Says a lot that you continually throw around insults, called anyone else a "nonce" lately?

I actually didn't see the "whoosh" one, but get this, I can hold my hands up and admit that.
I'm refraining from giving you that label currently as I know how emotional you are and how easily you lose your head, bless you.

And that's fine, I've nowt to hold my hands up about though because everything you've said was a load of bollocks and I have just proven as much, so I won't be on this occasion.

No idea how this thread managed to turn into a slagging match between 2 supporters of the same team... perhaps take it to our designated thread?!

Just one thing on it though. JJ, really no need to keep on throwing insults around, especially to a fellow supporter.

Where have I lost my head?
You know nothing about me at all.

If anything I can probably tell more about you from the fact you constantly resort to insulting others, particularly with throwing such a horrible accusation of being a nonce.

Sounds a good idea, but no I've not been harsh, I've called him a c*** and an oddball both of which I firmly believe he is. This isn't just based on this discussion, he's always had an issue and felt the need to take swipes whether it be on here or in the shoutbox previously, and most of the issues he's had he's created himself for whatever bizarre reason.

"such a horrible accusation"

Go away and regain your composure and come back with a valid counter-argument which actually proves where I'm such a miserable pessimist which is the original reason that your back is up.

I haven't lost my composure at all  Here's the thing JJH. I can call you out on this nonsense without getting flustered, you don't phase me at all.

I just don't go around labelling people who disagree with me on something as a child molester, but each to their own.

"Taking swipes in shoutbox"
I haven't used shoutbox other than making a passing comment on a match for the best part of 2 years, and have never used it to take swipes anyone on the forum- at most I think me and a poster of another club had a trade off in there, but all good humoured banter, and that was around 2 years ago.

At most I have labelled you as a negative person when it comes to City. If you're going to make these claims at least back them up.

I have nothing to hide.

I don't see how thinking calling someone a child abuser is wrong (unless they are one of course) equals being one.
I don't think you should label people as rapists if they aren't, nor a murderer, etc, etc. Yet not done any of those things.

I'm not trying to intimidate or "phase" you, stop taking things so literally.

Again, I didn't claim that we'd had a heated match debate.

Okay then, here you are:
Other than JJH I dont think we are particularly pessimistic.
This happened very recently. Did you happen to forget it, again, for the sake of your shite argument? Without meaning to offend you with another "horrible accusation" you're a bit dense City169 aren't you?

I never said we had a heated debate either, you said I was taking lots of swipes at you, in shoutbox and in threads.

"This isn't just based on this discussion, he's always had an issue and felt the need to take swipes whether it be on here or in the shoutbox previously"

I then pointed out that I had never taken a swipe at you, or anyone else, in shoutbox, and simply suggested you back up your claims.

"Other than labelling you as negative when it comes to City"

What part of "Other than JJH I don't think we are particularly pessimistic" isn't covered by that?

I said I have called you negative when it comes to Bristol City, and you used a post where I said you were pessimistic about City as an argument otherwise. You didn't think that bit through did you?

Don't play dumb, you know the shoutbox doesn't back up posts so that's not possible.

Believe me, I did think it through. The point being that the whole reason you're so rattled as you regularly claim I'm so overly negative about Bristol City and then when asked to back it you made a twat of yourself.

Take Joe's advice.

Yet I'm not rattled at all.

I didn't say you had to back up your claims purely from the shoutbox. You said I was always making digs at you on threads and in shoutbox, so shoutbox not backing up posts is totally irrelevant as you should be able to find posts of mine on threads.
So it would be possible if I was always making swipes at you, perhaps you decided to ignore that part because it didn't give you an easy excuse for not actually having anything to back up your claims about me making swipes.

Regardless, I'm leaving it at this on this thread. As JonBCFC said perhaps we should at least take this to our thread or even by PM, and I doubt everyone else wants to read a page of 2 Bristol City fans arguing with each other.

You clearly have an issue with me for thinking you are pessimistic, but other than your pessimism (in my view) I don't have an issue with you.

A decent start and we (I use the term lightly) are at each others throats. I preferred when we all agreed we were shit. I can't be dealing with this winning business

Decent win for Reading, even after their slow start they're only 9 off the POs and always capable of putting a run together you feel under Stam.

We're also only 9 off the relegation zone. With 0 GD we're almost perfectly boringly mid-table.

Yep I definitely don't see reading troubling the top 6. I think the top 5 and Boro. Fulham have the potential, maybe Wednesday with a new manager. Don't think forest,Ipswich, derby, Leeds are consistent enough either but it's football I'm almost sure i will be wrong.

Derby should be alright under Rowett, that's only their second defeat in twelve. Not flashy football at all but it's effective.

Yeah, nothing really to worry about with regards to tonights result. We were unlucky, Ipswich just did to us what we've been doing to teams away from home. Nicked a goal and soaked up all the pressure, rode a bit of luck and took the points home.

More of the same Saturday against Burton so hopefully we learn from tonight.

Well you've got to admit that if we are still clinging to a top six spot come January then we'll have done insanely well. Boro, Wolves, Sheff Utd and Villa all to play in the next few weeks as well as the distraction of Manure in the cup. Even the most optimistic of us must realise this will be a huge struggle with so many key players out. O Dowda the latest. :(

Get through this month without falling to bits and we are in with a great shout.

Wolves, Villa, Cardiff, Blades, Boro and one more will make up the top six come may.

I'm not certain on boro myself.. they are an assombalonga injury away from a bit of a crisis themself.. most of their goals come from him so if he was to get injured they'd struggle imo.

All ifs and buts but they haven't exactly pulled up any trees so far, with nearly half the season gone.

As that website ranked us as the 23rd best club in the league last season, I don't pay much attention. I mean there will be some outliers, but getting us wrong by 20 positions from our league finish suggests the stats are missing something.

They got every team bar Reading and maybe 1 or 2 others within a couple of places of where they finished.
Their predictions were more accurate than the bookies across every single division.

If anything your season so far suggests that you were just an outlier last year, so to write the, off over your side being an anomaly seems a bit daft.

I'm of the opinion that stats and football don't mix.

It's not like American Football, Baseball or Cricket which are pretty black and white in terms of the better team usually winning. You can absolutely smash teams and hit the bar 7 times, then have 2 men sent off and concede from a throw in. As a sport, its fucking nonsense, averages in terms of possession and shots on goal mean absolutely nothing from one game to the next.

All stats really do in football is give you insight into a teams playing style.

I think stats can work, but you have to know what you are looking for. If you only look at 'number of shots' as a broad thing, and 'possession percentage' then you won't learn much.
If you can identify that a team consistently has 70% of their attacks coming from one side of the pitch, or 60% of goals conceded from a particular range, you can look to exploit or counter these things.

Most clubs now will have a data analyst or two, but they will look further in depth than just possession numbers or how many shots.
While the stats might only give you an insight on playing style, that can be the difference that you need. With that knowledge you can specifically cover the strengths and weaknesses of the team you will be facing.

Stats can also be very important in recruitment.
It doesn't have to be full on moneyball, but for example say 55% of goals Bristol City conceded last season was down our right hand side, that strongly suggests we are weak in that position and a better right back would be a wise investment.

But it doesn't necessarily mean its the right back. It might be your forward players are more prone to closing down on the left side of the pitch and opposition left backs are constantly being afforded more space. Or the right winger is workshy, or the right-sided centre back doesn't offer as much support or cover as much as the left-sided centre back.

Stats can give you a broad idea but overall, they're usually worthless unless you're combining them with actually seeing a team play with your own eyes.

Of course, but in my example of a data analyst at a club using that they would have the whole seasons games on video as well as the data, so things like a workshy winger, or the right sided CB not offering support can also be witnessed.

At clubs it is not a case of one or the other.

With stuff like the experimental 361 stuff linked by JJH it largely is just stats rather than a mix of both, but that's down it it being an independent person who can't attend every game of every club. But despite this the stuff he produces is accurate an awful lot. One example being last season he had a set where he would give % chance of a win lose or draw in some rounds of fixtures. It was roughly this time last season I believe, not very long after we had beaten a struggling Fulham side 4-0 in London.
His data then gave something like a 60% chance of Fulham winning away at either Newcastle or Brighton, I can't remember which. At the time I thought he had made a mistake or something. Fulham then won that away match and the data he had said they would rise up the table, which they then did.

Of course you cannot rely solely on statistics all the time, and as you say, football has far more variables than Baseball or Cricket which can influence things, but you can get some useful stuff when you know what you are looking at and what to look for.

I think Experimental 361 can be useful and is generally a fair reflection of the league table but if I want to know anything about a team, i'd rather read about what their fans are saying, rather than the numbers.
