Nah, Wenger leaving Arsenal would be the end of his managerial career in England.

I'm only thinking of Everton. Listen to Abertawe, Big Sam is a quality manager with much to offer a team of ambition. :hypo:

More press rumours: Kenwright, Allardyce and Rooney could all go.

Great!

Kenwright's days were numbered as soon as soon as Moshiri arrived so that would come as no surprise. Rooney has been a failed experiment that was never going to work. And Allardyce was always leaving at the end of the season anyway.

No surprise re Rooney. A bad idea from day one based more on sentiment than any football quality he was ever likely to bring.

They need shot of Allardyce early to allow any new manager time to make changes and settle in. They wait too long, the post become less and less appealing and they will already struggle to get someone with winning experience.

Looks like Allardyce has gone early. Though I'm not sure about Silva, would prefer someone who has actually won something!

That can't be true. Abertawe told us that Big Sam would be manager next season and that you'd challenge for top 6?

Terrible decision - they will live to regret this. Everton fans are truly pathetic.

He took a team that looked in genuine trouble of relegation to 8th. He didn't, results wise, fail.

Absolutely. He did what he was brought in to do, namely steady them after Unsworth's desperate short tenure and get a middtable finish. Unfortunately, he did it playing football that made Mourinho look adventurous.

His primary issue was caused by Everton's improved ambition. Since Moshiri arrived firefighting managers like Allardyce were never going to be seen as a long term prospect. Actually, Allardyce wouldn't have even been seen as a short term one if it weren't for them panicking into appointing him after shitting the prospect of Unsworth leading them into a relegation fight.

Sam was never going to see beyond this campaign. They could end up regretting it because whoever they bring in could be a failure, where as Allardyce would again lead them to another uninspiring middtable finish playing shit football. But both the Everton fans and owners want more these days.

He led them to 8th mate. I've no doubt had he overseen the summer transfer activity - the luxury of a full pre season to prepare they'd have beaten Burnley to 7th and may have even challenged Arsenal. That is their equivalent of winning the title.

Everton fans want someone who'll get them playing exquisite football and finishing top 5 - they're deluded. They should know their place - Sam was a perfect fit for them. This is the club of Joe Royle, Walter Smith & David Moyes so it's not like you can say fair enough the fans are conditioned to a certain degree of finesse - "shit" football is their domain.

Their best shot is tempting Rafa. He's the only realistic upgrade on Sam they can hope to attract. They'll probably boo him too when they don't score 5 a game and fail to break 6th position. Everton fans have hounded every manager they've had in my lifetime. They're the real problem. Delusional & bitter.

I don't think either of you are wrong (though your choice of words really doesn't help your case, Abertawe) but what Pagnell is getting at, and which I agree with, is that Allardyce wasn't ever going to get them any further than this -- which indeed is shit football and some way off 6th (Arsenal have underperformed this season).

I personally won't agree or disagree with the sacking until they've come up with their replacement, but in my opinion they should've held on to Allardyce until the perfect replacement comes along, like us with Klopp. Allardyce was a safe bet for another top 10 finish. The argument against it, of course, is that Allardyce would likely buy players not especially appealing to another, more entertaining manager.

When I say you were wrong I was referring to your continued claim that he would be with them next season, when it was clear from day one with the length of the contact that it was a firefighting exercise until the end of the season. This was further backed up by the way he got the job, ie there was bugger all else to appoint to stop the damage Unsworth was doing at the time.

As that superb contribution from Gassy shows Sam was only one point off Arsenal. I read & understood Pagnell's point of view but 6th (let's call it 7th if Arsenal improve after Wenger) really is the limit of their capability if we're being realistic.

As you alluded to earlier he took them from relegation fodder (probably weren't ever gonna go down but they were playing awful & suffering awful results) and got them 8th. Sam doing a resurrection job is going to follow a shit football script - that's just the way he works in the short term. When you say he wasn't going to get them further, in terms of finishing 7/8th probably not but then what realistic name would? Regarding the subjective notion of shit football I think it's unfair to say he couldn't have improved on that. He will always be a results first man but he has produced entertaining football, he has.

If you want a manager who'll ensure you 7/8th as a minimum - with the possibility of taking advantage of a poor season from one of the big boys from time to time, he's your man. I find it staggering Everton have sacked someone like that.
