Just found out that Plymouth tried to get Hallum Hope on loan before we did but they could not afford his wages! He had a good game yesterday and once he gets his match fitness up he may be a quality signing.

I'm thinking with the amount of money Bury St Germain were throwing around last season, and the fact that Hope appears to have been one of their marquee signings, that he'll be on a fair old wage, and we've maybe increased our contribution since signing him in order to secure his use in the FA Cup.

Maybe not that we have more money than Plymouth, but they'll have already budgeted for a promotion push, brought in some big names and with no unbudgeted income from a cup run may not have anything free to bring in high earners on emergency loans, whereas we seem to have been quite frugal with the Dempsey/Potts money, spending really for a top-half finish rather than promotion, and have now an unexpected bonus in the Anfield money.

Maybe (fingers crossed) the Bods, possibly at the urging of King and Kidd, have told Curle to use some of that money to turn us into a promotion-challenging side.

Think I read somewhere that we paid his entire wage for the FA Cup week instead of just a portion as we usually would. Worth it though I'd say, he seems to be a decent cover while Ibehre's out which means we don't have to rush him back.

I think that came from the Plymouth manager. Personally think he's just made it up. I can't see something like that being a factor in whether bury allow Hope to play in the cup, they either don't want him cup tied or aren't bothered. I think we've signalled our intention of taking him permanently in January and before that they originally didn't want him cup tied either A incase he comes back to bury and they need to play him or B incase they sell him to another club in January.

I'd be seriously impressed if we went and bought Hope in January. He seems like he could be a bit of a Curle project, plus knowing that we're willing to spend would be very promising.

Reportedly on 3k at Bury. He was meant to be the guy here but for whatever reason it hasn't worked out for him and is 4th/5th in line here.

I wouldn't be surprised if you signed him in January if you can afford him of course.

Apparently Curle looked at him earlier in the season and decided against bringing him in, but then changed his mind, maybe had him scouted again I'm not sure I can't find the article about it now.

Most uninteresting fact of the weekend is that this is only the third game for us in all competitions where someone has won by more than one goal. The last time was Plymouth away again, where we lost 4-1 in the league, before that Chesterfield at home who we beat 3-1 in the league cup, and going back to last season for the previous time, Plymouth yet again when we beat them 2-0 at Brunton Park to secure league safety.

I've just seen the choice of frontmen you have in your squad, more than enough firepower! :eyes:

If Hope does well for us then we'll be happy to take him, any idea how much you paid Everton for him?

I'm not sure. All our fees in or out seem to be undisclosed but I think there were some add ons which probably won't come to fruition. I don't think we'll ask for much if anything tbh. We shall see I suppose.

He only really wastes a second or two to be honest, but it doesn't half wind up the Plymouth fans, which perhaps was more his intention than the time wasting itself.

2:07 Derek Asamoah? More Derek Ass-admirer

That is really good though, a good advert for lower league football
