I still can't get over the FISH chant and how bloody brilliant it sounded in Wembley, almost every single Town fan in the stadium doing it, sounded more fitting for Galatasary not Grimsby!
My hairs were stood up for the first few seconds of it, incredible atmosphere, will sound even louder there next year... ;)

Loving the bumfest before and after.
Watching the Bristol manager act as one the boys is cringing.... Put it down to age.

What you all need to remember is that. Bristols they did not have the big bollocks to win it normal time meaning the season

Congratulations to Bristol Rovers, over the course of the season you definately deserved promotion, it has taken me until the last couple of days to be able to look at or even read anything about the game, such has been my devestation with what happened. The most utterly gutted and drained i have ever felt after a football match.
The only time during the whole game where i thought we may lose was for 15 mins after Rovers scored, thought we were hanging on for half time, but for the other 105 mins i genuinely never thought for a second that we would lose, just felt so comfortable which was really strange.
I'm surprised only 1 of you has mentioned Magnay not getting a 2nd yellow, soon as he dragged their left winger back i looked straight to the ref and his hand went straight to his pocket, and then out again!
Not gonna talk about the other decisions this late in the day, just wanted to post on here and congratulate Rovers,
talking to quite a few of their fans on the way to the stadium and they were all spot on, and same on the tube afterwards.
The first time my lad has ever cried at a football match was tough to see, but i told him that supporting GTFC, it definately won't be the last!
A few people have touched on Rovers fans lack of noise, but when their winning pen went in, the noise was insane, sickening for me to hear at the time mind, but very impressive.
Good luck in League 2 Rovers, great club, great fans.

See ya next year. :woot:

Not a bad game tbh. The keeper incident annoyed me but we probably wouldn't have scored apart from another fluke again. Mckeown probabaly should have been sent off as should Taylor, just for being a complete cock. Felt Rovers relied a lot on Chris Lines, only standout player for them really. The Rovers fans were annoying, booing Disley's penalty? Also, that one song gets on my tits, do they actually know anymore?
Think it'll be hard to keep one or two players, mainly Pearson and/or Magnay. Don't think we'll do too bad unlike Wrexham the other season, the team spirit is strong in this one.

I guess you are insinuating that because GTFC fans and Bristol Rovers fans do not call fuck out of each other, that we are having a 'bumfest'? :dk:
It is called mutual respect, not something you have ever come accross i guess......?

We booed Disley's pen? Don't remember that, in fact he was applauded in the lead up to the game when his name was announced etc.

I know he was. Just pointing out that I felt his penalty was significantly booed more than the others.

Probably in a vague attempt to try and put off a player who used to play for us and prevent him from scoring one of the penalties that consigned us to a second year in this division. It's what opposition fans do in a shootout isn't it?

Your 'one song' comment is amusing too; the 'fish' chant was the only one I heard your fans sing! Goodnight Irene is our club song so it's inevitable we're going to sing it a lot, and given the fact we had so many people there who don't regularly go to games, it makes sense to sing the song we are known for.

From the neutral videos I have watched on YouTube of the penalty shootout and aftermath, Goodnight Irene sounded really loud and people were commenting on how impressive they thought it was. We by no means displayed our full range of chants on Sunday but I for one am proud of Goodnight Irene, much like I am sure you guys are of yours.

(That isn't a dig at Grimsby fans by the way - I have already gone on record as saying you guys made great noise and did yourselves proud. I said 'fish' was the only song I heard you sing but that doesn't mean it was; I was just so absorbed by the game to worry about what was going on at your end!).

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound rude; it was impressive.
You guys probably deserved to go up as you were the best team overall we'd played throughout the season. As I've said, you have to keep Lines if you want any chance of succeeding.

It is amusing watching The Gas and Fish heads going overboard about the incredible atmosphere, when in the grander scheme of things, your talking about a barely half full Wembley, which included 7000 neutrals.

Anyone who went to the Champions League final at Wembley in 2013 will tell you what a real atmosphere is like at the stadium.

Some perspective required me thinks.

There were 7k neutrals, imagine how embarrassing that would've been for FGR and Eastleigh knowing more neutrals turned up than your own fans?!

The atmosphere in the sense it was a non league game was brilliant. The atmosphere from our fans considering we were vastly outnumbered made me incredibly proud of my club. The record attendance at Wembley for a non league play off final too.

Absolutely stinks of sour grapes from both of you.

Not sour grapes at all, have acknowledged several times how good Bristol Rovers' support is and how they shouldn't really be at this level. They are the reason that it was a record attendance, Grimsby's turnout certainly wasn't.

It's just all this cringeworthy mutual fapping over a crowd that most fans of big clubs would laugh at that really brings into perspective just how tinpot EVERYONE is at this level.

So what your fans made a bit of noise in a Wembley play-off final, get over it it's nothing amazing.

Yes, 50k for a Conference game is terrible, especially at £40 per head. We should all be ashamed :hb:

We've said Grimsby provided a great atmosphere because... they did. They didn't bring numbers but they were very noisy. To be honest, if you didn't expect discussion re: the play-off final, its atmosphere etc. you probably shouldn't read the 'Play-Offs' thread.

I could make various criticisms about FGR's support in the semi-final, both numbers and noise, but I won't because its not particularly fair . Myself and other Rovers fans, felt it necessary to praise Grimsby's fans, who were excellent! Praise between clubs = mutual fapping is a very strange bit of logic.

I didn't criticise anyone's fans, I just find it surprising that fans of clubs that consider themselves massive are so overcome when they get a half decent atmosphere at a play-off final. Nothing to do with FGR by the way, we know we're a small club and have never to my knowledge bigged up the size of support or atmosphere we create, whoever we're comparing ourselves to.

It's just amusing when fans of clubs, particularly Grimsby, who like nothing better then to belittle smaller clubs support, get all over excited by a bit of noise from a turnout that would embarrass a lot of clubs.

Most league 1/2 clubs didn't get near either clubs away followings this season. Infact if you take into account every sides highest attendances this year, out of all 24, 17 involved Grimsby or Bristol Rovers. Both sides should be proud of their followings, not the league we're in but the fact we've stuck through it and Wembley was a small reward for both sets of fans. Why shouldn't we be allowed to be proud of that?

Didn't you once tell me there was no chance we'd go up?

Your first mistake is comparing us to the champions league final. What a ridiculous comparison to make.

Secondly, I don't think you'll find many Gasheads fapping over our atmosphere, personally I thought our section was poor. A million times more than anything FGR/Eastleigh could muster up but still quite poor. We have of course commented on Grimsby's atmosphere which was excellent and deserved to be commented on. I'll be there has been teams with larger support who couldn't muster anywhere near what they did and they deserve credit for that.

I could only imagine how embarassing Wembley would have looked should FGR and Eastleigh got to the final, would have looked like the fans came in fancy dress as big red seats.

I'm not saying anything about your support, it's clearly impressive and you deserve to be playing higher. Your fans are also far less bbb then some have been at this level. It's fans of other ex-league clubs, like Grimsby, who have a superiority complex and like to regularly bash the small clubs, that I find amusing when it becomes apparent that in the grand scheme of things, they're actually small fry.

If we'd got to Wembley and brought 10k, which is possible given we got near that in the 99 FA Trophy final, and took 8k to Villa Park 2 years later, I'm sure Grimsby fans would have been laughing at us and saying how tinpot we are. They didn't do a lot better then that, despite having a far bigger fanbase & catchment area, but still seem to be slapping themselves on the back and considering themselves a big club.

Making a bit of a tit of yourself here again...

We might as well all give up and go home because we're not going to make the same atmosphere as the champions league final.

It was an excellent atmosphere from the TV and both clubs should be proud of making it. If anyone was arsed about being a small club in the grand scheme of things they wouldn't support a non league club...

But why the superiority complex then?

Why bash smaller "tinpot" clubs all the time, when your nothing special yourselves?
