How about Mike Flanagan? Charlton legend and available since his recent sacking from Brentwood Town, I'm sure he'd appreciate the opportunity to go to a club at a similar level... :fish:

John Collins the latest name to pop up.

Not really sure what to make of that one, not convinced he has the right attributes or temperament to work with these owners either.

Just had a look at one of your message boards.

Whilst its a nice picture of a smiling Keith Hill, if he wanted to try and manage a shambolic mess then Blackburn and Bolton are a lot closer....

Saw that earlier too.

Not reading too much in to it because so far I've only seen it in Lancashire news.

Edit: Tell a lie, it's down here now too.

They're going down the right avenues now, but I feel the owners have created such a bad reputation for the club that most are put off.

That's the impression we seem to be getting but we've seen this happen before with players.

Experienced Championship players close to signing yet never happens.

I'm still not convinced and as you rightly say, what sane manager would want to work here anyway?

Why not go for Phil Brown from Southend? Or just get on and appoint a Belgium!

Tend to think if anyone applies and agrees with the owners on how the club is to be run must, by definition, be desperate and totally useless.

Would hate to have that egotistical prat anywhere near the club.

As for a Belgian, I'm sure it's only a matter of time.

Russell Slade now 1/5 with the bookies.

A bit meh to be honest, his last two jobs he was working for mad owners so doesn't feel me with confidence if he's happy to work for another.

Just fed up now, it's been four weeks now we've been without a manager, other clubs have had managers leave and replaced them in that time. Chris Wilder has told us to do one, joined Sheff United and signed two players for Christ sake.

And he got out of Orient at the first chance!

True enough.

If the club are true to their word and leave him in charge of team matters, it'll be fine. Certainly a step up from the crap we've had in charge for the last 2 and a half years.

The concerns are, if he's happy to work for this lot, is he happy to do as he's told? and he seems like a nearly man to me, got Leyton Orient in a great position in League One before bottling it when it mattered. Missed out on play-offs with Cardiff.

I'm getting past the point of caring now to be honest, I just want someone in place so we can start sorting out the team, as it stands we're getting left behind.

Charlton could do a lot worse than Slade, he knows the league very well and has a lot of experience. It all depends on if the owners leave him to get on with his job.

I thought Slade was moving upstairs at Cardiff.

Sounds like he'd rather stay in management.

Barry O'Mahony, some freelance journalist is reporting that it should be announced next week after the club and Slade have been in talks on the phone as he is on holiday at the moment.

Although he has had some limited success at a couple of clubs, he has never had a single promotion as manager of any club he has managed has he?

Slade would be a good appointment in terms of stability at your football club, he's good at getting everyone pulling in the same direction on and off the pitch.

The only question mark on him, is that he is a nearly man - 3 playoff final defeats and narrowly missed out on the playoffs with Cardiff. If he was a braver manager in terms of going for wins and playing more attack minded players in certain games, he'd probably have a promotion on his CV by now. You'd get top 6 in League One with him in charge - whether or not he'd get you over the line or not, we will have to see!

If Slade does go to Charlton, Dean Cox will be off from us and maybe Jay Simpson as well - He got the best out of Cox in his time here and both him and Simpson are the only two decent players we have left and are both in the last years of their contracts and they won't sign another - Plus it will mean neither player gets to uproot their families and they'll get pay rises and get to play for bigger clubs. Watch this space.

As above, when Slade came to us the playing staff were a shambles, he managed to sort it out in 14/15 and then get a bang average championship squad very nearly into the play-offs. The only negatives he has imo is his dependency on an underdog attitude, he just won't send a team out to dominate and overrun an opponent. The other is his unwillingness to give youth a chance, something which annoyed fans down here more than the football itself at times.

I still think he would do a decent job for you guys though, there is definitely worse out there!

Hmmmm, he gave a few youth teamers a chance with us - Moses Odubajo being one!

We're a long way off from thinking about promotion.

After we have just appointed Steve Head as new chief scout, Meire says "We are working on pulling a squad together to withstand the challenges of a long League One season"

Think that sums up the ambition nicely.

Yeah, one of my concerns earlier in the thread is that he seems more of a nearly man but as I say above, I don't think many Charlton fans are expecting us to be near the top anyway so as long as he does enough to keep us as far away from the bottom four as possible, I'd take that for now.

I would be more than happy to have Dean Cox here, I wouldn't be surprised if we go for him IF Slade really is in full control of signings and the team.

Two points on playing the youth.

1) Worrying as this has always been a big part of Charlton, as a club we are very proud of our academy and the players it produces so would be a shame if Slade does come in and turns a blind eye to it.

2) With these owners, he may well have no choice but to play youngsters. We've had lots of the kids come through and play for us over the last two seasons under all of the different managers to try and compensate for the utterly woeful players they have brought in.

Where's the actual quote from her saying that? It's made up CARD propaganda most likely.

Well Terminator said he played them at Orient so maybe he didn't fancy the youngsters down here so much.
