Oldham away. They might be this year’s basket case relegation contenders, but we have a fairly unfavourable record at Ice Station Zebra and no idea how to defend. Might have a fiver on 2-2.

Historically Mansfield have had little bother in dispatching tranmere at field mill, and we’d start as expected favourites here.

despite claiming otherwise, they were “relegated” to league 2 somewhat harshly and like Mansfield will be aiming to finish top 7.

the great benefit of tranmere away next spring means an away weekend in Liverpool (planning on going whether fans are allowed in either way).

Your not allowed to say that “R” word in Birkenhead, it’s against the law. You can say voted out or demoted but not that.

Your right about Liverpool though, great city to visit.

Already been there, done that, they officially relegated. End of. No ifs no buts, they were relegated. Again harshly and if I were a tranmere fan I’d be pissed, but it is what it is.

They’ll be some sides up there this season - Bolton and Salford are the ones the press like purely through reputation, port vale should do well, FG will also, Mansfield will be back up there, Cheltenham and Exeter will press their case, as will Bradford.

I genuinely think Mansfield are in for a real slow start, think I would take a point against Tranmere myself.

basket case is the owner for sure. We have made some very good signings Davis Keillor Dunn has scored 4 in 4. And looks to have something about him Mcaleny could be one of the best signings of the season our recruitment policy this season is a lot different no French 3rd division trialist in sight atm So I feel and think a top half season may be on the cards we could’ve this seasons surprise package or it could all go tits up knowing our owner

After Stevenage's showing yesterday they will most likely come up here and get a result. Our forum will go into meltdown.

We’re in for a hell of a slow start because our club inexplicably hasn’t been arsed to organise any pre-season friendlies, absolute field day coming for our first few opponents.

Why, did they forget or have they been actually been playing top secret games that no one knows about?

You need to get games into players or they wont be match sharp. Holloway is no idiot, he'll know that surely.

Fuck knows. Holloway said he was having trouble arranging fixtures? Somewhat worrying. As far as I'm aware we've played two teams of trialists (we don't know the scores of these games I don't think) and we beat Clee Town 3-0. I think it was Luke Imp that pointed out that a lot of non-league teams might not have started having friendlies yet. We usually play three or four local non-league sides and then Donny and another localish L1/Championship side.

Surely it can't be that hard to arrange friendlies? There's enough teams around that need games. All the non league sides around here have been playing friendlies for a few weeks now.

When we played Yate and Melksham more then two weeks ago it wasn't even their first games.

That Bolton midfield three seems very attacking, can see them getting caught out on the counter if they go with that.

agree to some extent the plan is one of the three centre halfs to step into midfield
Rather one of Darcy /white to come into midfield give us more stability and energy, but the will be options on how Evatt can play

is that a honest view he played right back for you 12 times another three from the bench....you finished 4th
He then went to Carlisle and was one of there better players and you dropped down to 23rd i think
Was he worse than the right back you had last season

Mansfield v Tranmere and Vale v Crawley look like the best matches of this opening set. Are Crawley dark horses or are people expecting them to do well? I reckon they'll be in and around the playoffs. Despite losing Palmer and that lad to Blackpool, they've done some good business.

Scunny v Newport already looks like a dull slog of a game, so expect that one to now be 5-4 or something now I've said that.

We're a bit of a wild card and I'm not well versed in Walsall, so anything could happen there. Could do with three points as our next four games are savage.

Walsall and Crawley are my potential dark horses, probably more so Walsall.

we finished 21st, and yes we have better than him last season and still do now, at least for the RWB role we would play him in.

Crawley have lost their top two goalscorers and replaced them with a striker from National South and a kid from Reading academy. Nadesan will score goals but unless we get another striker capable of getting fifteen goals a season we will be mid table at best.

Yeah it's a strange one for me as well to be fair. LWB both options have loads of pace and athleticism, really excited to see them run at people and create, then you look at our RWBs and one is a steady full back and the other is a scrote that got released by Cov and played a few games at non-league level.

Personally I am really concerned about our start and can see us bottom with no points after 5 games, but progressively getting better as the season goes on.

I am a glass half empty type so hope I am off the mark, but late signings and lack of pre season games does not make me confident in the short term, although I have every confidence Holloway will pull us up going forward.

Yeah I was saying that to mate recently, that we may well not pick up a point in those first five games.

He's a very different player to the one Mansfield released. Not sure really how you lot managed to get so little out of him but presume he was in Dempsters squad.

He came in towards the end of the season we bottled automatic promotion WHEN Haydn White suffered a leg break. He was average at best, Think his best game was Morecambe at home but they were terrible anyway. Week or so later Oldham away Bank Hol Mon, 3 games from the end about 5 points needed for top 3 and Jones was so so bad until he knocked himself out on the post and seemed to steady himself then, game was gone though

PS I am better than last seasons right back

We didn’t release him, he came in January on loan from Fleetwood to replace the injured Haydn White, he literally joined a team on absolute fire in the top three lol and the manager was Flitcroft.

I’m sure he did okay for Carlisle, but he wasn’t good enough for Mansfield at RWB for a promotion run and I doubt he will be for Bolton in that position either, like mentioned he doesn’t have the pace.

Solid enough RB I suppose but there’s plenty better in this division.

I'm sure there are better right backs around but I can see Jones fitting into a top three team. It's a bit unfair to judge him on a loan spell when the team were on form before he joined.

The fact you keep picking up on his pace as a weakness and the fact that he replaced Haydn White in your team kind of fit together. Sounds like you tried to bring in a replacement for one of the fastest defenders in the league and didn't change your style of play to reflect the loss in pace; that's not the player's fault. It would be like replacing Peter Crouch in your team with Michael Owen and then complaining that nobody's getting on the end of the headers.
