Vale at home today - another decent test, hoping for more of the same from Tuesday.

Tamworth away today. First time our fans have been allowed to go and watch a game of football in what feels like 10 years.

Thinking of spending the tenner on the stream Chesterfield are putting on. Just beforehand though is this of decent quality and stable?

Other than that we will probably give an hour to the team that will start opening day. Be nice for us to win but more than that hopefully both teams get out unscathed injury-wise.

Good stuff as well for the minutes applause for Ernie Moss before kickoff too.

Our goalkeeper has been injured in the warm up with no keeper on the bench. Sutton’s sub goalkeeper has gone in goal for us. Considering we still need a number one goalkeeper and to not have at least a trialist on the bench is pretty poor.

We’ve got Derby at home tomorrow. Ordinarily you’d expect a tough one and presumably this had been put in to give us a rare game where we don’t dominate possession so as to test the fitness, but with the state they’re in it might be more competitive than we’d anticipated.

We had a young striker on loan from Derby last season Jack Stretton who looked a real good prospect, would love to have him back but I doubt whether that will happen.

I think any young kid who has shown even a tiny bit of potential or played any senior games is in and around their first team at the minute. Ravel Morrison looks likely to play for them on trial - keeps jokingly being linked to us as Burchnall managed him at Ostersund and they got on well apparently.

Sorry just seen this - yes the stream is good quality.

You don’t have the best with goalkeepers in games against Sutton really

After 15 minutes against Tamworth Mullin has two assists.

I think there is something backward about our gameplay there...

Wouldn't be a game against Vale without numerous yellow cards and a sending off (even if it is a pre-season friendly).

Thought that was somewhat of dare I say an over competitive game between us and Chesterfield there. Some tough challenges going in and Covolan getting red carded for an elbow. Must have been bad if the ref didn’t even invite us to make a sub.

For Chesterfield thought their number 3 Miller looks a really good player. Was up against Worrall who is one of the best in our division and did well. Good luck to Chesterfield anyway. I think you could do with a genuine striker up top leading the line but other than that a good team.

Agreed Kieran - I thought it was a pretty even game which is a good sign for us considering we are a league below.

The striker situation is a tricky one - we have Asante and Denton both injured who would between them be one of our starting front 2 alongside Danny Rowe - and probably can't justify bringing in another striker on a permanent basis to play until those 2 return from injury.

It will either be a case of making do with what we have or bringing in someone cheap / on loan.

Results are not important in pre season games but a satisfying win against Tamworth today. Still a few players to come in yet as squad not ready for title challenge

Nice to get a few goals. Good run outs for some of our players, including a first appearance for McAlinden and a half for Mullin who sounded incredibly sharp. Some encouraging trialist performances too.

Is that where Burchnall came from? I’d never heard of him before. Did he take over from Potter?

Beat Curzon Ashton 4-0. Bulk of the first team came on around 60 minutes by the looks of things.

I can announce that Scott Quigley is Off The Mark™

Sneaked a win at Curzon Ashton with goals from Whitfield, Collar, Barclay (oops sorry that should say trialist) & Quigley.

Yeah - he’d previously managed in Norway and Ostersunds brought him in to be a continuation of Potter’s style of football and general approach. He actually beat Potter’s record finish in his first season, but then the owner got jailed for fraud or something and the club imploded.

1-1 today away at full strength Colchester United, a week before the League 2 season starts. Alot of work still to do in the final third, but we seem to have significantly improved at the back. Cook and Tavares smart signings.

The 5-0 sounded extremely comfortable on commentary, and the goals were shared around too

Lost 1-0 to forest green, decent performance and probably deserved to win. But unless we get a striker in we aren’t going to be scoring many this year.

I went to Dartford 2-2 Southend today, quite an entertaining game. We put out a very young side for the first 60 minutes or so, 5 youth team players, 4 of which have never been in the first team squad. One of them, O'Shane Stewart, was just about the best player on the pitch, really took control of centre of midfield and scored a screamer from 25 yards, he's been talked up for a while now in the youth side, on this evidence I'd say he should be in the first team squad.
We still have Covid issues with the keepers so Harry Seaden was back in goal, the keeper Brown is trying to get rid of. Today we saw why, at fault for both goals, firstly he's rushed out and just clattered a player, penalty. (Brown reckons it wasn't, looked blatant even from the other end of the ground). Then their 2nd he's come rushing out again to a ball he was never going to get near on the right side of the box, their player has just cut it back for another to put it in an open goal.
Got a bit disjointed after that as Brown put on players who you'd expect to be first team regulars, we had the majority of the play when they came on though and Ricky Holmes set pieces were just outstanding, one of them causing an own goal for 2-2.

Quite encouraging from the point of view of how well the kids did and then how comfortable the first team players stepped up the pressure and intensity when they came on.

An interesting reason for a player missing our friendly today.

The manager said that summer signing defender Morgan Williams missed the game because he was “adapting to his new footwear that allows him to not have one leg longer than the other.”

Lost 3-0 at home to Plymouth in what should be our toughest game in pre-season.

First 40 minutes we looked decent. Pressed well from the front, and defended really well. Unfortunately our CB Ali Omar had to go off injured, and he had been excellent, and after a reshuffle at the back we went through a spell where we no longer looked confident defensively. Our ex-loanee from last season Adam Randell looked excellent all game in their midfield.

Nothing overall to worry about at the moment as we were playing a League One side who start their season next week, and we've still got a few weeks to go. The one concern so far would be that we lack a bit of pace in the side overall, although we do look leggy at times as well which doesn't help.

Imagine we'll be strengthening the side with some loan signings (we haven't made any so far) once the EFL season starts next weekend.

If his speciality is getting on the end of low fast crosses in front of the goal, then you’re gonna be sorry..

Getting a red card in a pre season friendly deserves a place in the tinpot thread.

Fair assessment. Thought it was a decent game for a friendly although we weren’t quite as good as midweek against Bradford but we did start what I think is our second string midfield - with Clarke, Khan and Oyeleke on the bench.

Didn’t see the red card as it happened seconds after the ball went dead so no idea what he’s done but red and lino instantly flagged and sent him off without thought. Bit of a stupid thing to do but it was a bit niggly like you say.

Definitely missed Asante and we will until the new year unless we bring someone in but can’t see that as still think we need a centre half - we played a centre mid and right back there second half due to injuries so need to sort that out

It was a proper red by all account, non of this two yellows or last man bringing someone down rubbish. A full on forearm smash off the ball

interestingly it was the Torquay keeper who scored in the play off final adding reds to his game on top of his goals
