Jay Lynch (reasonably competent goalie) and Stephen Dooley (curates egg of a winger/midfielder) have accepted new one year deals at Rochdale. Still waiting to hear from the others.

We are still waiting to hear news on 3 players. Blacket-Taylor, Woolery and Otis Khan. I would personally like to keep all 3 but would be very surprised if we did.

We’re only waiting on Lewis Page now. L1 standard left back and from London so I can see him moving to someone like Wimbledon or Gillingham if they need players in that position. The only reason we had him last season is because of his shocking injury record at Charlton, but he played over 30 games for us, so he seems to be over his problems.

Orient seem to be having a strong recruitment drive so he may well interest them too.

Woolery seemed to take an age when we offered him a deal before he signed for Tranmere. So he seems to have previous for angling for as good a deal as he can which of course is his right.

I don't think he is good enough for league one. Will probably end up at some league two outfit like Taylor and Sweeney

We have 2 left backs now, Conor Wood was signed from Bradford and we have a youngster in Shadrach Ogie whom will battle for our left back spot next season. Every chance we looked at Page though.

Matt Done has also signed on for another year. Can play anywhere on the left or up front. Getting on a bit but a more than useful option.

And another one confirmed - Eoghan O'Connell signs on for another year. Excellent news, more than capable at L1 level - been our best (and occasionally only) defender for the last 2 years.

We've only got 5 contracted for next season and that includes 2 youngsters and a winger signed from FC Halifax who played about one game then never seen again. We've got options on some for another year though.

Lots of work to do for us as they'll be asking to be paid what they're (rightly) worth. We did everything on the cheap last season so we'll need a significant budget increase to be competitive.

Josh McDonald and his agent have played a blinder here, the lad has featured in about 7 minutes of play so far in his Pools career and now finds himself in the EFL.

I'm hopeful we keep most of this starting 11 together but having Challinor tied down is paramount.

Just from the outside looking in this seems like it’s going to be one hell of a job for Hartlepool in terms of the turnaround to next season. Vale are returning for pre-season training this week by comparison so that’s a lot of stuff to get through including the retained list and recruitment.

We're in pre season training next week. The players have been given a week off on the sesh.

Could work in our favour in one way though, they won't be rusty, team already gelled (if we keep them) match sharpness etc etc. But we could seriously run out of steam later on and run into injuries. Like I said this year I'll be happy just to stay up without a dogfight.

Frustrating player, whose form varied from Roberto Carlos-esque to "what am I supposed to do with this round thing?" on a random weekly basis during his time with Dale. Like him, because he always put a shift in, even on his crap days.

One week off is crazy stuff considering the length of the NL season we’ve just had. You’d surely be better off accepting a slow start and at least leaving it a bit longer!?!

Really depends though on what they’re going to be doing I suppose. If it’s just stuff like bleep tests etc I doubt that would be too onerous as with it being their paid profession would imagine most would be trying to keep some level of fitness even if they had a break.

It is what it is, not sure how rigorous our pre season will be.

That’s mental. As you say, you could run out of steam but time come the winter. I still expect you to have more than enough to stay up, though.

If we keep the majority of the starting XI we should be fine, we are very well drilled and can play a bit. A lot depends on what kind of new contracts we can offer. From what I hear most want to stay as they've said its the happiest they've been in football playing here. But we'll need a bigger squad as the lack of time off could be an issue.

That was what happened with Harrogate last season - carried over the momentum and started well, but by spring they were getting dragged down the table.

the main thing it depends on is keeping DC - if he goes you'll be deep in the shit.... you'll be in the same place we were when Evatt jumped ship to Bolton last summer. you lose 2+ weeks getting a new manager in, then you're panicking getting players in whilst trying to keep hold of the ones you want to stay

I'm pretty confident we'll keep him. Raj hinted he's sitting down over a new contract with him. Challinor would be stupid to leave really. He's unproven at this level and he'll be wanting to show that he can kick on.

I'm confident he's going nowhere now, he's talking about the released list, getting new contracts to players dished out, speaking to agents about new players.

one week is a bit short - but it depends on the player. Mark Ellis had 1 week off doing nothing - then was back out running again making sure he is fit for when out training starts at the start of July

Momentum is key and Hartlepool's situation has more benefits than cons. We had none going into last season, hadn't played for best part of 6 months, lost our manager and key player, and was compounded by shit managerial appointments and recruitment.

I suspect Matt Done at Dale and Ian Henderson at Sal£ord will have been doing something similar to ensure they're full fit for pre-season. Probably a lot of others as well up and down the country.

r.e. pre-season, don't footballers *have* to have at least two weeks off before heading back into pre-season training? I'm pretty sure that's the case at PL level, it's in their contracts from a welfare point of view rather than them putting it in themselves. It's a standard clause.

Two of our out-of-contracts are settled. Liam Shephard has gone to Salford and Aaron Lewis has signed for two years. Given they were to a certain extent competing for one place, although both can play more than one position, I'm pleased it's that way round.

Shep got a really good reception when he returned to TNL for the play-off semi-final, well respected by Rovers fans, pity he has gone to Salford!
