I think mid table is what we can hope for, no more than that. The owners and manager seem to be implyimg they expect to have a similar approach to getting out of league 2, step by step.

I'm surprised at how many predictions here have us in the automatics / play-offs. So far we've lost our management team, captain and best player - and must be lagging behind in the early value transfer dealings. Admittedly we've quickly replaced Cook with a manager with a proven track-record, but he's working with a playing budget of £3.1M (which apparently puts us lower half of League One?).

The Eisner takeover is obviously likely to happen but nobody knows for sure if this will result in an increased budget (although it is highly likely).

Anyway, I guess I'm saying that it's difficult to make predictions this early with so many unknowns, known unknowns and unknown unknowns.

That's a top 6 playing budget not sure who's told you it's low. Our playing budget this season was around £2.3M although there is nothing concrete, but apparently we were the 11th highest in the division.

Where we end up will be down to summer transfer business and injuries, fatigue etc as we saw last season before the final push for promotion.

Ours at around 1.4 puts us 18th apparently.

That's bull, not the first local rag and manager to do it either. The average league 1 player is on £70k per annum, so 20 players on this would be £1.4M. I know this is simplistic, but I know our budget is far closer to £2M than £3M and I didn't find that out through a local rag. We are top half just, and have run at profit for 6 seasons on the trot.

Yes, it would appear that the Fake News epidemic has infected the lower reaches of the Football League. No wonder Kenny Jackett was smiling in the article.

I have reasons to disbelieve you, but in no way can I provide proof; much like yourself. The playing budget was higher than £3m last season - as was the season before.

£3m is about average for L1.

Is it bollocks. £3M is a high budget probably looking at top 6 there.

Disagree we reduced our wage budget last season, getting rid of the likes of Morris, Anderson and Hanson mid season. Even if it was £3M season before it will be around £2.5M at most. And no chance the average player wage bill is £3M in this league when you take out Sheffield United and Bolton. I'd say £3M will give you a top 6 budget, but as you say neither can prove it. If you are including all staff in the wage bill, not just players then yes I can see how it is more than £3M.

To further muddy the waters - found this article from May 2015: http://www.thetelegraphandargus.co....ord_City_finances_are_on_the_level_once_more/

It contains the quote "The budget, which finished at around £2.5million, was thought to be the ninth-highest in League One." So it looks like £3m for mid-table two years later probably isn't too far off.
Depends on what teams are in the league though mate, Sheffield United, Bristol City were back then maybe other bigger spenders to up the average. Just because we ware a couple of years on doesn't mean the average has increased at this level, as obviously there are 7 different teams every season.

As the article you have brought up states we had a budget of £2.5M in 2015, this may have increased last season due to our FA cup run bringing in players such as Morris, Anderson and having players like Hanson who have signed a number of contracts over the years. But in the last year we have got rid of them, and brought in young cheaper options. So our budget maybe back to £2.5M not £2.3M I stated the other day.

So, we're talking about an average budget but it's cool to take out the top payers. Some average that mate.

Of course if you take out your Sheff utds, Bolton, Wigan, Wolves, PNE and Brizzles each campaign you'll have a lower league average. Each year, the average budget in L1 is circa £3m - but that doesn't mean those who have the 12 highest league budget, are those paying circa £3m.

I'm not saying take them off, but after them most in the league will be similar in terms of wages except for the small ones at the bottom. Just because something is the average doesn't make it mid table, the average could actually be 6th place due to the top payers distorting the average. Where have you seen the average is £3M btw? All I found was this http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...14-15-season-1-7million-rest-creep-along.html

Granted it is dated and the Premier League and Championship will have increased significantly due to new TV deals, but I doubt leagues 1 and 2 will have increased much in that time.

We'll have to agree to disagree but I'll be shocked if Portsmouth's budget is anything other than top 6.

Bury this summer remind me of Leyton Orient a few years ago.

Why is it a laugh?? It's a reasonable prediction as your always down there, just because you have signed a few past there best names I can't see it been any different.

Whose past their best? Maybe Beckford. Who else? If the players gel correctly we should be top half minimum.

No idea what's happening with us, rumours rife that McCall is going to resign, we've not signed anyone and Meredith and McArdle are pretty much gone. Predictions of autos are optimistic at the moment.
