Top of the league! Theres a first time for everything. Although reports are that Northampton are enquiring if Melksham fielded an understrength team....
I think there's currently a scramble by most league one clubs frantically trying to arrange a last-minute friendly with Melksham ;)

First friendly ended 1-1 against Stockport in Spain.

I think the team featured 8 academy players so all in all a decent run out.

The squad sheet just reinforced just how much we've got left to do didn't it. Arguably got more players out there who won't really feature for us this season than will!

Beat Tiverton 1-0 in our first game of the season. Played two different sides and included lots of youth and triallists, with Julien Dacosta getting the goal.

An enthralling 0-0 with Billericay. Impenetrable.

Amazed it finished 0-0 tbh - Both sides missed chances in both halfs.

Wellens son was one of the second half trialists. 1600 in attendance at £5 was quite good I thought.

We travel to Evesham today for our traditional curtain-raiser. I've got a wedding to go to so I'll not be there.

I'd rather be at Evesham.

Good run out in our first preseason game against another side who won promotion to their third tier via the playoffs.

Does seem steep. We are charging £12 or £15 against Coventry, which seems about right to me

A very unserious game from our point of view with rotating goalkeepers, but a chance to see the system Warne is implementing. Ward and Elder looked very good in the first half, the former setting up Collins for our first. Barkhuizen came off injured in one of the attacking midfield positions, so step forward defensive midfielder/centre back Ben Radcliffe, who we just picked up from Burton, in an attacking midfield position. What a player that kid is, capped off a very good performance with a goal - I’ll be interested to see more of him. Brown, our u18 striker, looked good too as did Robinson and Bardell. Plenty of positives from the younger lads who hopefully should fair a lot better this season - one year separated from administration.

£18?
That’s a piss take. Should be a tenner max for friendlies and kids for a quid.
I'm just grateful to be able to watch them* and none of this behind closed doors nonsense.

*In theory. The reality is by half time I am bored and wondering what on earth i am doing watching this meaningless game

Right so if we lose or draw against lower league sides we blame academy and trialists yeah? Obvs the opposition are ready to go....

Lost 1-0 to a full strength Burnley in a behind closed doors game.
I think friendlies are all about fitness and players gelling - results mean nothing. We’ve lost all of them before now and ended up getting promoted so it doesn’t t mean much
