Time to start talking about Neil Smith on this thread. I think he'll get a few games with the new players he signed this week, but if results don't improve, I think the powers that be might make a decision soon.
Be careful what you wish for.
If Smith goes Saunders could end taking over & he's quite the downgrade.

No this is a whole new set, they've already said they'll pay a fee for the right manager if they have to but no non league manager is worth even close to forking out 100K for, that is an absolute crazy town figure to put on someone.

Is that not just Havant telling Hartlepool to fuck off? Like with Cox, it could be the remaining two years of his £50k a year contract - which they want Hartlepool to pay up.

Could be the case, this magic figure of compensation is supposedly written into his contract, don't think it's a reflection of his wages.

It will be this, managers have a compensation figure written into their contracts. That's bitten us on the arse twice in the last year.

He's about 70 and hasn't properly managed for years. Wasn't he the DoF at Cambridge or something.

He has experience at least of this level and was working for Newcastle as well in some capacity for a few years so may have knowledge of North East based players.

For me his downsides are he comes across as a right miserable git, always complains that he wants more money for players and has been known to have a go with fans in his post game interviews.

He gave up on that Solihull team last season, because he knew he couldn't organise what he had there IMO. I will not forget his final game with Solihull (A 4-0 home loss to Fylde IIRC) and in his post match interview he basically laughed at the squad he had called them useless and not good enough.

He may have more luck at a club with better resources down here.

PROS

He got Cambridge promoted from here
He won the tinpot trophy and we might be looking for a run in that this year
He had a few seasons with Luton in the play offs

CONS

He got Cambridge promoted in about the year 1776
My Nan's disabled budgie could've got Luton in the play offs every season
He's seemed to pursue a career away from football in recent centuries, preferring Rugby Football Union
As he has morphed into T-Rex form over recent millennia, I'm wondering if the British museum might poach him off us so I don't think we'll hold on to him for long.

A 4-0 defeat in rugby is a very tight game, got beat by two conversions. That's a bit controversial as no tries were scored so he has a right to feel hard done by.

Oh you comb over boys are too salty...
Not seen much good football played by Wrexham, but Hartlepool and Halifax should keep combing over, as ive only seen evidence from them of a hardcore non league football mentality. Perhaps a good old days thread, where the struggling clubs could suffocate football by election is in order... maybe it should be re implemented?
thoughts? stuck with us forever playing rugby?
At least you only score two points for a hoof over the bar, we score 3.

That said, you should do better than Money, he came here as a local then shirked due to time pressure (maybe due to no full time long contract) but you should get Mark Yates!

just ask for a catheter mate, go back to sleep and stop calling for the nurse.
She may wake you up with news that the brotherhood are all restored by election to the Football league before you pop off.

I heard he fell out with Solihull Motors when he demanded a standard sized pitch. They said they’d never heard such blasphemy, so he had to go.

Well it's union you lot play, not league, so I suppose you'd know all about that then.

I don't think Money's a bad shout for Hartlepool.

No doubt he'll leave in a couple of years having fallen out with the fans, just like at Cambridge and Luton!

Laker will be able to give more recent thoughts on him,

A couple of years, now that would be a first for Pools.

I was underwhelmed but gotta give him a chance, we've tried new and old, winners and losers and they've all end up sacked, he has a decent win rate with clubs, minus a 26 day spell at Solihull, beat us to the League 2 title years ago with Walsall, won the piss pot trophy and got Cambridge up, hopefully he still has the same drive and can do something with us.

I'm coming round to it a bit, at least it's not Lee Clark and that's all that matters. Not exactly my first choice but I had a feeling that having to work with the existing coaching staff would narrow the choice down a bit.

Lots of Walsall, Cambridge, Luton mob on twitter saying good things but he's a miserable git and will fall out with the fans at some point.

I do trust Hignett & co have done a decent interview so we have to get behind it.

Not surprising.

Don't know Mark Maguire's role at Hartlepool exactly but he was keen to bring in Money here before we appointed Bignot instead. One thing for sure was that he didn't organise good interviews, pissed off a few candidates apparently.

He's the CEO, mainly focusing on the commercial side. The only exposure I've had to him is his spiel on the club's podcasts and he's quite open and honest on them, comes across well. I am aware of his history though so who knows but I'm generally positive about the club's present ownership (could change in time)

I knew Maguire personally. He came across well, but because we had a totally inept board at the time he took over the entire running of the club including extending McCarthy's contract (which nearly killed us). Beware of wolves dressed in sheep's clothing.

I think Money is a busted flush now to be honest, he completely lost the plot in the last 9 months with us and we held onto him through sentiment for too long. Having said that, he will at least weed out the wasters in your squad as he won't tolerate anyone taking the piss, so I'd expect a lot of transfer activity early on...

Won't be pretty either way but he may kick you into shape. As said, it's better than Lee Clark....

You didn't tell us he was psychic as well!

Sir Richard Money will make Pools a top 5 side if given time (a year +) though it probably won't be this season. There, I've said it.

Secondly, Sir Dickie did not fall out with the U's fans, he only did that at Luton. However, every manager that Lutn had during their NL years stood a very good chance of doing exactly that with their fans always going on about how they were a big club and how they should be playing the likes of Leeds,Forest and Wednesday instead of part time NL sides. Well, not all Hatters fans but most, and whether they right or wrong to feel that way is another debate. All I'll say is I believe he could've got them up if they had given him more time, but apparently that was out of the question after a particular incident at Tamworth.

He was the one who delivered league footy to us, where others before him had failed. The problem was that our results during that promotion season almost mirrored those achieved by York when they had won promotion, ie. loads of 1-0 wins, and consequently some U's fans felt that they weren't entertained. It's a fact that DD's way was to keep it tight at the back and then win games by just the one goal, but that didn't bother me at all, a win's a win after all and I knew we were going to get the win as soon as we scored as our back line that season was brilliant.

I won't comment on what really led to his getting the sack as I've heard quite contrasting versions of what actually happened and I'm not sure which one is the truth. All I'm sure of is that the BOD said something along the lines of 'the squad is under performing'. They said the same thing when Derry the Clown was fired, and also the other week when Dunne got the boot. Hmmmm.......

PS - Soz for the long post! xxxxx

Was the game at Newport Gwent Dragons too physical? were they too Welsh? Did they park the bus? What form of blasphemy against football occurred tonight?
Anyway I jest, I do sympathize with Wrexham in particular (should be in the league) and have suffered terrible ill fate. Orient and Hartlepool also, but I cant really buy Halifax... sorry guys football changes.
As Ive said before, everyone was nice to use a plucky little losers, but a few good months and the bizarre jealous taunts come out. Its not our fault things are going well, and i dont, for a second, expect a continuous upward trajectory, but let us enjoy it.
After all if you were all that good you would be miles ahead of us on your own merit.

Think my point was, originally, why do these brotherhood (i cringe to even quote it) clubs not hire Mark Yates?

Yates had a win rate of 0% at his last club, I'm afraid he'll have to go back to another historical tinpotter and work his magic in front of 800 fans before a proper club takes a chance on him.
