Caught first half, played some really good stuff and much the better side, frustrating to concede from a corner but got back level and have been fairly good.

Vales team for tonight pretty much confirms we are going 3-5-2 to start the season off anyway. One or two the names will be different such as Benning will start but other than that think we know where we stand on that front now.

Yeah I expected us to stick with 3-5-2 being so good with it when DC came in last season on that crazy 9 game run we had.

Benning likely will start you’d think although Dan Jones looks decent and has that huge throw.

Only issue with it is that it does stifle Worrall that system a bit.

Losing 2-0 to Chesterfield - HT!

Fielded a weakened side - 5 of which have come through our youth setup. Possibly only the keeper, Cook and Eisa would be key starters - the rest, very much fringe players.

Be interesting to see if Derek throws the 1st team on in the second half.

A huge worry. Losing 3 straight games to NLN sides, conceding shite goals, not scoring.

Think us and Hartlepool should just give up our positions in the FL to Stockport and Wrexham before we embarrass ourselves.

Does seem from a distance Challinor has been dealt a bit of a shit sandwich this summer. If he can help consolidate Hartlepool this season that will be one hell of a job he’s done.

Vale still level. Seems our midfield is gelling quite well. If can just get Rodney and Wilson scoring now then I’m quietly optimistic we can do ok.

Beat coventry 1-0 at home, really encouraging.

Again, it’s a pre season, it all has to be in context, but the side looks encouraging.

Awful mate, just have to look at the trialists we have to see we're scraping the barrell.

What was needed was the chequebook out for a couple of big signings, extended early bird for season tickets, kit already on sale etc etc feel good factor.

Yeah slightly rough hand finishing the season June 20th but it should've been all systems go instead we've spent the entire time on the piss and getting covid with the players either fatigued/demotivated or whatever, manager running off home straight after games, it's not going well at all.

Why would you put such an effort to get out of that league to try your best to get back in it?

Surely anyone connected knows the difference between being in league 2 and the conference

We've clearly lost out on targets due to finishing the season so late so we're pretty much stuck with what's left, DC has already said that we're going to be relying on loanee forwards that can't get a look in at clubs two to three weeks after the season starts, it's the shitty reality of gaining promotion so late and playing catch up.

I'd love to see us make a money move for a proven goal scorer but we have to be realistic, we're now back to being an average sized fish in a bigger pond with bigger fish, a move to Hartlepool, unless your throwing big dollars at players, which we don't have, is not very interesting to players.

In the end lost 2-1. A Vale fan was streaming the second half on Facebook so thanks to him for that. We looked good with the ball and lots of encouragement to take there. Defensively we have been prone to a few errors which was also the case against Forest. Need to get that straightened out ASAP.

Lost 2-1 to Sheff Wednesday, bit harsh as we were the better side for most of it but encouraged by the performance.

Odd side Wednesday, started time wasting in a friendly including their keeper getting booked as us getting an indirect free kick in the box (assume this is a new rule?).

Lost 2-1 to Chesterfield. First defeat of this pre-season.

I guess the final game against Accrington this weekend will give us a better idea of where we are. We’re yet to lose when we field our starting XI, but I’m not sure whether we should be concerned with our strength in depth.

Yeah there's something in that, we had more pulling power the level below as one of the bigger clubs (all relative) So it was easier to get players from pretty much all over the country. Now we're back to northern lads again who want to come nearer home.

That said I do think we could've gambled a bit more on the targets in reach, okay a slight higher outlay initially but then you'd get more season tickets sold and kits/sponsorships etc if there was an effort to make a buzz about the place. There's a total lack of foresight in the way we're run. We always miss a trick that similar clubs to us don't and are better run.

Looks like DC will be supported to get his squad of 22 so maybe we can cobble a side together from that to stay up.

0-0 draw for us at home to Sunderland tonight. Missing a proper number 9 but if we find one then we’ll be looking in good shape.

Having nearly gone down and surviving then going down anyway, surely as fans you’ll have a decent grasp on what the level is to go down.

There’s always a nut case club, swindon by the looks of it, so you’ve got to be epic to go down

how embarrassing.

I’m saying nothing. We finish up our pre-season at whatever Chezzy call their stadium these days on Saturday so no way that wouldn’t come back to bite.

Hopefully we can get a win there to take into Northampton.

All the best sides have 3, or 5 in your case.

Still, losing to chesterfield, bad times.

It’s all good, we beat Blackburn’s first team at the weekend. :woo:

Was wondering what was going on with that? Bizarre, not seen that happen before.

I do wonder if we are going to step up efforts for an extra attacking option in the next 10 days. The defensive errors can be worked on so no issues there but I think we are slightly light up top.

Good crowd tonight for a friendly too - 2708 with 539 from Wednesday so good stuff all round there.

Think we've got good depth in attacking areas, aside from one more striker. Midfield was dreadful first half but we were missing Songo'o obviously and Staunton did okay to say he isn't a midfielder. Evans absolutely gash again and we need to get rid. Slightly concerned defensively as Kelleher hasn't impressed at all and looks every inch a non league player. Best hope Paudie and Canvan don't get injured otherwise we're in trouble.

We’ll do anything if it means Wildsmith doesn’t have to face any shots!

In all seriousness it sounded like a good run out and that starting team isn’t far off our strongest on paper bar Bannan and Windass. Also sounded like your keeper pulled off some top saves. Result not really important but it’s always nice to win. All the best for the season.
