Dan Jones was the same for us, brilliant at first, and tailed off dramatically.
Duffy had a good six month spell, but then thought he was baresi and then reverted to type. I wasn’t disappointed when he left.
Our attendances are about right for what we are, a midtable team and there’s lots of negative vibes around vale regarding our owner.
If we sacked aspin we’d be no better off, we’re a rag tag and bob tail outfit of NL triers (who are doing ok in the main) and fading league 2 players.
Aspin, for me, is getting the best out of them, and our position in the league is as good as we could hope for considering the last few seasons.
Notts if anything show that splashing the cash guarantees you nothing, Dennis was anonymous, i’m glad we didn’t spunk money on him.
Although we did on Miller, and he is being shown up as non league, unfortunately.

Dan Jones was a fanny. Never forget him pussying out of tackles at Wolves. Then the cowardly act against Loft which made the back pages of the national press.

I liked Duffy, he was decent for us but I believe he had some problems in his personal life when his form dropped. Part of that legendary 2013 squad and stuck with us through the Ryder issue unlike a certain someone.

In terms of our squad in fairness to Aspin he knows how to spot a player, the non league triers have shown themselves to be very good at this level. (Aspin was the man who discovered Jamie Vardy and Lee Gregory for example).

Hannant is being linked with Bolton and stepped up from non league with ease... although his goal celebration needs work! What was that!

Vassell had a difficult debut against Lincoln but did well against their best player and surprised me which how well he did going forward considering he is mainly a centre half.

Oyeleke is class, absolute class and easily one of the best midfielders at this level, stupidly we signed him on a one year deal but with him back next week we will have a good chance to push on.

Rawlinson was decent again yesterday and has been another find from TNS too. Looks competent.

Overall it’s a nice change from signing 34 year old journeymen like Tonge and Pugh who were great players.... ten years ago

Not to mention Conlon and Clarke who’ve come in unknown and been very good. I think recruitment wise we’ve done very well but need to sort the front end in January or certainly next summer to push on where we want to be. Keeper sorted, defence sorted, central midfield sorted from last year, we’ve got Pope but just need to get the creativity side sorted. Either way after signing 60 players in 2 and a half years we should finally have a summer of tweaking rather than overhauling.

Next season is the one fans will demand we challenge.

we played quite well yesterday. Expect us to have an invitation to join the proposed European league. Build the dream...

It would be so much weaker without the Vale, everyone in Barca, Munich and Paris dreams of a trip to Boslem.

Due to their poor form we are taking Real Madrid’s spot and being renamed Vale Madrid.

Jesus wept makes me shudder! I paint an instant picture of the person who uses such a phrase. But seeing as I’m on holiday (again) in Morocco , i’ll give you the benefit of the doubt on this occasion.

Looks like we dodged a bullet with Dennis and saved a shed load of cash too, completely anonymous.
The Winger was clearly the stand out player as he always was for Crawley.
At least Nolan didn't waste all the money

To be fair Miller hasn’t hit the ground running either yet. Wish he’d bloody click.

We didn't pay 150 grand for Miller nor pay him a Kings ransom in wages so slightly different scenarios

Anyone would think we’d signed the lad for £5m and were paying him £20k a week :D

We’re less than 3 months into the season so I’ll probably wait a little longer before writing him off, especially as he’s barely played so far due to an injury in pre-season and the good form of Jon Stead (and he still has as many league goals as Miller!)

Anyway, sounds like we were pretty pap so I’ll take the point, given we played better v Swindon and MKD and got sod all. The patience of some fans seems to be wearing thin with Kewell tho, a convincing performance and win v Oldham is needed really.

The point i was trying to make is 150K is a lot of money at this level, a real lot of money. Reportedly on about 3K a week which again is a lot of money.
You were pap, but a point is good when playing like that. We all have points we don't deserve or vice versa.

Got to say though this clap trap from Managers is annoying, i'm still to be convinced by our manager but he is as honest as the day is long.
Even when Crewe ( deservedly ) got a 94th minute equaliser he was gracious enough to say we didn't deserve to win.
The tripe Kewell spouts is ridiculous, he has done it with both Crawley and yourselves and it is all a tad embarrassing.

To be fair if Kewell said what he did after we beat Crawley in August then I would understand as we mugged them that day... maybe he just forgot!

Fair enough, although I’m not sure either is that big, there must be a fair few players in this league on 2.5k-3k per week, some even at Vale Park. Dennis has shown he knows where the net is in the past, even in poor sides, so it’s too soon to say anyone ‘dodged a bullet’ etc IMO, although I am not sure where/how he fits into our current system to prove his quality right now.

As for Kewell, yes his comments are silly - he gave a similar interview recently after Bury tore us a new one and won 4-0.

I'd doubt any are on 3k currently to be fair, Pope was on 4k in his previous spell when we won promotion and he was breaking records to ward off interest but he took a pay cut this time and was topped up with his pay off from Bury.

I'd guess Legge, Miller and Pope are on decent money but probably no more than £2000-£2500 from what I recall Dennis wanted over 4k per week and Smurf was happy to pay it but Aspin didn't want to use that much of the budget on one player.
