To add to my point before, it's just nice to be playing against proper clubs week in week out (this weekend and the weekend before aside). It's far more fun now than it was in non-league. Nothing worse than going to an away match and the locals in the pub asking you if there's a match on.

For us, it's been far too long.
15 years in the wilderness, wasn't it? For us it was 9 but we had the glory of five promotions from the deep darkest depths of non-league.

Crewe seemed to sit off us for long periods of the game instead of going for the kill, which was confusing especially when up against an abysmal Tranmere side serving up one of our worst first half performances of the season (and that's saying something). Second half we did at least carve out a few chances but Saunders managed to miss from two yards not once but twice (one flagged offside to spare his blushes, but neither worthy of an eight year old, let alone a professional footballer). Both red cards were daft and the only Rovers players who can walk away from that with any degree of pride in their performance were Jennings (who had a shocker first half but had a great second half) and Apter when he came on.

Crewe were unspectacular and that's all they needed to be, they were years better than us. Can't see us getting a single point away if we continue to be this open, this inept at defending and can't pass a football five yards in the middle of the pitch without putting it out for a throw every third pass.
Not to twist the knife in, but is Nige the answer? His power of positivity BS would really grate on me.

Plus, you really look like you're going to be in a relegation battle. No quality in so many spots, too open at the back, not enough firepower or creativity upfront. It's a bit grim.

Telford Dragon, I think. I remember you posting back on them boards along with Sid (lincoln fan) - sound lad.
Ah yeah, I remember you! I actually met Sid at a match once. Bit of an interesting read here about him...

I don't think leaving the area is a red card offence...
Haha yeah that didn't make sense, I meant while outside the area.

We've just come up from non-league, I'd say anything below play-offs is a failure but the gap between this league and the one below is massive.

Personally, I believe we'll go up automatically but I wouldn't say it's the outright expectation here. We just expect, as fans, to give it a good go
All I'm really thinking about in the back of my mind is that I don't think we will go down this season now, a handful more wins and we will be fine. Can't help but think that way.

It is not a disaster if we don't go up this season and the fans aren't demanding it like last season, but the way it's going there's no reason we can't be in the top 3 at the end.

He is still going strong would you believe, still an ever present. Not changed one bit though, eithout being harsh, for his own health, needs to be looking aftet himself!

I don't think that's harsh really mate, he's a big lad who gets on it every weekend from my knowledge. You can sort of get away with that in your 20s but not so much when you're pushing 40. Heart of gold though, the Stevenage bra stunt was pure class and is probably the only instance of any Grimsby/Lincoln love in over the last few decades. Didn't get enough praise at our end that.

On reflection we didn't deserve to lose yesterday. However that's football. The league is very tight and competitive which is great. I think we have a decent tilt at the playoffs but need to keep al hamadi playing. No coincidence the two games we have lost have been on international weekends when he is away. Next one is when we play MK. Pias poor timing.

You’d think Notts will be getting a violent conduct charge in the week for the elbow. Shocking challenge and to do it on a televised game was just plain stupid. how the referee didn’t give any card speaks volumes for how bad the referees are at this level.

The Wrexham fans are on the fish but Challinor's decision to move from L2 Hartlepool to NL Stockport for more money, closer to home, better future prospects, ambition, managing in front of bigger crowds etc still looks a complete masterstroke less than 2 years on.

The two clubs have gone in complete different directions the day he made that call. Not all down to him. As said, behind the scenes here is much more promising than Hartlepool at that moment and certainly at this moment. But he's a good manager and pretty smart I think. If he leaves us, it'll be for a proper gig. As WNM says, he's already turned down approaches from Barnsley this summer and Charlton in August.

It made me chuckle that the Hartlepool fans were moaning that Challinor moving to Stockport was a 'sideways' step. It was obvious that Stockport were on their way up and Hartlepool, blatantly weren't. Had Challinor stayed Hartlepool probably wouldn't be non-league at the moment but I doubt they would have had sufficient resources to do what Stockport are doing this season.

Obviously it's all captain hindsight territory but for me his move was a step up.

A massive step up. Stockport with a little ground Investment could compete at upper league 1 lower champ yo yo position like the Posh

Hartlepool fans reacted like the passionate fans they are tbf, DC had just got them into L2 and they'd had a really steady first few months whilst we were flailing in NL with a good squad but a clueless academy manager. I can see why they were pissed off and couldn't see the wood from the trees at that time.

Challinor then went on an amazing run from day one here, we won the league, Hartlepool stagnated not helped by their owner who's still lingering around but wants to sell. We beat them 5-0 on his first return there last December, Hartepool fans started the day giving DC stick, I think when we were about 3-0 up at half time the penny dropped and I think by the end he got a polite applause due to a mix of their fans realising why he'd left and appreciation for the job he'd actually done there. We narrowly missed out on back to back promotions and Hartlepool went down.

I'm not rubbing salt in Hartlepool wounds, things can change very quickly in football, they need to get rid of their shit owner and I want them back in the FL. I think John Askey could bring them back with the right backing.

But Challinor made the right call and I think 99% of their fans know that now. He is on more money and is closer to his home in Chester too.

Yes very true. When Garner left us to go to Charlton for example a few of our fans didn't necessarily see it as a step up, whereas for me it was blatant. I think as you say, when your passionate about your club you defend it even when it sometimes defies logic.

Anyway as for us, yesterday was good to get over the last 2 defeats and whilst we were definitely not at our best, a solid 2-0 win over Newport sets us up nicely for the next 2 Saturdays which are away - Salford and Franchise.

A concern that you look so lost without him no? Shouldn't be the case with 1 player, no matter how good he is?

Yeah totally. We fell.short in summer and missed out of another striker. We are top.heavy with midfielders and short of options up top. If we want to stay the course this season we need a striker in Jan.

Routine win yesterday. Tranmere ill-disciplined, rudderless, unorganised, toothless and far too open. That's a complete recipe for relegation. Didn't have to be anywhere near our best. Just competent. I'm sick of letting poor sides off the hook though and really want to wallop one like we did FGR though. Colchester were open at the back and there for the taking and we were lucky to escape that with a win. Some of our fans got very much carried away calling Colchester a potential playoff side because they had a bit of pace and could pass a ball but they were just as toothless and open too. FGR were the worst side I've seen us play this season. I'm yet to see Sutton play us this season but if they're worse than those three then the relegation battle is going to be a straight shootout between those four teams.

Mad how washed up Adkins is. 5 years ago I went Hull vs Preston when he managed the Tigers and he got Hull playing lovely football and, if they weren't wasteful, could have had 7 or 8 vs Preston that day. He looked like a Championship calibre manager but any talent he had in his early days at Scunthorpe and Southampton seems to have long gone now.

Got to be better against the better sides. But we won missing two of our key defenders, with a change in formation and two set-piece goals not to be sniffed at too. Jack Powell excellent and Chris Long is a class above this level too. Crawley will be a tougher contest next week but two away games there and Harrogate very much winnable before FA Cup weekend. Our 14 match unbeaten run on the line at home vs in-form Stockport a week on Tuesday is another thing and I'd take a point from that game now if offered.

We've played 10 of them and will have played 11 this time next week. Obviously we're in 18th and looking dogshit though so that doesn't mean a lot. Makes your start all the more impressive. It's definitely time to declare this season YEAR OF THE STAG II. Get your avatars out again lads.

And now on the verge of getting the chop at Colchester.

Can't help but thinking Garner thinks he's a better manager than he is. Got us to the play offs and then saw the bright lights rather than building what he had begun. It's fast become 3 failed jobs now and his stock has fallen a lot.

Sounds as disappointing as it looked on IFollow. Though in an attacking sense we hit the woodwork twice and had one cleared off the line, defensively shambolic.

Having viewed it again did think Davies was unfortunate with his second yellow, slipped while running and crashed into the Crewe player rather than anything deliberate. Not that it would have made any difference.

He certainly did at our place. I'm not sure what stock he ever had to be fair. Along with Buckle probably the two biggest ever failures at our club. And the stupid thing is they both thought they were doing fantastic jobs.

Wrong again its the north stand being opened to stags fans when the small fry visit us

We are definitely joining the four stand crew, it’s in the works.

Hopefully the North Stand thing works, adds another 600 seats for the home capacity.
