Looks like Shrewsbury at League 1 level or above is the perfect club for him then - perhaps he'll end staying there for years. I confess I expected us to win the League after Operation Promotion and was highly critical of some of his decisions - particularly early on in the season; he should have brought in a loan keeper after Jimmy Mck went down with viral meningitis, missing most of pre-season training. He cost us half of dozen points with errors and the defence got jittery as a result. He was also tactically outfoxed by Gary Johnson in the 2 key games with Cheltenham. On the other hand, if you looked at the stats, we dominated possession and had good shots on target number in most games, we played decent if somewhat unambitious football. In the wide open spaces of Wembley we came good just at the right time.To be fair I was fairly critical of Hurst during his time at Grimsby as well. I always maintained he's the perfect manager for a side with minimal expectations, i.e. staying up or a mid-table finish, because he'll get the most out of fairly average players. But when he's in charge of a team who are expected to win the league or at least challenge for the title, as he was at Grimsby, he struggled. To his credit, he eventually got them up but there was more than a bit of fortune involved.
