It would be nice if that was the case but he walked away from Velencia when we came in for him. Cracking guy is Rafa, but if the right offer came in he would be gone, and no one could blame him.

Don't think he'd leave us mid season tbh, though I wouldn't blame him as you say. He's only got a year left to ride out, loves everything about managing us apart from the cunt of an owner, it's relatively close to his family and another season beating the odds wont do him any harm if he does move on. By all account he's completely focused on Newcastle's season. Ideally, he says, he'd like to stay here for a long time because of our obvious potential but it all depends on the ownership situation. No Mike Ashley and the club could be an excellent project for someone like Rafa. He's been offered a 5 year deal and a 1 year extension but it's a game of politics atm. If Ashley does want to sell (which I don't believe as I've said numerous times before), Rafa is his main selling point. He loses him and our price plummets. Local journo's reporting Rafa is essentially being blackmailed. Sign a deal or get no money to spend, which would explain why we've gone from a reported £50mil+ budget to having to sell to buy. Power struggle and that like his Liverpool days. If we somehow manage to get a new owner, he'll stay for a good few years yet imo.

I seem to remember something similar to the above was the beginning of the end of Hicks and Gillett at Liverpool. Correct me if I'm wrong. Hoping for anything that gets that piece of shit as far away from our club as possible.

Carl Ikeme has retired following his battle with acute leukemia. Been with Wolves for 18 years, hopefully the club will give him a more upstairs role.

Just realised Chelsea have been making a mockery of the home grown players rule. Extending the top level careers of over the hill players because they are English is nearly the direct opposite of the intention of that rule.

Managers to get red or yellow cards for showing signs of dissent and abuse towards match officials.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/45025794

Some would get one each game!!

Its only coming into the EFL and non-league for now - as these new trials seem to do.

Will it make any difference - after all officials can send managers and coaches off anyway for such incidents?

And the abuse doesn't stop!

Nuno wouldn't last long with this in place.

Wow talk about making the impossible possible. Do PL players honestly think they'll get anywhere crying about money? This will do nothing but make Ashley look good.

Bonuses reportedly cut by 75% after a miraculous top 10 finish, transfer business has seen us £20mil in profit to this point, T.V and prize money has once again vanished, Rafa being blackmailed in an attempt to force him in to a new 5 year deal. Nothing can make Ashley look good at this point.

"Rafa, as always, has my full support, and contrary to some media reports that portray me as a pantomime villain, I will continue to ensure that every penny generated by the club is available to him. I hope very much that Rafa will remain at Newcastle United."

Where is the money?

He's running a tight ship and doing so whilst yielding good results. Strong argument to be had for owner of the season. Newcastle fans are spoilt.

Liverpool unluckiest team in PL last season, no surprise Man U were the luckiest - still have those refs bought it seems...

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/45087444
"For example: in Liverpool's 0-0 draw with Manchester United at Anfield on 14 October, the study concluded Jurgen Klopp's side should have been awarded a penalty in the 63rd minute, and the new simulated scoreline was a 1-0 victory for the home side."

Isn't that assuming every penalty taken goes in?

It also counts deflected goals (not a result of a ref decision whatsoever) and "overrun injury time" (not a thing, stoppage time is a minimum and extra time can and should be added if there is a stoppage in play during stoppage time).

We all trust research until it goes against one of our core beliefs. Then we all make an exception.

So yes that sounds very reasonable.

Mate it's world class research at the forefront of civilized society and all that it stands for. It's exceptionally valuable and I'm delighted that we are funding it.

Me neither.

A study from three independent places including a University. It's as air tight as research gets, and basically backs up what we have been saying that we don't get anything going for us whilst Man Utd get everything. Let's hope this highlights these issues to the PL refs this season so justice can finally prevail!!!

What is the difference between the current (proposed) valuation of the club and Ashley's valuation? Are you guys basically fucked until someone comes in with an offer £100m over what the club is actually worth?

Newcastle are hardly fucked. They finished top ten and have no debt. Ashley is a good owner - look at Villa/Sunderland etc etc etc.

Newcastle haven't broken their transfer record since Michael Owen signed for £16 million in 2005, which is pretty remarkable considering the size of the club and the drastic inflation in transfer fees since then. This summer they sold a striker surplus to requirements for £20 million and Ashley hasn't invested anything back into the club despite the Premier League TV money. It's obvious Ashley wants to sell, but unless he backs Rafa soon, he's going to be trying to flog a club with a vacant manager position and a Championship level squad. If he invested a little now, Newcastle would be a far more attractive proposition to buyers and he might get the price tag he needs.

Ashley pays for signings upfront whereas money from players sold is received in installments. He does invest into the club, he's put in 100's of mill of his own money interest free.

Our Abe prides himself on being a contrarian at all times but suggesting Ashley is anything other than a fat, fireplace-vomiting, leeching-slug-c*** of a man is way wide of the mark.

Nah sorry not having it. I don't care for him as a man but as football club owner he tried his best.

He bought the club when it had liabilities coming out of it's arse without the means to cover em. His problem was having Pagnell-esque level of football understanding. They had a rock solid manager in Big Sam but instead he wanted to be one of the fans and got in Keegan to appease em. That was obviously always gonna fail. The fans then made threats on his life so he said fuck you I'ma run you like I do my businesses. That approach has seen Newcastle reach top 10 in the PL whilst achieving financial stablity - whereas down the road Sunderland are fielding crap Scottish players in League One and must be close to financial implosion.

I hate this bullying mob mentality.

Do you think they should aspire to be better than Sunderland and have that as the summit of their achievements?

Last season most experts valued the club at around £240/£300mil. He supposedly wanted ~£450mil, I assume that includes the full £144mil debt (which doesn't exist according to some). Following our second relegation under Ashley, he was forced to "invest" another £15mil in the form of adding to his interest free loan he holds over the club, due to our considerable overdraft the bank were no longer pleased with. Our plummeting commercial and match day revenue may have something to do with the mess. Financial stability as mentioned above

Basically he's ran us in to the ground but expects to sell for the clubs value plus every penny he's spent trying and failing to correct his own mistakes.

In short, yes. We are fucked.

You brought Sunderland into the debate and they are completely irrelevant to it.

Things could always be shitter, that doesn't mean Newcastle fans aren't right to question aspects of Ashley's ownership.

He buys Swansea tomorrow, are you happy?
