Dont say you will win the league on here....you will get slaughtered
Hows Nicky Adams doing for you?

The key word was 'Two'...
Nicky Adams continues, second highest assists in the whole league, second to some no name in the Premiershite...

Three matches against non league opposition so far, basically playing a different 11 in each half for fitness.

4-0 v Woking
5-0 v Banbury
3-0 v Oxford City

On Friday and Saturday we played Norwich and Coventry. Norwich absolutely battered us 6-0 with their full side while a better performance against Coventry only led us to losing by one goal.

Russ seems happy with the pre season so far but in 4 games we've not won yet and rumours are we have Arsenal up next...

We play Middlesborough today. Totally behind closed doors, at Boro request, don’t think even the local press will be there. Should be a good test for us.

Scunny for us tonight. Not sure we really want to be playing on the pitch in Storm Francis but at least it's only £5 to watch.

Think both teams will play the fringe players with the Carabao games coming the next day

We lost 4-3 to Ashton United. Going down.

Tyler Smith and Hallum Hope with a brace. Work to do but that’s what pre-season is for of course!
Crickey! Did your forum go into meltdown?

Ours did because we lost 4-3 to FGR

Since then people have been wondering if we'll win a game all season, whether the manager should resign etc :ffs:

Tbh, nobody gave a flying one. It was good for one reason - the fringe defenders we had out are not up to league standard. Big problem if injuries hit, but I presume that’s the same for all clubs with squads being capped as well as wages.

no everyone was pretty sensible that pre-season results mean absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Can you imagine if managers were to resign on the back of a poor pre-season!

4-0 win against Scunny.

Good run out for a youthful side, worried about depth to be honest. The style of football was there to be seen and if we click it could be exciting. Edun was fantastic and if we can fit him and Bridcutt in there together it could be really promising. Roughan though looks a diamond, him and Chapman looks worlds apart and Chapman has 2 or 3 years on him. Left foot, good physique, composure and can pick a pass.

I really like Edun, he just seems to have so much time on the ball and be able to pick a pass even when players are buzzing around him.

Agree r.e. Roughan, I can't believe he's only 17. It'll be interesting to see him develop although it's always felt that step into the first team from 17/18 years old is the downfall for a lot of young players.

Good workout with a mix of first teamers and squad guys, still missing a number of regular starters too. Scunny were dogshit though.

Oldham away at Boundary Park on Saturday now Mansfield were too scared to play us, they would rather play in some meaningless Carabao cup game than against us for a friendly.

That was a real scratch XI. We had to pinch 2 players off other clubs, put them down as trialists to make up a team! We nabbed some keeper off Bristol City and a ‘striker’ who’s been at Colchester for 3 years, never played a game! Chuck in our youths - who don’t look up to much - and, hey presto, there’s a game on.

Got 2 games Saturday I think. Bristol City and Brentford U23s.

We lost 4-1 to Arsenal. The scoreline was a bit flattering in my opinion, a dodgy first 10 minutes gave them 2 early goals and the other two came from a defensive mistake and a penalty both given away by a trialist. We looked good throughout the rest of the game and statwise we seemed to be on top for the most part other than shots. Our goal was an own goal and it looks like attacking creativity may be a problem, but we have two first team strikers out injured so I'm hopeful we'll be fine.

Defensively the first team looks good even with Keogh and Williams injured. The midfield needs strengthening, but we have time and the manager seems confident that we will still get our targets.

Yes got Dates wrong...Evatt will have them up for this after yesterdays performance. I expect both teams to field the strongest available teams.
Crewe will be a yardstick to where we are at.

I haven’t bothered watching either, but haven’t some fans been asked to pay to watch?

not sure but I think fans would pay a nominal sum to watch a pre-season game given the lack of football for ages in the lower leagues. Fair play to Gills for making it available to the public though. I guess they make a small amount from YouTube based on watches or something?
