It's starting to look increasingly possible that we could lose two venerable League clubs this season, Notts and Orient. If Tranmere fail to get promoted then that's three massive clubs in the Conference next season. Just looking around the other relegation candidates, Notts, Orient and another good old club in Crewe all showing a worrying lack of belief, ideas and character. Newport may have some catching up to do but if those three clubs don't change things then Newport probably will catch them up and survive. Morecambe, Cheltenham, Hartlepool, Accrington etc all with the ability to get results it seems enough to keep them out of serious trouble.

I'm not feeling as confident about our ability to pick up points a you are, our next four are Mansfield (A) Luton (A) Plymouth (H) Colchester (A) we could very well find ourselves bottom 2 by the time March rolls around, only positive being that Nathan Thomas is back to full fitness, the fella wins games on his own and has done already this season.

Are we sure Danny Webb isn't actually Boreham Wood's manager, Luke Garrard?

We were pretty fucking good today. First time in about 4 years we've properly battered someone. 4-0 at half time completely flattered Grimsby.

If this doesn't give us the kick to put a run together and pull away from the bottom, nothing will. Fingers crossed.

This was definitely true of us pre-Nolan and Hardy, but we're at least fairly organised and willing to fight for it now. May well not be enough because of the position we got ourselves in to, mind.

What's generally reckoned to be enough points to stay up in L2?

Watching this with interest, with both possibilities in mind for my club.

50 should easily be enough, but Barnet went down with 51 and Brovers went down with 50.

Thanks. Really can't see Orient or Newport reaching 50. Reckon 45 will be enough, which means five wins (plus a draw) for us out of 16.

EDIT: Ok, had a quick look. Starting last season, the side that finished second bottom went down with the following points (i.e one more point than this or same points but better GD would have been sufficient to stay up): 34, 41, 50, 51, 44, 47, 44, 37 (but would have been 41 were it not for Luton's points deduction), 42, 36, 49, 40, 45, 48. Beyond this only one dropped.

Averages out at 44 (well, 43.7).

If I had to call two to go down right now it'd be Cheltenham and Orient.

I genuinely think Westley will keep Newport up. Us and Notts should be fine (famous last words) as I reckon we'll push on away from our respective slumps and I believe John Coleman will keep Accrington up in the end as well.

Hartlepool are a side in freefall though and after getting rid of a few in the transfer window, it wouldn't surprise me if they went instead of Cheltenham.

And we stayed up with 50 on goal difference sending Rovers down :bravo:Living among Rovers fans in Somerset it was an absolute joy even though my Gashead mates wanted to lynch me :lol:

We've lost five first teamers this transfer window and brought in two kids in on loan with little first team experience between them and it really shows, other than Crewe I can't see us picking up another point this month.

Chairman is more interested in building houses than a football team, our manager hasn't even signed his contract wherever the fuck that leaves us? our charmed life at the bottom dodging relegation looks like it's about to end, just gotta keep hoping there are two more shite teams than us..again.

6 points out of 6, we've eclipsed our awful points and wins total from last season with victory tonight and Dave Artell has us playing like a very good side again.

4 wins should be more than enough now in our last 15 games.

5 wins to be certain. Still only a 6 point gap to the bottom two, which is disappointing after two wins on the trot. One game at a time but there's a certain sense of relief right now and a feeling we've got to look forwards and, in the words of fucking John Bowler, "make sure it never happens again".

Relegation scrap is hotting up. Hartlepool dropping like a stone and Cheltenham lose a couple on the bounce.

Orient picked up a very impressive victory last night which makes this Saturday's game at the weekend very tasty.

Hartlepool look to be in big trouble but then so did Crewe a few days ago.

We've started showing some genuine character and willingness to fight for it after how ever many months, but it looks like Orient might have as well. Saturday is a really big game, neither can really afford to lose.

Westley seems to have got Newport organised but they just aren't scoring any goals.

Don't think I can see Newport picking up enough points to save themselves from relegation, and as we are now nailed on to be relegated, the rest of you can all breath a sigh of relief.

I don't know if it's the lingering after-effects of last night's Valentines Day Masseycre, but even I'm going into the remainder of the season with an extremely mild sense of optimism that our youth team and assorted hangers-on might get us out of this yet. The best thing about it is how much it'll upset Becchetti if we manage to stay up.

Thing I'm clinging on to: Doncaster aside, we haven't got many of the good sides left to play. April will be tough, but it's all in our own hands with Notts, Cheltenham, Stevenage, Newport, Cleethorpes and Accy coming up in our next 6.

The natural Conference order hath decreed that Cheltenham are gonna serve the remainder of their time in the National League for the crime of getting promoted too quickly.

Nah this relegation battle is bonkers, we're doing our bit by picking up 6 points out of 6 and we've played 5 of the Top 8 home and away. We've still got an awful lot of lesser sides to play and that's why I think we should be fine. A win at Blackpool on Saturday will re-ordain us into the world of mid-table mediocrity.

I still think Newport will stay up, 2 from Cheltenham, Orient and Hartlepool it'll be.

If Newport continue to just be difficult to beat I think they'll stay up, target for them is to scrape maybe three or four wins from somewhere to go with all these draws and they should finish on about 50. Like Hartlepool the other season, they'll get some belief from being the team coming from behind and from their outspoken manager and I expect they'll get the wins they need from the teams around them.

I think Morecambe and above will be fine and Crewe are probably close to leaving this thread. Of those below that, we haven't spoken much of Accrington, I guess it's assumed they have too much about them but they do need to start picking up more points or they could be this season's Bristol Rovers.

My November prediction of Wycombe and Exeter to drop looks some way off at the moment.

Bearing in mind that I've experienced relegation and how bad you've got to be to be relegated (also under the influence of a chairman asset-stripping us - seemingly like Orient) and you've got to be bad!

We played Hartlepool on Saturday and they were beyond hopeless, i'd be very worried if I were them with the run of form they're on - that said successive away games at an in-form Mansfield then Luton aren't exactly easy.

Newport seem to have been down there all season, and results didn't go their way last night - their best hope will be their paddy-field.

It's hard to say whether County just have a mini-revival or whether they push on or not. I can't see them picking up less points than the 3 below them.

I'd think Newport with realistically either Cheltenham and Orient with an outside chance of County.

Either way, there's no reason 50 will be the mark required.

I wouldn't want to be relying on it if we were down there, but 45 should be sufficient.

Well I actually settled on 49 but didn't want to sound like I'd done something as geeky as maths to come up with my forecast.

Hartlepool are the team that should be concerned at the moment. The new manager doesn't seem to have changed their fortunes much. Where's Ronnie Moore when they need him?
