Neil Aspin? When we were managerless last season he was one of the top prospects, seems to have all gone a bit Pete Tong for him. If you're looking at Conference managers though, Darren Edmondson at Barrow might be out of a job before too long after being given a rather harsh ultimatum by his chairman in spite of doing pretty well in his first season in the Conference.

Haven't Barrow spent an absolute ton yet sit lower mid table? Either way, for your lot Barrow may be a hunting ground but those types don't move 300 miles to Cambridge!

As far as lower down appointments go, Braintree's manager, formerly of Concord, is the chosen 'up and coming' gamble option. Although he's part time currently.

The reason that makes me think Clough might be even a little bit realistic is that he's had plenty of chances to get back into League One since he got sacked (must be 7 or 8 clubs) plus a couple at the bottom of the Championship, and he also supposedly spoke to York (if not properly interviewed). The only thing in my mind against it is if he's hanging on for a shot at the Forest job, which we may find out sooner rather than later. As I said before overall I still think it's more unlikely than it is likely but I don't think it's completely ridiculous given the position the club is in now, if it'd been this time 12 months ago (and he'd been unemployed) then yes it would've been a ridiculous suggestion.

As always one of the issues with non-league managers is them having a decent part-time job, depends how ambitious this Cowley (think that's his name) is though, he's pretty young so you'd assume he'll want to progress and so will have to bite the bullet and go full time at some point. With the sort of squad we have at the moment I'd rather not have a complete Football League novice on this ocassion mind, it sounds like the players need someone that they'll respect immediately.

Ainsworth would be my first choice but unlikely considering he's recently signed a new deal. Although his budget is very small he seems to be doing very well.

I'm quite fond of the sheer arrogance in the Ainsworth and Wilder suggestions. Why would Ainsworth want to leave a club he's got history with, a big budget and a favourite for us....without us paying a fortune in the first place?

big budget? seriously? we must be in the bottom third. A small and reasonably young squad, we are not big payers at all.

Ainsworth will leave us sooner or later, I'm sure if we got promoted under him people would be sniffing around.

I think he's achieved a lot here, but in all honesty I wouldn't cry if he left just because I'd love to see us stop doing all the relentless gamesmanship bullshit, one of the great things about lower league football is (or at least was?) that it's relatively honest - so the sooner we can cut out all this ref-surrounding, diving, timewasting crap the better. And I'm sorry to say I think it will take Ainsworth's departure for that to happen.

I would be gutted if he left us now. He has done a great job in difficult circumstances and I honestly believe with the squad we have in place we could fight for an automatic spot or at least the playoffs. Think him leaving would be a massive blow, the unity amongst the manager/fans/squad is at an all time high, would hate to see that go with him leaving so soon after a (hopefully) takeover.

When one looks at the kind of problem the Cobblers are facing, it doesn't take a genius to realise that any potential takeover will be far from plainsailing, unfortunately. We're talking about a L2 club here, and not some fancy PL or CHP side, as these type of clubs always have several interested parties who'd like to take over, especially foreign investors.

The way I see it, and I'm sorry Cobbler fans, is that the club will look to survive til the summer, and then see where they are then. In other words, I think they're looking at survival above anything else at this point, as it should be. Although I think promotion is looking less likely now, it would obviously be a great selling point should they somehow get it.

Now I hate 'robbing' clubs in distress, but it would be different if its Wilder himself who's asking for a move, perhaps in order to secure his future. We don't know if he's even getting paid after all.

Shaun Derry closing in on the job and was seen taking notes at the previous game.

Derry benefited massively in his first season by having 3 of the best players in the division that season in his team - Sheehan, Campbell-Rice and Grealish. He then assembled one of the worst Notts teams I have ever seen. Its hard to judge Derry, he always gave it his all and he always cared.

Apparently Wilder was up to his old tricks again and was set for the job only to pull out, but don't shoot the messenger I'm only repeating what I've heard from others, not important enough to have any direct connections myself....

There were probably better options than Derry out there but I think there were most certainly worse ones, I'd much rather take a punt on him than the likes of Peter Taylor and Danny Wilson that were being thrown around at some point in the last couple of weeks. He's still very early in his management career, so hopefully that terrible run he had at the end of his tenure at Notts County was just a steep learning curve, seems to be very highly thought of (and is presuambly why he got the job rather than his actual track record) so hopefully he can fulfil some of that potential here. Famous last words, I don't think we're in any danger at all of being relegated, so I think it's worth a shot, I'd certainly rather we had a go with Derry than stick with what we were enduring under Money.

Tough one to gauge though, he came in and did well of course but how much that was to do with him 'instilling belief' and how much was actually the fact we ended the season with one of the best teams in paper in League 1, I don't know.

I think he's a good enough character, man-manager but you have to seriously question if he's ever going to have the acumen to succeed. Last year was catastrophic, if it weren't for his status among the fans then God knows how Notts fans would have remembered him. I've never seen a Notts manager just completely lose the plot like he did - the signings, the team selections, the playing ALL THOSE FUCKING OLD SLOW CLOGGERS.

Depends. When he had Grealish and Campbell-Ryce on the wings we were direct but attacking and entertaining. Then he built his own squad and we became pitifully dull.

Cambridge have a good side and I expect he'll get a lot more out of them than Money was. The problem will be when he's allowed to make some of his own signings.
