You will still pay over the odds in wages. Your fans will demand it because they think they support a massive club. The board will give in to the constant demands for quality ( not usually equal to the outlay) and you will be back to square 1. Its what you have done for years.

We're 3 players short of cementing a playoff place IMO, our squad depth in terms of experience is a bit on the thin side - Need another striker to offer something from the bench, also if Harry Smith gets injured we've literally got no one else to replace him, another central midfielder who can gets his foot down and dictate a game and help us keep the ball - we signed Callum Reilly but he has spent 95% of his time here injured and a wide right player - If Tom James gets injured we literally have no one else who can play there.

The squad we have was newly formed in the summer and has so far done quite well. We're hard to beat and the goals of Aaron Drinan and Harry Smith have been welcome as both have never been prolific.

Our squad is also on the young side which I think goes over the heads of alot of our fans, patience is going to be needed. Playoffs will be a good season for us, if we don't make the top 7 it will be a failure because we have enough ability to win enough games to get there.

Doubt we'll win promotion this season unless we improve the squad depth in January, IMO under Jackett we're looking to get promoted within 2 seasons.

January is huge for us, really need to clear out a bit of the deadwood and get some decent strength in depth in. If we lose Etete/McWilliams/Horsfall/Guthrie for any length of time we’ll be buggered at present.

Strengthen well in Jan and we’ll be looking good for the autos, fail to do so and I fear we’ll be hanging onto the playoffs.

We’ve fallen away in recent seasons but the key difference for us is that we have much greater squad depth this season.

However, January is crucial for us. If we lose one or two key players then that could have a knock on effect. Hopefully we can keep the whole squad together and then I will be happy hopeful of going the distance.

I can see Swindon being up there for the duration and FGR look very consistent.

We haven't got a prayer unless we spend some serious money in January.

And that is never going to happen.

I think for all clubs January is going to be crucial. When we won the league a few years ago we bought in James Collins, John Marquis and Danny Rose (midfielder) and it just allowed us to massively kick on.

As Eric has mentioned, we have to clear out some deadwood up top and replace with at least one other forward who is a goal threat. Another striker, Centre Mid and Winger is a must for us I would say.

We still dont really dominate any game, we are organised and defensively resolute, but I am not convinced that is enough for us to go up automatically, hopefully im wrong!

Two eggs, it makes me weep that upon securing promotion we didn’t deem Collins or Marquis good enough for league 1. Kills me.

The only side that’s really stood out this season was bradford, and well yeah….

The league completely open as proven by bolton last season. Sides like mansfield and salford were knocking out the relegation zone and only a win or 2 off the playoffs (won’t happen).

We lost to exeter northampton and swindon fair and square and were better sides, but we also had the entire defence out, who knows if we had them now.

I think basically the aim is to be slightly less shit than the rest

Tell me about it. Marquis has proven himself twice with us and it felt like he had an affinity with the club. I thought Collins was the better of the two and was stunned we didnt keep him... or as you say Marquis. That summer absolutely ruined us with Rob Page. Why we didnt try and get someone in to keep a similar style to Wilder is beyond me. Both were always going to do well at levels above league 2, gutted it was not with us.

If we can make it to January still in and around the top three then this will be DC's finest work of the season regardless what else happens. Losing Rodney and Worrall on top of the existing players missing at some point probably sooner than later this is going to start telling on us. If we can steal a draw at Newport on Saturday I would be delighted.

FGR are proving they are far and away the best in this league. Another great win for them.

Since we're probably going to still be in League 1 next season, I hope that both Leyton Orient and Sutton United get promoted. Both teams are fairly close to us geographically and we haven't played Leyton Orient in the league in a decade and Sutton United at all.

Agree hope they were precautionary substitutions, that said when Garrity is banging them in from midfield like he’s doing!

Just need to keep nicking results stay in touch until January, win 2 of the next 4 before then I’d be chuffed! One bonus of the cup progress is it postpones FGR so gives us another game with the strikers back!

Could do with the odd postponement too!

We just need to keep ticking the points over. Grind out the wins even when we’re not at our best. The last two league games we’ve been fairly average but still come away with six points. That’s after a slight blip of form when we were winless in three.

We do have an injury crisis on our hands, but we still have more than enough quality in our ranks.

There’s a winning mentality in this side.

We are lucky as we probably have the best midfield in the league so even without the strikers we’ve still got loads of quality to open teams up.

Frustrating though, if we had Wilson fit we’d have been flying.

Ben Garrity though is becoming a cult hero!

Huge win for us tonight. Conditions made it difficult for Exeter first half and for us second half. Thought we could have been at least 2-0 by half time. Exeter the better side second half and I dont know how the guy at the back stick didnt score at the end.

We defended well when we needed too and employed a lot of time wasting tactics trying to kill the game off (as all teams do, 6 minutes got added anyway).

As mentioned above by the PV fan, keep eeking out wins and get to January and try and then bolster the squad. Need another CM and Striker as a must, ideally another winger as well. Forest Green seem to be far and away the best team atm. Still very tight all the way down to 10th really so cant affort any lengthy slip ups.

FGR are just extremely fortunate to have kept Matt, Stevens, Cadden and Wilson relatively injury free all season. If they'd lost the amount of firepower ourselves and other sides in and around the top, there's no chance they'd be that far clear.

Might be a blessing to have these injury issues now, rather than the business end of the season. If FGR do suffer a similar crisis, but in say, February or March, that could be damaging heading towards the crucial run in.

I’m not convinced we’ll get near the autos. Possibility for the POs, I suppose. The January window will show whether we’re serious this season. The cash from the Man City games could be a game changer.

Personally, I’d rather use the money to pay off the EFL loan and pay down some more of Power’s debts and take a chance the present squad can achieve.

Apart from FGR everybody else is much of a muchness, struggling with consistency when injuries/suspensions hit.

You need some luck with injuries, I guess their depth may leave them more reliant on luck injury wise but in fairness they do seem to pull out decent players out the hat.

We’ve had incredible bad luck purely on it being injuries to the same position, defence and midfield is largely injury free but to lose 3 of your 4 strikers to long term injuries, your fourth choice option who is really a winger and now possible Worrall and Rodney, it’s bizarre. If we had the same number if injuries but evenly spread throughout the positions it wouldn’t be as bad. That’s football though and we keep battling, if we go up this period would be one we’d look back on as the key period if we can just tick over.

Progress has been superb this season… we’ve got 35 points which is the same number we had after match day 35 last season!

Overall it’s an intriguing promotion picture. Ed Walker on the pod did a good summing up of it, FGR look set for promotion but after that it’s a fascinating race, Swindon and Exeter with their football but maybe not as solid, Northampton who are not spectacular but a real solid outfit who look like they’ll grind out 1-0s, he felt Vale were the most complete squad in terms of balance across the team and you’ve got the likes of Sutton and Harrogate but they may struggle depth wise as the season goes on.

Add in Orient and Newport sniffing about and it’s well set up heading into the half way point. You couldn’t really call who would finish where yet bar FGR. Lots of switching and twists.

Big results up there today. Exeter lose again and Vale get beat. Deserved or did Newport have a bit of luck?

We’ve come through 2 massive tests away at Exeter and Harrogate, 6 points thank you very fucking much. We’re in this scrap.

Newport were full value for the win so credit where it’s due, they’re a good side. Always felt a bridge too far for us with our injury situation. I know we are far from the only team with players out but to have almost our entire attack out for a sustained period of time is tough going.

We have Exeter at home next so that will be a huge game for both of us.

You'll win it easily, we are bereft at the moment and had a few more injuries today.
We are playing the better sides in the division now and coming up short. We start too slow and don't have a good deal of ideas going forwards. Its going to be a hard few weeks, as we have Swindon, Sutton and FGR next.

Yep, whenever we have to make a few changes we look a much weaker side. Crucial we don’t lose any of the four you mention for any amount of time, or in January.
