Question, would YOU as supporters support my tinpot chancers being in L2 next season?

Oh yeah, I get this. I don't agree with it for the reasons Laker has touched upon. I don't think it would be a landslide were it to go to a vote of League 2 clubs. Plenty of returned BELTs and tinpotters in this division now who know how hard it is to get out of the fifth tier.

Yeah and all those sides know how easy it would be to return if it was 3 down, as long as its down to EFL clubs to decide they will never vote for 3 down.

I'd only accept 3 up 3 down if the National League was salary capped. An absolute joke how Solihull, Fylde, Harrogate and the like are spending daft wages on tiny gates. The National League is causing as much wage inflation at this level as lower league overspenders like Bury did and so it's time it was regulated.

But they should want it. There is no sporting reason for it only being 2 up/2 down - it only remains as a form of protectionism by EFL members. I doubt this would happen but I’d hope my club would support 3 up/3 down even if we were ultimately to become a victim of it.

I agree, it’s 3 down in every other division why not league 2?

The league is still populated well by sides deemed as “non-league” anyway, so wouldn’t really make much of a difference.

I find it odd that people wouldn’t back it, and suspect it’s mainly fans of “non league” clubs in the league which back it

Take it back to one up/one down.

The best non-league team every year gets to try their hand at League football. Sounds fair to me.

Maybe we could bring back re-election

Swap forest green with stockport
Swap Crawley with torquay
Swap Morecambe with Wrexham
Swap Cheltenham with hartlepool
Swap Stevenage with york

There we go, get some proper clubs back in the league!

*chesterfield and Notts county aren’t eligible for this.

Re-election is unreasonable, but I've always been unwavering on this. I believe getting to the Football League should be seen as the ultimate achievement for a non-league team and that to do so only the best team in non-league should go up.

I also think it would get rid of a lot of financial doping in non-league. When we were promoted in 1999 the only financially doped team in non-league football was Rushden & Diamonds. There then wasn't one for some time until 2 up/2 down came into place - since when only Fleetwood and Crawley have actually won the National League whilst financially doping. Whilst I don't think it will kill them off completely, there won't be half as many in my view because it would be seen as still too difficult to actually gain that important promotion to the Football League.

I know I'm in the extreme minority here, but it's just my view and I don't expect anyone to agree with me, nor do I particularly care.

I’d be up for maybe a compromise on the three up three down question, maybe the German model so two up/down automatically then the 3-7th teams play off maybe as they do now and play the 22nd L2 side in the final.

Perfectly reasoned arguments, I wouldn't agree with everything, I think it has to be two up from NL for the pyramid to be meaningful. Financial doping as you put it, is not desirable and can go horribly wrong, Eastleigh must have spent more than some small countries entire GDP, without success, so far...

We definitely had the going for it mentality for a couple of seasons and spent more proportionally than you could expect from a club of our size. When Crawley and Fleetwood did it, the league was still less professional or competitive, that route was still do-able then. Definitely not a guaranteed route now, although the success of Salford might suggest otherwise, I don't know enough about them to judge! But largely a very difficult task, no matter who you were or are. I'm sure most fans would like to see Wrexhams long exile ended soon.

The irony when we got promotion, was we had learnt to rely on old fashioned ways, like team work is more important than relying on big signings and splashing the cash. So I'm glad in the end we didn't buy our league promotion to the extent some think. So with only two places for promotion it is still incredibly difficult to get its right and get promoted.

I fear for Bury. Knowing the National League management, it's highly likely they will not be admitted in their structure either. Most likely one of the Northern League levels.
