Pleased Rob Edwards has dispelled some of the doubts about him making the step up from youth coaching, but long way to go still and there was probably a bit of naivety about some of our sillier implosions - but even with them he's clearly got what it takes and experience will only improve him.

Been very impressed so far, don’t wanna get too carried away yet but so far he’s been able to keep the positive momentum from our good start/new manager honeymoon period going, keep anything like the same sort of form up over the next 10-15 games and promotion looks very much on.

Think what will test him will be if we hit a bad run or get a load of injuries, something we’ve managed to avoid so far.

Talking to a Telford fan they were saying Edwards biggest problem whilst manager there was being pretty inflexible tactically and a bit naive at times when it came to making changes at the right times in games, obviously he’s since worked under Nuno Espírito Santo at Wolves plus with the England u16’s so should have improved on that front. Next couple of months will be a major test but feeling pretty confident at this point.

Rob has been an outstanding success in first few months at FGR. But he did inherit Mark Cooper's team which achieved a promotion play-off spot last season.
It will be interesting how he copes from January to May.
Mark Cooper had an exceptional eye for spotting talent. Will Rob be able to replace our best players in transfer window with players of equal talent?
At the moment FGR have the best of both world's: games in hand and points in the bag. But sometimes a good thing does go pear-shaped. Trying to fit extra games into a tight schedule could disrupt the team in many ways, either through injury or exhaustion. With a small squad, Rob could be well challenged to maintain the success they've achieved since becoming 'First Team Coach'.

(Ok I know someone does some shite like this every year but this year it’s my turn) ;)
I will work out the proper table later, but I think GTFC Fish deserves some sort of award.

That was quite hard to do as really there is little to no difference in quality in the vast majority of this division. Only reason I've got Rochdale going down is you typically look at a club with stuff going on behind the scenes and that can easily derail a clubs season as many of us have found in the past. I'm sure that will get proven laughably wrong but just couldn't separate a number of clubs.

Got us and Mansfield right at least and Colchester was close enough. Least said about the rest the better.

Not really counting Scunny prediction as quite frankly who didn’t have them bottom?

Autos - Bradford, Vale, Salford

Playoffs - Bristol Rovers, Newport, Rochdale, Mansfield

Relegation mix - Scunthorpe, Sutton, Hartlepool, at a complete guess.

I think there are a lot less dodgy looking teams than there were this time last year. Hartlepool and Swindon need some players in and they've a good chance of being fine. As for us I don't think we will go under the radar, somewhere around lower mid table would be an expectation and one I'd take to be honest.

It's hard put on paper any definite relegation candidates other than Scunthorpe. It could be a struggle for Sutton and Hartlepool as we found last year. The latter had a similar problem as we did in losing one or two standout players but at least they have a manager that knows what he is doing.

I'd expect media predictions to put us in the relegation mix based off our finish last year and the fact we also lost our top scorer. Despite the relative lack of quality in our squad last season once we had a manager in place that had a clue we had the results of a side that would plod along in 13th or 14th. Cooper is a significant upgrade on David Dunn and Michael Jolley.

Some excellent shouts by Yours Truly here.

Interesting that I have Northampton down as finishing in the top 7 and no one has mentioned them yet

Very interesting…

The teams that most folk got wrong were

Sutton and Swindon finished higher than most folk predicted and Bradford City finished a lot lower.

Five teams were predicted quite accurately, notably Scunthorpe, followed by Newport, Colchester, Mansfield and Port Vale.

We were an absolute train wreck pre-season so can understand why we were tipped to struggle, many of the experts also saw us doing badly. Thankfully somehow we have been able to put together a pretty good squad of players that may still end up getting promoted.

It’s funny looking at the predictions, especially the majority of predictions for Sutton.

I suppose it comes with the territory - pretty much every season since we were promoted back to the National League in 2016 we’ve been predicted to struggle. It’s fun being written off
