It’s how things go if things start getting difficult, that’s where Smurf went downhill... before that when we won promotion of course the opinion was much difference as the fans partied into the night... Smurthwaite decided to join in...

When things are going really well, interactive chairman will do this sort of thing. I imagine it’s more common than people think.

However when things aren’t going well........

Thought that was the scene from Mike Bassett where he’s pissed and dancing on that bar.

What Lincoln have done is a blueprint. Last year i went in November the 3-1, i also went to the famous Jim Gannon game i think the year Lincoln went down , 1-0 .

Incredible turnaround, i remember a freezing cold January day, Gannon benched half of our first team and we lost 1-0 in front of maybe 2'500 .

Last season with the feel good bounce it was electric.
Now the orchestrated bouncing and singing in the corner isn't my cup of tea but it was sure impressive and relentless. Great atmosphere and the feel good factor.
I maintain all along that people will watch winning football, why go to Vale v Bury in a couple of weeks sat 17th in the table ?

Well done Lincoln.

Absolutely no chance of Notts winning the league this year. We were actually joint top of the form tables over five games last week, 11 from 15. That didn't get us a single point closer to Lincoln and only one closer to Exeter in second.
I do think we can make the play-off but even that is going to require us to maintain a pretty high level of form, there's just no room left for a bad patch, we've used those games up.

Just remember our run 2 years ago. Bottom of the league on November 23rd - Then ended up losing to Blackpool at Wembley in the play off final.

They’ve shown what can be done, won the conference and had the cup run, 99 times out of 100 those fans then disappear the next league games but they’ve clearly got to spot on to hook in the fans and give themselves the platform and finance to push on.

Now I don’t know the exact figure the cup run made them... indirectly with the three fold increase in fan base probably millions but compare that to Vale who have made millions in the past two years with the Grant and Alnwick sales and the sell on from Hugill going from PNE to West Ham... add in then that four of our youth team have gone to Man City, Wolves and Stoke for decent money and yet little of that has been re invested at all.

Notice they have a decent fan zone and things to attract families and stuff at Lincoln, assume the marketing has been spot on and of course they’ve followed it through last season and again into this with success.

As a club who’ve struggled in non league and not even had a run out the bottom two divisions over the last few decades fair play to them, deserve the success. Our owner could learn a lot from the Imps.

Compare the Lincoln sides and followings that came to us in our previous spell at this level around 2008-2011 and it’s chalk and cheese.
FA Cup was about £2.5-£3m net, Checkatrade was somewhere between £800k-£1m.

We've also sold around £750k worth of players in the last two years.

Also had the advantage of very little debt (circa £250k at the time we paid the Co-op overdraft off) when everything was kicking off so everything could be reinvested.
