Can’t pretend I know too much about Conlon but I note he was signed from Stevenage? Was it a free transfer? If so, it just shows there are some absolute bargains out there. Same with Mullin who would have been long odds for the golden boot winner…

It highlights the need for excellent scouting rather than throwing money at players who will command big wages.

Conlon was a bit unfortunate with us. Signed under Westley as a youngster, played a few times and looked to have something about him but wasn't physically ready according to GW. He broke into the side more regularly the following season and was developing well, unfortunately at the start of his third season with his he did his knee and was out for about a year. Sarll (manager at the time) clearly rated him as we offered an extra year even with the injury, he came back to play a handful of games after his injury, was sent out on loan and then was released by Maamria after Sarll was given the boot.

Glad he's doing well for Vale, was a real shame that he didn't fully establish himself here, think the injury killed the chances of that happening and the change of manager.

We’re being linked with both Lloyd Jones and Ryan Watson, Watson I believe is from Crewe. Must have been one that slipped the net for us as a kid. Are they any good cobblers fans?
Lloyd Jones is good. We got him because he was out of work for so long on a short-term and was ready to sign for pennies and to get fit, think he'll end up in League one, but I wouldn't be surprised if bigger fish in League One than Crewe also had an eye on him. Watson is a decent League two defender who chips in with goals from the edge of the box, but his goal scoring record sort of masks that he lacks in all other areas to be a solid League one pic. There were two out of only three players who were offered new contracts this year from the out of contract lot.

You can have Cian Bolger if you want as well. Thankfully turned down the choice to exercise an option in his contract to stay another year.

Of those you offered contracts to Haynes would be a big one I’d have thought. During the playoff final you looked most dangerous when he was able to come forward and was putting some decent quality into the box.

Shame for Howkins, when we had him on loan the first time thought he had the potential to go on and play at least L1 level but for whatever reason just not developed.

Howkins has been out on loan all season at solihull and by all accounts has'nt played much there, just one of those players flynn did'nt fancy.
As for haynes he could be off! maybe thats why we signed the lad norman from walsall.

Howkins was completely undone by our change to playing the ball out from the back midway through his contract when he's an old-fashioned big lump centre-half. It was noticeable early in the season that Barrow pressed our other two CBs but were very happy for the back-to-front distribution to go through him. I don't think he played again.

Not wrong there, guess it allows them to completely rebuild the squad for next season without having to worry about it being bloated by players not completely up to the jump in division...though I do accept this is a bit of a statement of the bleeding obvious...challenging maybe but perhaps not a bad position to be in.

If you’ve got a limited budget like Morecambe have then it’s going to be par for the course I’d have thought to have them on shorter contracts. Means they’re not bogged down with players on deals they can’t get out of and from the players perspective it’s a case of take less money on a shorter deal to put yourself in the shop window for a better one down the line.

O’Sullivan would be a useful addition for a team in this division. Halstead as well had one of the best games I’ve ever seen a keeper have against us a couple of years ago. Not sure if that was just an outlier in his case though.

Year in and Out with us battling Relegation dropping into Non-league was looking likely Under Bentley each passing season so wouldnt want to tie players when they may not be up to par to get out of that hell hole, Plus We've been in talks with the players since Derek Left so who knows we're moving fast as much as possible plus if it was Hill the Chairmen wouldnt be staying behind looking through applicants

Coming to a League 2 club???

James Hesketh, who was on loan at Crawley last season, has been released by Southampton.

Too good for league 2 but, because of his dodgy hamstrings, he will struggle to get a club much higher.

Lewis Thomas and Taylor Allen have signed new deals.

No surprise, both young lads who weren’t likely to get better offers elsewhere, in Thomas’ case he has played a fair amount of games in goal for us, very good with his feet but needs to command his box better.Allen seems to be a jack of all trades, has played everywhere other then in goal, mainly in cup games, and has spent most of the past two years out on loan.

Still waiting to see what happens with Godwin-Malife and Collins.

Might as well put it in here as they will only be going to league 2 or lower. Take your pic chaps. Do Vale need a keeper still? Your man Halstead has left.

Not surprised at that list, the only one I'm shocked at is us offering Mellor a new deal. Cooney was streets ahead of him in my opinion.

Time to crack on with the rebuild now, all the best for next season everyone!

Pierce Sweeney has rejected our contract offer and is probably odds on to join Stevenage with his best mate Jake Taylor.

He’d be a good signing for anyone at this level. Good luck to him.

I think we might be announcing him as a signing today from what I have heard. You must have offered him buttons if he's coming to us!

Ah ok, fair enough. Yeah I get the feeling our offer may have been on reduced terms, so can’t blame him.

He’ll be a solid player for you. Better at CB than RB despite not being the tallest. Decent right foot too and will chip in with a few goals, which is handy for a defender.

Cheers, now confirmed.

Sounds like we are going to play him at RB from what McGreal has said.

He had a good spell at RB for us but just seemed to lose his way a bit. He got switched to CB this season and was much better. I’d say he’s best playing the right side of a back 3.

As I said, he’s got a good right foot so if he can get forward from RB he will set up quite a few chances with his crossing. The biggest problem he has is that he can get exposed for pace a bit, but not all the time.

All in all, he’s a decent signing for you.

Thanks Moomin, I'm pretty happy with this signing. Over 200 games for you so he must be half decent. :)
