacked and Abdallah will bring in his own man. He wants a high profile boss and it's rumoured to be Brian Kidd

There are plenty more rumours floating about but they seem to be the ones most repeated from different sources.

To me it sounds very similar to the situation port vale found themselves in last year with a team full of foreigners who didn't have a clue how to play the English game. With very little time left before the window shuts we seem to be pressing the self district button yet again and this may well be the year we go down

Or it all might actually work and we run away with the title after giving Peterborough a 12 point head start but I doubt it somehow.

Sounds like this Abdallah lad is going to flood the Oldham team with nobodies hoping that a few of them can be sold on for some cash which will be funnelled back to Dubai as a "Management Fee / Finders Fee" or something equally disgusting, and then the next batch of nobodies can arrive for the same cycle.

The FA will of course allow this through due to their incompetence and undoubtedly a few brown envelopes trading hands. Guardians of the game? Dirty whores looking for their next pay out.

Sounds eerily similar to what happened here when the Belgians took over.

That turned out well.

Enjoy Walter Zenga.

That really doesn't sound good. You'll need some serious good luck if Brian Kidd as your manager as he isn't one (clearly a good no.2 though).

It isn't as if Sheridan is any better. He brought Notts County last season to the relegation spots in League Two and verbally abused a number of refs during the Boxing Day games before being sacked. His successor was able to bring them up to 15th.

In what universe is Brian Kidd a high profile manager? Doesn't sound no great, how much trouble are you in if Corney rejected this?

Dale fans will be frothing at the mouth at hearing this.

In fairness something has to change at Oldham, think since 2009 they've finished no higher than 15th and no lower than 19th every season. You'd get away with that in the Championship and it's similar to finishing 13th and 17th in the Prem which a lot of those clubs set down to do, but it's certainly not acceptable at this level. There just seems to be no ambition to take the club forward and they seem happy to settle for it every year. Very much a side who rip it up and start again every year, no longevity, no saleable assets and no clear direction to take them forward. Without John Sheridan the last two years, who knows where they would've been right now?

I also believe it's £420 for a season ticket at Oldham too for adults if they don't buy early. How can you entice adults in an area full of Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool fans with such awful pricing? This club was a very successful club a generation ago but ever since the 1990s, bar a season when they shit or busted it when we went up in 2002-03, they've wallowed in this division and never looked like getting out of it the right way. They've been incredibly fortunate there's been an exceptional level of dross in League One over the last few years which has propped them up.

The thing is, whoring the football club out to a football agent is a desperate attempt to stop the status quo and it'll almost certainly backfire like it did Doncaster in the Championship. I feel for Oldham, but cannot help but possibly think if they were to drop this year they'd find life in the lower division very tough next season. Could be the case of another Tranmere situation...

Good luck to Oldham sounds like you're gonna need it going off these rumours... Corney gets a lot of stick for lack of ambition but at least he gives you stability...

It's ironic we have just played port vale in the shit cup cos it reminds me of what went on there. Flooding the team with incompetent foreigners

All coming in today supposedly, along with a few foreigners. Apparently though we are setting up a development squad for most trialists to impress in with the hope of getting into the first team.

Odd, I know.

If that goes ahead I think this will be the season Oldham finally change divisions. Vale found out last year that Swedish 3rd division players aren't actually very good

No frothing here, nothing against the Latics (or Bury for that matter).

Hope it works out OK for them, but, as others have said, there seems to be an eerie resemblance to Vale - albeit without the oatcakes!

Obviously not part of the Rochdale mafia then.

Kudos.

The signings have started. 2 unpronouncibles signed up today and more expected. Both look like they have done the tour of Europe's lower leagues

This sounds all too familiar.

No doubt Sheridan has no idea who these players are, will complain about it because they will inevitably not be good enough, lose his job and will be replaced by some unknown who will do no better.

Wish you luck but if it's anything like the Belgian experiment here, it's going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

Latest recruit is Queensy Menig.

Ex Ajax youth, capped by Holland at every level from U16-U21, and scored 15 in 66 for FC Zwolle from midfield. Ranieri's Nantes' have just signed him and loaned him out for the season.

Unlike the other two signed today, this guy looks to have some very good pedigree.

Well this is all very interesting.

On the face of it:
Nepomuceno 6/10
Omrani 3/10
Queensy Menig 9/10

I love you Queensy Menig.

I'm going to have to echo those words from Bobbin.

As most of you all know, we was only here 3 seasons ago and we went down a very similar route with our Italian owners, which quite frankly in short turned into a shambles, although the player recruitment was just the tip of the Iceberg.

I wish Oldham the best of luck.

Of all the examples I can think of from the the top of my head of this sort of strategy, the only success story is Watford.

For the likes of ourselves, Orient and Port Vale etc it has ended in relegation (2 relegations in your case).

Unfortunately for Oldham, this sounds more like our situations. Watford were bringing in players from Udinese in Serie A. This just looks more like an influx of players who have been rattling around in lower leagues across Europe. If it's anything like our situation, it just upsets the manager and the players already there.

Swansea had that core of British players though in fairness. Monk-Tate-Williams were with Rangel at the back. Britton-Allen-Pratley in midfield and Sinclair and Dyer on the wings. They did have some foreigners but the core was British.

Huddersfield it worked because the manager knew who was coming in and they were his key transfer targets rather than an Oldham situation where Sheridan won't know a single one of these players at all. I'm sure it's a good method if your manager or scouts have a genuine knowledge of the Continent but, in the case of Oldham, this is a debt-ridden and painfully stagnant club pimping itself to an agent who will make a decent wedge shipping some of his and his mates clients to play for the club. It's a total recipe for disaster like it was at Vale Park and they're still suffering from the effects of being an agents plaything a season on...

But then we are getting into the incompetent implementation of a strategy, rather than a problem with the strategy itself. More incompetent teams get relegated with English players than foreign players.

I fully accept it's higher risk and harder to get right, but I don't think it's fair to ignore the times it works

I understand the concerns and am partially sceptical myself. However we have, as mentioned earlier, been stagnant for so long that something has to give. So far the signs aren't overwhelmingly negative and the fans in general seem more intrigued as to what could become of it.

One thing's for sure - we couldn't stay as we have been forever. On paper, we've signed some reasonable players so for now I'll back it and am prepared to enter a new era with cautious optimism.

Yeah, there has been a lot of speculation so far, when there isn't much we know for sure.

He might not be popular, but Simon Corney is nobody's fool. He cares about the future of the club, and won't sell to anyone who puts that future in jeopardy. I hope anyway.

Richard Murray is a Charlton fan, had the club's interests at heart and saved the club from the brink. 20 years later he was the Belgian's puppet.
Not saying it will be the same for Oldham, but just warning to not be naive.
