Poole are in a similar boat as Ferriby, ie looking at being demoted without ground improvements, let alone being promoted.

I think theyve been forced to scramble around for funding improvements to be allowed to stay in the conf south.

Ferriby's doesnt look too bad in comparison!

Then again if they got promotion doesnt that act as a loophole and give them another year to get it up to standard of the division they are in?

We were part-time when we first won the Conference in 1991 but the other two times we won the Conference we were full-time.

It makes you think are likes of poole hoying loads of money at playing squad as opposed to ground or are they just enjoying good luck and haveing a good team on small budget

I remember Truro last season being told they had to add more seats or they couldn't take part in the play offs. They only had something like 250 seats, but needed to have at least 500.

So the FA seem to have different rules for different people....it doesn't make any sense.

We were part time when we won it both times. John Askey stayed part time when we went up into the league for a season as well.

I'm pretty sure back then everyone was part time.

I thought teams have been pro in league 2 since automatic promotion came in. Would be great ntresting if Dover went up surely there manager would go

I don't think that's the case for Poole. From what I know they used to have a much more substantial ground but they were forced to leave it some years ago and were very close to being finished as a club. They've had to start again from scratch, hence their basic ground.

Technically we will have been operating as a professional club once we gained promotion, however I know Askey wasn't in a place to pass over the management of his cleaning company (still has it today AFAIK), so was only part time for the first season. He turned fully pro the next year following promotion to what is now League 1.

Quite a few players at league 2 level run or co run their own businesses.

Personally I'd make the rules that you have to improve your ground to the required standard within 3 years. It gives the smaller clubs enough time to gradually raise the money for ground improvements, if they get relegated within that time the clock can reset, and it doesn't have too much of an effect on the transfer budget of new sides (I know for a fact we've had to operate with a tiny player budget this year because of paying for the ground improvements).

After 28 games we were 5 points clear of the relegation places. After 34 games we are 6 points (effectively 7 points with our goal difference) away from being out of them. This is one crazy relegation battle.

Yorks problem seems to be too many draws and conceeding too many late goals. Still hope for them

After last nights results I think its nailed on for Ferriby York and southport.

Conference North is looking rather exciting next year though. If the Worcester get relegated and Kidderminster promoted the travel costs Brackley/Gloucester will be a joke.

Adding the potential for Blyth and Spenny/Whitby getting promoted then its going to be proper northern

Fair play to NFU. I thought they'd be pretty much relegated by now and it's amazing that a team who have scored only 23 in 36 are still in with a shout of surviving.

Although they've lost the most amount of games, they rarely draw. As York are aware of at the minute, draws are pretty useless down there, especially at this stage of the season.

Ferriby have been great at getting results at teams around them / in the relegation scrap.

The downside is that points from any one else is rare (apart from Gateshead)

Fair play to Ferriby for getting 10 wins with only 23 goals scored all season.

They have vastly overachieved, Housham has done a superb job with that squad.

Tell me about bloody Ferriby. Guiseley were all over them at their place but they somehow emerged with a 3-2 win, then they robbed us at Nethermoor 1-2 a couple of weeks ago after being a goal down. Given the balance of the play in the two games I can't believe they doubled us.

It was fun going to their place though; not the sort of place you expect to find a football club at all.

Which is weird really because at Trinity, when Swann was there, he probably didn't do as well as he should have done.

Accepting that Southport and NFU are probably gone, the other 2 places will be taken by any 2 from 8. I include us because we've been in freefall since Christmas and many of our fans have just realised that gaining the 4 or 5 points we need to stave off relegation may be beyond us. The manager seems to think we'll be all right, but people are beginning top realise that he doesn't have the tactical know how to make a difference. The game at Torquay a week on Saturday will be massive. Lose that and the tide will definitely have turned.

Those two games in hand are a bonus though, surely we are at greater risk?

I think one of our games in hand is Lincoln (a) not a hope, and Barrow (h) who we've a 100% record against (losses that is).

We really need to win on Saturday, a 6 pointer and we have the hardest run in (I believe every match after Woking is against someone currently in the top half, including the current top 3 as our last 3)

Apologies for the (very) late response, but I don't read the relegation thread for obvious reasons :2thumb:

I think if we were to get promoted Kinnear would stay but possibly delegate more of the day to day business to Jake Leberl, who I understand is very involved in all areas anyway. Looks to me like Kinnear is giving Leberl an apprenticeship in being Dover manager.
