Shitty decision given what he did for them last season, but the quality contrast between the two campaigns is almost surreal. If results don't go their way this weekend and they themselves lose against us on Monday, they could be rock bottom with two thirds of the season gone.

At the end of the day, if the owners genuinely believed they're going down unless they took action, and they think this can be the difference between top flight and Championship football next season, it's sort of understandable. But shitty. Presumably the decision is also based upon them having someone lined up, someone who they have confidence in turning their season around.

Ranieri did wonders last season and I'm sure everyone is grateful for the magic he brought back to the Premier League and English football, but this is absolutely the correct decision by Leicester's board.

His team selections have been bizarre and something isn't right on the pitch. This season compared to last season it seems as though Leicester have become a soft touch, while losing their tactical discipline and ruthlessness on the pitch. They haven't been doing the basics right or any of the things they did well last season. They desperately need someone to come in and shake things up.

He did win them the Premier League, but if you've watched many Leicester games this season then I'm amazed that you'd be angry about this decision.

I can understand the decision, football is a business and after winning the league last season, they have a unique opportunity to capitalise in terms of signing players and managers above their station. Mancini is favourite to be appointed and if you told Leicester fans that they would have someone of his stature in charge a few seasons ago, they would have been delighted. Though, they could have at the very least waited until the second leg was over though after they grabbed the away goal. Sacking him at this point feels like it will destroy team morale.

All that said, I hope they get relegated now.

I see the players had objected to the owners on Thurs about Ranieri. I suppose it's just easier to sack the manager than overpaid players. Hope the owners have put in relegation clauses in the new contracts......

Gutted but totally understand it. We have looked shit all season bar 1 game against Man City. We play worse than we did when we were rooted to the bottom under Pearson. Unfortunately Ranieri hasn't figured out his best 11, the formation to play and signings wise we neglected to sort out the back line and Morgan and Huth have succumb to age and suffered from bizzarely playing a much higher line this season. The Summer signings didnt fit the system. This is pretty much the kind of season many expected for last year. Shame he's not been allowed to see the CL to it's conclusion.
When he joined us he said we'd be his last club. I wonder if we will be.

Leicester City are exactly where they should be in the table and where they should have been last season. They're the reigning champions of England and are a 1-0 win away from progressing in the Champions League.

Laughable that Leicester think they can bring anyone in who can do better with the quite frankly, average group of players they have.

But it means absolute zilch for the club as a footballing entity if its' finances cave in. And that matters no matter how much you want to romanticise football. Ranieri all but said (and clearly demonstrated) he hasn't a clue how he's going to sort it out; and premier league survival is still on the cards. Good decision - so long as they make the right appointment.

He made average defenders look good, Huth and Morgan are completely exposed without him. He allowed Drinkwater to thrive, which in turn allowed Mahrez and Vardy to thrive. A £32 million bargain. Ranieri didn't have the personnel to play the same way as last season, simply because they lost their best player. Though, can't defend the high line they've played with two of the slowest centre backs in the league.

Surely there's a player there that could run around and win the ball in the absence of Kante. They wouldn't finish first but they wouldn't be near to the relegation zone IMO.

Crazy, he's done something that will never happen again last season and for that he should be given the time to turn this around at the very least, especially off the back of a good result in Europe in the week. Fair enough football is a business and it looks precarious but if they were to be relegated it's hardly the end of the world.

Have you considered that maybe it is the quality of how well Kante did this that supplemented the deficiencies of the players around?

Well, that + the psychology aspect (second season syndrome-esque) of what's essentially an 'average at best' group of players anyway. Bar a couple 'world beaters on their day' who just haven't showed.

That was the idea they had when they bought Mendy, he got injured at the start of the season. They then bought Ndidi in January to be their new Kante when that didn't work out...

As sl1k says, the quality of the player matters more than the style of the player. I think there's a good argument that if any of United, City, Spurs or Arsenal bought Kante, they would be top of the league right now instead of Chelsea. He is the difference between Leicester being champions and being lower-mid table. Maybe relegation is a stretch, but their starting XI isn't a top half side without him in my view.

What a dark day for football and just gives me more reason to dislike the Premier League. I live in Leicester and it's interesting chatting with friends and colleagues who support City. No sane fan I know is happy with the decision in the slightest. All the talk of saying that it's a results game and that he had to go is utter tripe. Leicester are where they should be after a ridiculous season last year. Ranieri deserved to at least see out the season for what he's done for the club and for the memories he's made for the fans. What a shame.

What, being 2 points from bottom with 13 games to go is where they should be? Nah. Last season was ridiculous, but their squad with the right handling is easily good enough for middtable, especially if they'd have used the confidence and momentum from last season to good effect.
