'Record' League 2 Crowd

I’ll admit I read this on Stagsnet but apperantly he gave hundreds away to a local company on East Midlands today, and a lot have been given to schools.

He loves the media attention more than Carolyn!

Buildbase bought 400 for their staff and I think the guy from there was interviewed about it, they’re probably referring to that.

As far as I’m aware none have been given to schools for this one - we’ve already tried that earlier in the season against Forest Green.

Oi Conks, didn’t Mansfield do one of those ‘you decide what you want to pay’ games in an attempt to fill Field Mill? All non season ticket holders could pay whatever they saw fit on the day.

Fair play to Coventry though in giving free tickets to kids get 'em hooked when they're young and you have them life.

Not hard to fill your ground when it has a limited capacity. Fair play though your crowds have risen significantly I'd much rather be playing Lincoln than a Crawley

Given how backward Mansfield are with pricing for children (well from about 8-16) I think it's great that any clubs get involved with young fans, and it was a cracking effort by all concerned at Notts.

They were in the division 3 south according to the football league website and the attendance was 469 against Luton in 1930

Presumably back in those days communication wasn't good enough for everyone to know how massive Luton were.

It probably will be - this is our 12th year (I think) in this league so we've been to some of these grounds many times over. Our fans were already looking forward to going somewhere different before the ticket offer. I know there's 3 coaches full and a number staying in the area. If we can get over 500 that's quite high for us - another win on Tuesday would be a great help

We had 18,700 on against Exeter back in 96, a game I was turned away from as it was full so maybe that figure just includes figures since the division was renamed to League Two.

Could be wrong but didn't Wolves get a massive crowd down here once?

It sounds like Palace v Millwall for a game in the old Fourth Division has the record...at a mind boggling 37774 in the 60/61 season.

Showing my age here, but I can remember us playing Barnsley at Oakwell in 1979 at this level, last game of the season and both teams were promoted. I'm sure the attendance was around 22 or 23000.

Just checked my Mariners Complete Record book when I got home and the attendance that day was 21,261. Not quite as high as I thought but not bad for a 4th Division game.

It's great to see different initiaitives and people finally realising there is no money to be made in empty seats. We would have had the away end empty on Sat as Crawley with a small following would have been in the corner of the east stand anyway so we did £10 for adult & kid to local schools and about 800 took the deal, all spending money in the shop, concourses etc. Makes sense especially when our crowds are down as low as they are now

Yeah., Oakwell had a massive away terrace back then. I remember that they had an open air toilet at the top where you could stand whilst having a piss and still watch the game.

It was a bit lively at our game too as the coach I went on went back with half as many windows and half as many people on it as loads got nicked for fighting.

I am sure those who are still hanging on to the the boycott are staying away, but it is quite obvious not many are actually boycotting SISU. 45,000 wouldn't have gone to Wembley and 8000 wouldn't have gone to MK if that was the case.

The Not One Penny More fans can technically go on Saturday if they find a free ticket!

The original boycott when we moved to Sixfields was of everything going towards SISU. I remember buying tickets directly from the opposition club for away games to stop SISU getting a couple of quid from booking fees.
When we moved back to the Ricoh, some carried on the boycotts, but most just continued to stay away from the majority of games.

For Wembley and MK Dons, SISU/CCFC got near half of the ticket money.

I don't go to every home game anymore, not because I am boycotting, but because the matchday experience is awful and not worth the cost from London. I have missed just one away game this year though.

Not personally as I would travel wherever to watch the club away. The Ricoh is a horrible place to watch football when there are only 7000 people there, costs £25 for a ticket and £4.70 a pint. Others? Maybe so. We are without doubt the biggest bandwagon club in the country. The fact we are struggling to sell 7000 tickets for a home game last week despite the fact this is the best possible chance of promotion in nearly 50 years shows that there are problems deeper.

A lot of Cov fans use SISU as an excuse when in reality they wouldn't turn up in league two no matter who the owners were.

I'm sure there are some who stay away due to SISU but with Cov fans there will always be an excuse not to go. When we moved to the Ricoh first it was "it's not in the city centre" or "it's impossible to park" and then SISU came along and everyone has a ready made excuse.

Even when we were in the prem our crowds were fairly poor.
