Have you got the players for the new manager to work with? Was Wilcox underachieving with the squad, do you fellas reckon?

Not really been following York.

We're carrying some significant dead wood but Wilcox certainly hasn't been getting the best out of them. His lack of tactical nouse was a big problem. At full strength and properly organised we should be mid-table.

We've been pissing around with wing-backs when we dont have a decent one at the club. We started one game with 3 left-backs in the line-up, none of whom should be anywher near the side. We sometimes play 3 different formations in one game.

He is the game who made that great start at Scunthorpe isn't he but that seems to have very much been a honeymoon period!

We were warned by Scunny fans but the chairman wasn't listening.

This'll please our fans. We have an update every time a team sacks a manager and it's not Burnett.

A lot of those games were draws when he had that 28 game unbeaten record at Scunny. His tactics were shocking and the amount of points dropped from winning positions was one of the highest in the league and we eventually crawled over the line and got promoted. He was clueless and he was lucky that the league was so poor. It's a shame that things haven't worked out for him at York though, but i'm not really that surprised.

He did a wonderful job at Scunthorpe but York haven't shown any real improvement, and the start to the season has been pretty dire, so it's not a surprise.

Don't you go down as well, let's get rid of some of the southern/London clubs instead

It was the only possible decision after our recent set of shambolic and gutless performances. He's been a bit unlucky with injuries of late with the entire first choice midfield out, but the football has been awful, attendances have been dropping and the atmosphere at games has been getting worse and worse. He seems to have an eye for the right players, but then doesn't seem to know how to use them properly.

Thanks for keeping us up last season Russ, and good luck for the future, but I'm afraid your time was up at York.

I've been to two games this season and both have involved York. Both times they were pretty poor. Based on this robust analysis, I think the decision is the correct one.

Sounds just like our manager, except he's been given his third season to reduce attendances further with a horrible style of football.

I don't really know what sort've manager York need, tough one to say.

they seem to have real problems at home for a while, which is strange because their ground is that close to pitch, crumbling type of ground you'd usually associate with a strong home form.

but with their new ground soon to be built they desperately need kept in the FL.

An absolute shambles of a manager with the tactical astuteness of a plum. Made a rod for his own back with his 'catch us if you can' comments before the season, and the much heralded arrival of his assistant worked wonders- oh wait. Some of the players we have (Flinders, Berrett, Penn, Coulson, Oliver, Hyde, Thompson, Summerfield) have the potential to play very well - and they have - and, if we can get them fit and in the same team, we could do well. Wilcox could spot a decent player, but he didn't have the tactical ability to put these players into a cohesive team. Under Worthington, a team was built to be the sum greater than it's parts with a tactical plan that worked, sometimes with spectacular results- play offs, anyone? Under Wilcox, the team functioned the opposite way. Some players who had worked with such cohesion in the play off year looked like strangers, with teams put on to the pitch lacking any form of passion, desire or fight. This is what a new manager needs to instill very soon after coming in. If this is the case, the attendances will rise again. We aren't a bunch of fans who want league titles, we don't demand the play offs- we want a team we can get behind and a team we can be proud of. This wasn't the case under Wilcox, hence why the attendances have dropped dramatically and the apathy around the club grew to a stage where it was unviable for the board to keep him on. I am glad he has gone, and while sometimes people say "how can you guarantee the new man will be better", the simple response is that it can't be worse.

Whoever comes in will need to hit the ground running. Yorks fixtures next month look really tough
Barnsley, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Orient, Accrington

In stark contrast to this month's - Barnet, Dagenham, Wimbledon and Crawley. 1 point from 9 so far. Even with the fixtures next month, I'd back us to better that.

Never, ever, wanted him. He has an eye for a decent player and may work as a staff member but he's completely inept and out of his depth as a manager. We're not promotion candidates by any stretch, but we have decent enough players to be mid table quite comfortably if you play them properly. He constantly used players who aren't good enough and he even tried getting rid of, he played guys in stupid positions, he failed to utilise their strengths, he alienated them to the point they didn't want to play for him anymore.

Worse of all was his abrasive and defensive attitude towards the fans. He never endeared himself, which meant the venom was out for quite some time.

Who do you fancy then York fans?

I've just had a quick look at the odds and I'm surprised to not see Paul Cox's name linked at all. Sean O'Driscoll's name is on there, he'd be fantastic for most clubs at this level. Phil Brown would be good. However it's that early, these are the names that always get thrown about.

Ian Baraclough really wanted the Mansfield job when Murray got it. Maybe he might chuck his CV in? He won a few trophies with Sligo in his 2 years as gaffer and but then got Motherwell nearly relegated in the Scottish Prem.

Danny Wilson seems to be a popular choice, with mentions of Nigel Clough and Richard Cresswell as permanent as well. I'd be in preference of Danny Wilson of those three, Stuart Gray intrigues me though as well

Nigel Clough was alright at Burton but played horrible football with Sheffield United and Derby, I feel as if he's living off the name a bit and will never reach the heights of league one again. I wouldn't be bothered about him.

Wilson would be good, he used to drink in a bar I worked at in Chesterfield whilst he was managing Sheffield United, he's a rate nice bloke!

Funny that, we are all saying that about Clough. I think we would be happy with a manager who can set a team up with a clear plan and tactics after the last year of Wilcox. If someone can come in and sort a defensive system, we will be fine- we are scoring goals this season for once, usually it's the defence that's decent.

local paper reporting that, by noon, 103 people had applied for the job and that it is our first open process for application since we recruited Billy McEwan in 2005

Danny Wilson would be a good choice. He did a belting job for us, gave us our record unbeaten run, got us promoted, but he got bored and buggered off to Swindon. He seems to have a habit of moving on on a whim.

Flinders has been in goal now for a fair old few sacked managers ....He manages to make goals look like they are not his fault with the dive after its past him trick ...He rarely earns any points for teams and everyone knows he's easily beat in the corners ...signing him never helped Wilcox one bit

Give it up. We could have David De Gea in goal, none of it matters when you have a defence that effectively stands still and lets people walk through them for free shots on goal.

We've supposedly had 160 applications already, not sure how many of those are from people on here pissing about though.
