:bdick: we found this season's league 2 forum troll lads!
If you think Barnwood is a troll, wait until Adelstein/Malabus rears his ugly head in here..........!

Honestly not a troll and I suspect most Cheltenham fans will also tell you we are quietly confident of a solid promotion push this season. Bristol Rovers finished third last season with a squad not as good as ours and we also have Gary Johnson as the ace in the pack. Both Gary and the chairman have been clear we want back to back promotions.
I'm also confident of promotion this season but don't expect top 3 due to the strength of Portsmouth, Doncaster etc

1) you severely underestimate the strength of some of the teams down here
2) What Rovers did doesn't happen very often, it's definitely a big rarity. It's not easy to do with any team.
3) Your squad isn't better than Rovers' was, and even theirs wasn't anything especially amazing last season.

You might get the play offs or thereabouts, but I highly, highly doubt you'll go up automatically. And going around saying how you have all these predictions is just setting you up for a big, big fall.

I'm surprised by Cheltenham's expectations for this coming season, and like others have already said, few teams achieve back-to-back promotions from the Conference. I'm not even as confident about our chances, I'd like to finish in the playoffs but it's a tough league and anything can happen.

I'd have Cheltenham down as midtable currently.

I don't believe I have been disrespectful to anyone and I fully acknowledge back to back is a tough ask but I have a lot of faith in this team and manager. We will have to respectfully disagree on the comparison between and ourselves and Bristol Rovers, hopefully you will change your mind in the coming months.

I am amazed that at most bookies you can get a better price on Cheltenham to go up than you can for us, especially as we finished a massive 21 points behind Cheltenham last season and have lost our top scorer and still haven't replaced him.

You're riding a wave of confidence after last season, which is all well and good. But you won't be playing against mugs where you just need to turn up and string 3 passes in a row together to score. The league is much tougher than the Conference and good manager/Holman/whoever else aside, you won't walk through teams here (apart from us probably but we'll be shite anyway). Just think the confidence your fans are showing is a bit exaggerated and definitely misguided.

Yep, Cheltenham ran away with the title in what was the poorest Conference I can remember TUFC being involved in. The fact that we were utter garbage for around 35 games yet still managed to survive says it all. I'll be very surprised if they challenge the top end of this division.

All true apart from the bit about us being shite but I know that's your natural pessimism coming through.

I'm surprised no one has us in the top 7 - proven manager with really solid additions so far to an already clearly talented group of players.

A combination of Forte, McLeod, Stead and the imminent signing of Toney will definitely score goals in league 2.

And with the solid back line of Duffy, Dickinson and Tootle we will be much more solid than last season.

1. Doncaster - great signings and fergie has done it before
2. Pompey- see Donny
3. Orient - consistent approach will get their apparent quality up
4. Blackpool - Bowyer is a great appointment IMO
5. Notts - see notes above
6. - Cheltenham - my dark horses for next year
7. Luton - good signings and like the look of Jones

23. Morecombe
24. Newport

I can't see Plymouth being as strong as last year - I think Mansfield will start strong but frantically fade away - Keith Curle is a one trick pony and will be sacked before the season finishes and Shaun Derry hasn't got the experience or momentum to carry Cambridge into the top 7. His signings reflect that a la Blair Adams.

Very unlikely.
Agreed. I think the owners and a large portion of the fans have warmed to him now more than they did with the last couple of managers, and our board aren't really ones for sacking managers unless there's extreme pressure to do so. Plus most fans I feel would sort of accept top 7 - which we really should be at least challenging for all season - at least to the extent of not calling for him to be sacked, even if they don't say so right now.

Im not going to say anything. That way I don't make myself look a tit in December when my overly optimistic predictions look ridiculously stupid.

Cheltenham are actually so good that they're taking all of the top 7. The league will soon realise that they're light years ahead of any other competition and will see it to be unfair that anyone could be promoted with them as equals. I'm also hearing that they may be granted a double, possibly triple, promotion in order to stop Dan Holman embarrassing English lower league football.

I heard a rumour that they're melting down every trophy from the English lower leagues, the old LDV Vans trophy and Mike Tyson's gold tooth (all of which they obviously stake a big claim to) to make a to scale model of Gary Johnson and Dan Holman touching penises.

'Holman's Johnny' I heard they're calling it.

Fuck off BarnwoodCTFC!! This is my patch.

Cheltenham to go up though? Ha, don't make me laugh.

Well here is my prediction:

1.Portsmouth (Oh I'm a stupid football pundit who knows nothing about L2, so I'll put the biggest club top)
2.Carlisle Utd (I support them and I say we'll finish 2nd, if not then 1st)
3.Hartlepool Utd (There's always some shitty average looking team that has all the luck and get's unexpectedly promoted)

4.Plymouth (Fuck it up again, only this time from being 20 points ahead at the top halfway through)
5.Luton (Good team and moving forwards)
6.Grimsby (This season's Bristol Rovers, only not as good)
7.Mansfield (Ahh they've got a decent bunch of fans on here, so I'll let them go up through the play offs)

23.Doncaster (Originally I would of had them to go up, but that fan on here with the koala bear avatar is a c***, so relegation for you)
24.Notts County (0 points with a -100 goal difference, sorry Notts fans but someone has to finish bottom I'm afraid)

Let's see how much I get right. :)

Think Exeter (as much as it pains me to say it) will be the ones who manage to sneak into the PO's at the tail end of the season largely unnoticed and manage to win the Play Offs. Sounds like a long shot, but just a funny feeling it will happen. Argyle will finish mid table I think. Too many new players

Far too much optimisim in this thread. Pretty much everyone has predicted their own team is getting promoted or play offs

:2thumb: Its what we do preseason before we all find our natural level is so much lower. For half of us it's our only shot at glory and getting off a couple of brags

Traditionally clubs coming into this league, particularly those coming down, are always massively over optimistic from what I've seen in the years we've been down here and underestimate the standard of the league, especially the teams at the sharp end.

Not fancying us too much at the moment but I don't think we're done yet, we'll start slow because some of the players leaving will have de-stabilised us a bit, but I'm confident we'll add well and get stronger as the season progresses because our budget this year is a lot higher than last years, assuming Adams turns out to be as good as we hope he is of course.

I will predict Cheltenham top three along with Portsmouth and one other maybe Orient or Doncaster. Plymouth to make the play offs, Morecambe and Stevenage to be relegated.

Some people seem to be genuinely under estimating our team and our manager this season, hopefully it means we start under the radar but I would be astounded if we are not in the top seven or so this season.

Think you lot are under estimating the quality of the top teams in this division.

However momentum and confidence might lead you close to the playoffs.
